Chapter V: First Exorcism

Naomi

Ivelisse fainted soon after the call was made. She remained unresponsive for most of the day. She remains in her bed for the exorcism. Lucas did return home today, having a sprained arm and a concussion. He's considered lucky. Markus would cause mighty damage the next time he pisses him off.

The night rolled by dreadfully, going into freezing temperatures. Blathnaid closed off the portal in the library and the portals we so far detected. It's raining outside. We can hear it against the window, threatening to come in. Silence rolls throughout the house as the coven securely ties Ivelisse to her bed with restraints. Ivelisse looks scared as hell.

"W'at are ya guys doin' to me?" She asks with tears going down her cheeks, petrified.

"Easy, Ive, we are trying to help you," Ella reassures.

"W'y are you tyin' me? I won't 'urt ya, I promise."

"We know you won't," Ella says, already starting to feel hurt by this, "But someone else will."

The whole coven is inside of Ivelisse's room, along with us. I feel Ivelisse's energy. She feels childish, sweet, naive, and in danger. I focus on her energy. I will alert her father if the energy changes. Like the time during Megan's possession, her energy was way off once Markus possessed her and was about to take over. Some possessed people do get off early warning signs, such as their aura feeling off than usual. That includes spirit attachment.

The exorcism begins. Father reads from the text, calling the Heavens to protect this woman from the evil lurking inside of her. Everyone is silently praying for their Gods to also help her as well. Markus and I look at each other intently.

Minutes slowly pass by. Ivelisse becomes more unstable by the minute. She shakes and silently cries in pure fear. She is disoriented, lost, and frightened. She doesn't even try to break through the restraints, knowing that we will hold her down. She probably thinks we are out for blood, but we're not. She only sees herself passing out, waking up in a different area of the house, followed by fainting again.

She sniffles a bit. The coven holds themselves from gently wiping her tears off. At any moment, her personality will be replaced by an uncontrolled menace. Thus far, no activity. Father's motions with the cross and holy water. Ivelisse doesn't cry out in pain or a burning feeling. She trembles, mindly begging this to end.

Her heart rate suddenly plummets, along with her energy. Her aura diminishes. Ivelisse faints, lying still on her own bed, looking lifeless. Her energy is replaced by something sinister, evil, along with multiple energies that are not her own.

"Father," I notify him, the attention in the room draws on me, "It's happening."

Everyone backs away, except father, Markus, and I. We all know the beings inside of her are taking over.

An unsettling aura pressures the whole room while her aura turns black with blue spots that disappear and reappear from the darkness. The heart of the abyss with creatures surrounds us invisibly. The pressure is so excessive that some of us have a hard time remaining to stand. I see the coven tremble and wobble. It's incapacitating!

Ivelisse wakes up with a grin. The room splashes in total darkness, making some of us scream. Ella tells us to not panic. The light returns quickly as it falls, but father notices that the text, the crucifix, and his supplies vanished without a trace. The abyss swallowed it whole.

"For once, we are working together," Ivelisse mumbles to herself in a grueling tone. The voice sounds like her own, but more menacing. She looks directly at Ella.

"Hello, High Priestess Ella Sovegneir," she says

"High Priestess?" My dad looks at Ella in confusion and distraught. Uh-Oh.

"Still trying to keep a coven alive? Seems you aren't family anymore as you put it off to Father McKelsey," Ivelisse goes on. My dad's confusion turns into a dose of anger.

Ivelisse goes to Rick next. "Hello, High Priest Rick Narone, having fun on your own after you disown your son?"

"He picked a path of drugs and left his children for that. If he was gonna do that, he is no longer my son," Rick defends himself.

"The old Earthling saying is that "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

"At least, I've turned my life around," I hear Rick whisper to himself faintly while Ivelisse moves on to the next victim: Dominique.

"Hola, Dominique Soto, guilty of being maldita to the loss of children?"

"Ellas murieron enfermas!" Dominique replies, her Spanish accent becomes thicker as she speaks.

"Bueno," Ivelisse's grin goes wider as she speaks harshly, "You don't deserve to have children anyway."

Okay, that was pretty damn rude. She lost her children due to sickness and she is obviously hurt by their loss, but this doofus rubbed it the wrong way really makes me want to smack them in the face so hard that they'll be ripped out of Ivelisse. I glance towards Dominique as she tries not to cry.

"Dickas- I mean Lucas Izer," Ivelisse snaps her head towards Lucas with a sneer, "You're not worthy to be in the Children of the Full Moon coven. You talk shit behind everyone's backs. You talk about how Ella and Rick suck at being high priests to Jonas. You talked about how disgraceful Dominique is for being mixed race. Is it because her parents are French and Colombian? Is it because her father Caucasian while her mother is Latina? Do I even have to mention that you were planning to kill Ivelisse yesterday? You can't kill me! You'll never will!"

"I did no such thing," Lucas argues as everyone glares at him next.

"I've heard you," Markus comes in.

"You vegetable!" He disdains.

"Lucas!" Dominique and Ella yell at him,

"And Blathnaid O'Broin," Ivelisse's voice became slightly plural. She chuckles slightly, "Great Grand-Daughter of The Witch Of Ire, still trying to be her? Why don't you branch off a little bit?" Blathnaid gives Ivelisse the silent treatment, "And do you think what you said about Markus was an actual crush?"

I have never heard Blathnaid talking about that to me before and what the flimsball did she just say? No. No. No!

At the same time, the coven is rallying against Lucas. They go on, saying he is a terrible person. I guess people like him are the reasons to keep opinions and reasons to yourself. The shadows all around us continue laughing. Well, I can't see them in the darkness. Lucas is between the threshold of violence and screaming.

"Father Phil McKelsey," she hisses in a reptilian voice, smiling like a mad man. My lips curl in anticipation and apprehension. Each moment that she intentionally passes by in silence makes me more anxious about what she is about to say.

"You were sick of your wife and daughter. Once you saw Naomi was old enough to help herself, you made yourself busy! Even when her mother died, you still neglected her!"

"Father," I hurtly blurt out while glancing towards my father. One side of me pleads for what she says is not true. I thought his job was keeping him away from us, but not the opposite. I never thought my father didn't care about me.

"Don't listen, Naomi," father cries out to me defensively, "Don't give in to the evil! I still love you. If I was sick of you, I would've divorced and left, but I didn't. Why would I dare do that?"

Ivelisse cruelly laughs.

Oh please, you left too many times in my life. You may haven't divorced, but you were absent. You are in more of my life now, but where were you when I needed you most?

"Oh, hush, God-lover, Naomi Lorraine McKelsey killed your wife, her own mother! You might've seen her die from a heart attack, but we see the truth," Ivelisse turns the tables and spills my absolute guilt. He shoots a deadly glare at me. He stares at me for a long moment. The pressure in me is rising, waiting for him to explode and expecting the worst.

Oh boy, looks like we are going to have a heart-to-heart and heavy conversation after this crap is over. He's not going to look at me the same way after this. He only saw my mom having a heart attack while I saw my angry energy hitting her. I didn't want that to happen! I still regret killing her! I miss my mom when she was alive! Does he even see her ghost?!

"Will you shut up?!" Lucas screams at the coven.

"No, you!" Ivelisse fires back in a very taunting way while she snaps back towards him. She finally turns to Markus and grimly says, but quieter like she wants him to be the only one to hear, "Your wrath isn't so veiled to us. You killed more innocent people than those that made your life a living hell. Your paralyzation is well des-"

Lucas finally snaps, screaming uncontrollably. The coven holds him back from charging at Ivelisse, but to no avail. He breaks free and rushes towards her. He puts her into a chokehold while bashing her head against the wall. Ivelisse laughs wickedly, fueling more of his rage. She continues laughing even when her face is all bloody.

"Lucas, stop! This is what they want!" I yell out in my warning voice. He ignores me.

The energy within Ivelisse intensifies erratically. Knowing something is about to happen, I take a step back.

The abyss returns, sucking all light and energy. It remains dark for a long moment. The screams stop and our sight returns. The poor girl's energy is back to normal, but more broken inside. She cries frantically. Her voice is hoarse from being inside of Lucas's chokehold. Lucas is on the floor, reduced into a whimpering puppy. He must've gotten something so terrifying to turn him into a baby. A big man baby that possibly soiled his pants.

Out of sympathy, Rick walks towards Ivelisse and unties her. He picks her up and walks out of the room. I am sure he is taking her to the first aid room to help treat the beating. As if it wasn't enough, Dominique marches to Lucas, pulls his bleak body up, and smacks him. Hard. We don't stop her.

"You fool!" She seethes, "Don't you have any idea what you've done?!"

"Didn't you hear, Ive?" He yells back before pointing at me. "She's a murderer. She killed her damn mom, yet you're firing at me. You are a bunch of twats!"

"It was an accident," I remorsefully state as I watch my father's expressions break down. He's hurt, angry, and torn with grief all with the same one.

The exorcism has adjourned unsuccessfully. We find my dad's holy book and equipment upstairs in the attic. We investigate the house to see if anything was damaged during the exorcism.

Then, we see my father packing up and getting his coat on.

"Father McKelsey, are you okay?" Ella asks him.

"Okay?" He replies back, "No."

"I still have faith in you!"

Little does she know.

"You lied to me," he says with a slight growl.

"I apologize," she explains, "We were desperate for help! We were afraid of how you would treat us if you did."

"You got Markus and Naomi," he remarks to her coldly, "They'll help you." He turns to the door.

"Leaving me here?" I say. He ignores me. I call out to him, "Dad!" I plea as I rush to him, "Dad please!"

"Get out of my sight," he barks, causing me to jump.

"It was an accident! I couldn't control my abilities yet! I'm very sorry for killing her. She has forgiven me, father! Please!" I press on, "Why can't you?"

He grabs his coat and opens the door. With skepticism in his voice, he says, "How can she when she is dead? Are you sure it was her? I have never seen it."

"Have you ever seen her ghost when you were home, father?! Have you ever seen her ghost after a- the volcanic eruption? She was right there!" I retort, wanting him to listen.

"No," he states. He starts to walk out, "You're just as bad as Markus."

Upset, I yell, "You jerk! You left us behind! Now you leave my testimony-"

He shuts the door. My own father walks out without a care. He doesn't care about my side of my story. He stayed out for most of my life when I was a child and hearing Ivelisse bring his true emotions into light screws me over. I will be lucky if he ever lets me in the house again. He wants to run away from his duties in the family, then he can stay away for all he wants. He must have still cared because he still came back or he did that to not remain suspicious. All the household duties all fell onto mom and I. Mostly, me. I take off my jacket and throw it as hard as I can.

"Nao?" I hear Blathnaid from the stairwell. I don't acknowledge her as I try to fight back the tears, keeping my eyes closed.

"Nao!" She calls out again.

I turn to her, showing her my tear-stained face. Everyone except Lucas is watching me. They see my aura dark red, disorder radiating from it. I stare at them for some period of time before walking away, heading into the basement of the home.

I want to be left alone for a little while. I don't feel alone in the basement because, you know? It's a basement. There are possibly more portals in the house from Ivelisse, so I'm sure I'm being watched down here by an entity.

I sit on the steps, contemplating life and trying to calm down.

"Pretty aura," I hear a voice echoing from the dark, making me wince towards the source. The darkness fades away, showing one of the coven members: Aelen. He has Greek features with blonde hair in soft brown eyes.

"Weren't you upstairs?" I ask.

He chuckles softly and rolls his eyes. "I can be anywhere, Nao."

Aelen gets closer to me, but not too close to make me feel uncomfortable. I remember that Ivelisse mentions that he is not the human that everyone thought he was.

"You're not human...either?" I ask, slightly awkward, trying not to offend him.

He nods. "I already knew you and Markus weren't human the moment you walked in the door."

"We were once human, but Markus is more human than I. A dark angel removed his powers."

"The Fallen Seraphim, also known as the Dark Angel to you. I know what being you're talking about," he smirks like he knows his stuff. "The Seraphim believe that everyone can receive redemption even if it's extreme in humans' standards. He took 7/8th of it and placed it in an invisible lock safe. Those powers are dormant and can be reactivated if he proves to the Dark Angel that he's changed."

"Good to hear," I comment with mild sarcasm.

"We don't bother the Seraphim and he's a chill guy, anyway."

"What are you?" I ask, "If you don't mind me asking."

"Daemon."

"Oh...Did the exorcism burn you or something?"

"No," he laughs, "I'm not a demon. I'm between God and Mortal."

"You can just say demi-god," I remark sarcastically.

"I'm more than that."

Haughty or honest? Both? He doesn't appear cocky about it though. There's a difference between boasting and arrogance.

I wipe my eyes with my hands and say, "Tonight was a disaster."

"I agree," his voice goes solemnly, "The beings inside Ivelisse are not demons, but much stronger. They could be stronger than all three of us, but we might have a fighting chance."

"Good to hear," I mumble, "I feel there's one more portal around here."

"I can sense them too, but I'm forbidden to close them," he informs, "Blathnaid can do that if found."

"We'll do that right away then, but not now. We need a breather."

"Yeah, it's been a stressful night," Aelen agrees again. He smirks at me. "How about some drinks?"

"Will see, but I want to be left alone."

"As you wish," Aelen tells me before heading to the exit, "But first," he turns the light on, "Keep the light on until you leave."
