Avis had very wild hair and she still wasn't exactly sure when she decided it was far too hard to manage, or when she decided she didn't find it so pretty. But nevertheless she always found ways to hide it, whether it be by pulling it up into neat-but-not-so-neat buns or wearing jewelry or outfits so bright that it distracted people from what sat upon her head.

"It's a nice town, huh?" Her mother appeared into the bathroom mirror, her reflection causing her to look older....tired. Avis glanced at her mother before shrugging and messing with her hair.

"Avs, I wish you wouldn't play so much with it." Avis only glanced at her mother who sighed and continued, "You have magnificent hair."

Avis wished she could explain to her mother that she was white and that she didn't understand but instead she chose to focus on her mother's word choice.

"magnificent?" She questioned. Why not beautiful, pretty, normal.

"Yes, love, it is magnificent, I wish you could see that."

Lillian. Robert's voice echoed of the walls, and it soon sounded as if he had called her mother's name multiple times rather than once.

Her mother blushed before excusing herself. Avis never understood how someone could be married for so long and still blush at the sound of their husband calling their names. But she did not question it. Not because Avis was not one to question things but because Avis understood some things ought not to be questioned.

Instead she continued to gape at her hair before running (or attempting to) both hands through it.

magnificent
