City Strolls
Phil POV
I stood by Dan as I pushed my baby's stroller. He had his black jeans on and a black and white t-shirt. I cooed at my daughter who sat in front of me. Her big beautiful eyes reminded me of mine when I was a baby. They shimmered in the sunlight the way mine did. Light. Maybe she'll take after me and her first word will be light. Maybe she'll grow up an amazing, creative person who finds a home for herself and takes risks to make her dreams come true. Maybe she'll live with her best friend and have her own adventures worth of story books. Maybe.
I stared at her once more and I noticed her nose was definitely her mothers, and so was her hair color. She was her own little person. She's going to have a million of her own stories to tell. She will get the best parts of both of us.
Honestly what do I say when she asks about her mom. I barely know her mother, and now her mother is off with some random guy. What do I say to Eriana on mother's day? She's going to realize eventually that she has a mom. What happens then?
"You alright?" Dan asked looking at me just studying my daughters features and future.
"What do I say to her when she asks who her mommas is?" I asked softly.
Dan stopped me and looked in my eyes.
"Phil, the world can take a million turns before you reach that point. We'll figure it out then. Besides many kids have parents that are single parents or gay parents or lesbian parents even gender fluid parents. She will have questions, but shes is coming into a different world. One where not all families have a mom and dad, and that its ok. She'll be fine." Dan said. His words rang in my head, as I knew they were true. He's right. She is being born into a world where there are so many different types of families. Maybe it will all be ok.
We walked down the street and the city lights had Eriana in absolute wonder. The colors of all the neon signs just fascinated her. Dan and I continued to joke and laugh as we walked down the streets. Some old people turned and stared at these two six feet men and a baby girl, but most just went along with their business. I didn't feel totally strange.
"Should we get some Starbucks? I mean you were up all night." Dan asked. I smiled at him. Eriana continued to coo at the headlights of cars and the street signs.
"Yeah that sounds wonderful." I said. There was a Starbucks just down the street. Eriana could try some of the whipped cream...it would be perfect. Plus I need the caffeine.
We made our way down to the Starbucks and got our drinks. Considering it is June, we didn't opt to get hot drinks, we got cold ones instead. I got a Frappuccino and Dan got just an Iced Latte. We stayed in the store for a minute and I bent down and gave Eriana a taste of the whipped cream. She giggled with excitement. That is definitely the first taste of anything sugary like that, so it was no surprise that she liked it. Just a taste of it...she doesn't need a lot.
Dan smiled and took some photos of her smiling while tasting the whipped cream.
"You two are adorable." He said smiling.
I couldn't stop smiling. Its absolutely perfect. I picked up Eriana as I knew she would need a diaper change by now.
"I'm going to go change her. See if you can get some warm water for her bottle. She doesn't need it yet, but real soon she'll be ready for it." I said. Dan nodded in agreement.
I went and changed Erianas diaper, and I came back to Dan who had already made the bottle and had everything ready to go.
"Wow, you did really well...its nice having extra hands." I said. Dan smiled and kissed Erianas forehead.
"You're an amazing Dad Phil. I'm here to support you." Dan replied.
We made our way out of Starbucks, Eriana now back in the stroller. It was the hottest part of the day, so I didn't really want to be outside.
"Should we rent a movie and head back. Its only supposed to get even hotter and I'm already sweating." Dan said. I laughed and nodded in agreement. He wasn't wrong. My forehead was sweating already and not to mention I had a baby I needed to keep cool.
We hailed a taxi to go to the nearest store, and went to pick up a movie. We settled upon an avengers movie as that is always a good movie to watch.
We stood on the curb as Dan decided to get an Uber this time, and I stared at my angel, who was falling asleep.
Today was perfect...she is perfect. I hope I am perfect enough for her...
