We Are Not Helium
When artistic hands are forced to dance atop keyboard and mouse,
Typing in line upon line of PHP and CSS and basic C,
Don't expect them to be driven by pure greed.
Don't expect them to be driven by pure passion.
Don't expect them to be driven by...you.
You and I, we may be jolly, good friends,
Began with "Once Upon A Time", but who knows about the end?
I swore, at first, that you and I were inseparable, invincible,
An incomprehensible, terrible force of nature ready
To take the world by its horns and propel us
To the future of "US";
You and I.
But here we are, latched onto balloons too light to carry the both of us,
And though we strip ourselves constantly of all our
Responsibilities, mobility, odd abilities,
Cut away all other ties with friendships irrelevant to our own,
Our friendship is heavy with sin.
Because I'll tell you to shut the fuck up,
But you keep fucking me up
Until I forget that I have a mouth
And I tire to fly because
There are still beautiful, beautiful things to discover on the Earth that you
Are so bent on leaving.
Like the smile of my mother as she serves me a plate of her 'Char Kuey Teow',
Like the happy steps of my cat, chanting out his happy meows,
Like the Sushi King my girlfriend and I frequent at least once in two weeks,
Like your programming fingers, swift, fully able, sleek.
I am not ready,
And I do not want to embrace this change you're forcing me into.
Let these artistic hands waver in this art that
You may not understand and heck, even I can't at times but
This is Danny.
Let you do you, and let me be me.
We are not helium.
A/N: If anyone is interested, I actually performed this yesterday for an event, haha. So, if you wanna take a look at that, the link will be up on my profile. :)
