Chapter Twenty-Seven: Calotte
A soulmate usually comes one in your life to shake things up, show you true love and stand up to you in ways no one else ever has. They adore you yet challenge you to your fullest potential. A soulmate relationship isn't only peachy and cream. It's roses and thorns.
Chapter Twenty-Seven: Calotte.
After a really long, hot bath, Char strolled out of the bathroom, fully clothed, with less intention of killing Daniel. After that stunt he pulled minutes ago, there was no way she was going to let him get away with it. Up to this moment, she still couldn't believe he'd used her weakness against her.
Her freaking, God forsaken, over the roof, hormones.
She seriously needed to get done with this virginity shit. Fast.
She moved to her bedside table and grabbed her phone. Only Cat could calm her down. She dialled the number and waited, signing in relief when Cat picked.
“What?!” moving the phone away from her ear, she winced when she heard Cat's loud shout.
“Would you calm down, woman?” she said into the phone when her ears had recovered.
“Char? Oh my God Char, I'm sorry. I picked without looking at the ID.” Cat said with a calmer voice.
“It's okay. What's got your panties in a twist?”
“I got called in today.” Cat sighed.
“And..?” Char trailed off. She didn't get why Cat was so worked up about getting called in.
“It's Sunday for fuck's sake!” Cat yelled.
“Oh,” She'd gone running yesterday, Saturday. And after Saturday was.... Sunday. Oh.
“Oh’s right. I just can't believe it. I fucking get called in on a Sunday. A Sunday! I'm supposed to be in bed with Zach right now making sweet love. Not spending the entire day working on a dumbass case.” Char was ninety percent sure she heard bone-cracking sound somewhere in between all that rant. Was she hurting someone?
“Sorry about that babe. I just wanted to know how you're doing.” As soon as the words left her mouth, Char began to regret it. She shouldn't have asked that.
“I'm not fine. I don't want to fucking spend my day in the hell hole surrounded by stupid people who don't have lives.” There was a pause. “Yes! You heard me! Fuck off!”
She really shouldn't have asked that.
Maybe now was not really the time to talk about Daniel and his shenanigans.
“When does it end? Your shift.” Char asked, moving to sit on the bed.
“In about thirty minutes.” Cat sighed loudly. “Let's hope I don't break the necks of all these motherfuckers by then.” Char laughed. “Yes! I said it again, sue me!” Cat shouted again to who, Char was guessing, was another colleague.
“Remember what I said. Bigger person.” Char smiled. She had no doubt that Cat could break necks of she tried to. It was one of the many things she loved about her. She didn't let people insult her or walk all over her. She did what she wanted, when she wanted. With her, what you saw was what you got.
“Seriously keeping it in mind. I consider myself mature solely based on the number of times per day I successfully stop myself from screaming ‘are you seriously that fucking stupid?’” Char could hear voices from the other side. “Go to hell!”
Char chuckled. Cat really was something. She didn't have to work, Cat was loaded but Char knew that Cat didn't like to depend on her family's money even though she had enough to last her two life times. She also knew that Cat loved what she did, though she wouldn't admit it.
“May you never run out of HR-approved ways to tell co-workers that they're stupid.”
“Amen to that, sister girl.”
“It's almost time. I'll come pick you up. Movies?” Cat got up from her bed to grab her purse and keys.
“Definitely.” Cat said before disconnecting the call.
***********
Char arrived earlier than expected. Cat still had ten more minutes to go. She got out of her car and walked into the firm, in the direction of Cat's office. As she walked, her eyes roamed the building. It was really huge. Cat was at the the top floor. She stopped in front of the elevator, waiting as it opened and a few business-like looking people walked out of it. After exchanging polite smiles and greetings, she stepped into the elevator and pressed the button to the first floor.
Getting out and breathing in fresh air, she walked towards Cat's office. Though the glass, she could see Cat sat with her head on her table. Her face wasn't visible as her black hair was spread all over the table covering her face but Char knew it was her.
“Hey babe,” Char said, walking in and taping Cat's shoulder twice.
Cat raised her head to look at her saviour. She had never been more happy in her life to see her best friend. She grinned widely.
“I love you so much.” she announced before standing up to hug Char. She quickly gathered her things, arranged her table and grabbed her handbag. “Just lemme go tell my boss I'm leaving.”
Char followed as Cat strolled over to the next office, the biggest office in the building. A middle aged man sat behind a huge table, typing away on a computer. He looked up as he saw his most stubborn employee walk in.
“Mind if I take off early, Dustin? I think I'm coming down with a huge case of fuck this place.” Cat said.
Dustin laughed. He never found whatever Cat said offensive because he was already used to it.
“Lemme guess. Today's mood: bitchy with a chance of sarcasm?” he asked with a raised brow.
Cat grinned. “You bet.”
“Sure, you can go. I'm leaving here soon anyway. I'm feeling a bit overworked and under intoxicated.”
“Thanks D,” Cat said with a chuckle, walking out of the office.
“Let's go.” she told Char as she walked passed.
“Wait.” she stopped when they neared the elevator. She took several steps backwards to where some people in cubicles worked, grabbed two cans of beer from a desk and handed one to Char.
“Hey! I was going to drink that.” a redhead said loudly.
“Hi. I don't care. Thanks.” Cat said before walking off.
“You're such a bitch.” the redhead said slowly, shaking her head.
Cat turned around to glare at her. “I was going to give you a nasty look, but I see you already have one.”
A few ooh’s and ahh’s choruses around the floor, making Char chuckle. After the morning she had, this was pure gold.
“Have a nice day. And when I say have a nice day, remember the ‘fucker’ is silent.” Cat said as she turned and walked away.
Char still stood in one spot, watching as the redhead squealed in anger, stomping her feet like a five year old whose lollipop got stolen. From the corner of her eye, she saw Cat's boss laughing quietly. That made her smile.
She strolled over to where Cat was standing, waiting for the elevator.
“I'm feeling like such a bitch today. I think I'm on someone else's period.” Cat whispered to Char and they both burst out in laughter.
The elevator finally opened as people slowly walked out of it. Char stepped in, waiting for Cat to do the same.
Cat turned to the redhead’s direction. “Fuck this. Fuck you. Fuck everyone, just fuck this fucking shit. You motherfucker and all of you looking at me, fuck off!” Cat bellowed before joining a laughing Char in the elevator and pressing the button to the last floor.
“If I worked here, I'd definitely hate you.” Char said, still laughing.
“Me too.” Cat grinned.“Thanks for being my go-to friend to discussing the annoying-as-fuck tendencies of practically everyone.”
“You're welcome.”
Seated in the car, Cat popped her drink open and watched as Char did the same.
“Here's to having a great friend by your side as you lose your shit. Because going crazy alone is just not as much fun.” Cat said proudly, raising her can up and connecting it with Char's.
“What's the female equivalent of a Bromance?” Char asked.
“A Hoemance!” They both yelled before taking big gulps of beer.
“There is something wrong with us.” Cat said as she took another gulp.
Char smiled at her best friend. Friends are like panties. Some crawl up your butt. Some don't have the strength to hold you up. Some get a little twisted. Some are your favorite. Some are holy. Some are cheap. Some are naughty. And some actually cover your butt when you need them to.

I particularly like this chapter.
