Chapter Three: Epic fail.
It's more fun to talk to someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy ones like 'hey, wanna have lunch?'
Chapter Three: Epic fail.
Charlee.
Wow. She didn't change one bit. Still the same old snarky Char.
God, he missed her. He missed everything. The times when they laughed together, played together, cried together. They'd grown up next door to each other. And boy, did they do stupid things. They got in trouble a lot. Sneaked around a lot. Those were good times. But he fucked up. Big time. He fell for Abby. I knew it was stupid but at that time I wasn't thinking clearly. He knew Abby was... She had lots of boyfriends. In the same school.
she managed to pull it off was beyond Daniel's reach. But then she started showing interest him. It was like hitting the Jackpot. Abby Solace, hottest girl in school flirting with him.
At first he thought she was doing it to spite Char. They hated each other. Badly. But then she told him she loved him and even applied to BU just to be with him. He left with her and they eventually got married. What a fool he was to believe that she changed for him.
Char wasn't at the wedding. To be honest, he was kind of shocked. But her parents assured him that work prevented her from coming. Nevertheless, he waa still sad. Nothing was the same without her.
Charlee.
He stupidly chose her over his best friend. They've been divorced for six months now. After four years of marriage, he found out that his precious wife had been having an affair, with her boss. She worked as a secretary in a marketing firm.
You saw it coming.
The late nights. The male cologne. The never ending text messages and outings. The weird expensive gifts.
He was too blind to see it. Or he saw it, but didn't want to accept it.
"Well?" Char said.
"I'm sorry,” was all he could say.
She snorted and he wondered what was so amusing.
"You're sorry? That's all you have to say." It was more of a sentence than a question.
She continued when he didn't reply, "Okay, sorry about what actually?"
"Everything. I'm sorry I left without saying goodbye. I'm sorry I let Abby come between our friendship. I know you're angry and you have every right to be. You can kick me, hit me, slap me, anything to make you feel better. Just know that I'm sorry." At that moment, he didn't care about her hitting or slapping him or anything.
He caused her pain and he'd do anything to take it away.
He looked at her. Waiting and expecting her to do or even say something.
Please Char, say something.
"Get out."
Wait, what?
"I said, get out! Leave my room!" She yelled.
He couldn't think of anything to say. He wasn't expecting that.
“Fine.”
He got out and shut the door behind him. He could hear her crying. Why the hell are women so emotional? He hated it when women cry. Especially Char. He was tempted to go back and comfort her. But he couldn't. If he did, the main reason why he was back would surface. He didn't want that. At least not then.
Truth was, he didn't want his best friend to know that his marriage was an epic fail. So he just left.
Charlotte's POV
Why did he have to do that? I heard him walk down the hall and down the stairs. Out the door. As he walked, I couldn't help but think that he was leaving me, again.
I wiped my tear stained face and unplugged my phone from its charger. I dialed Cat's number and she answered on the second ring.
"Hey babe!” Cat laughed. I figured she was probably with Zach. Her boyfriend.
"Hey hun, I know Zach's there. Can you talk?"
"Yeah, sure. Ouch! Zach, stop! Char needs me. Yes Char, you wanted to talk?"
I laughed but stopped when I thought about what happened few minutes ago.
"Daniel was just here.”
"What?" Char could totally imagine Cat's jaw on the floor at that moment.
"He's in town for an month. Doctors seminar shit or something like that."
"What the fuck? What the hell did he want?"
"He came to apologise."
"For marrying your enemy and leaving without so much as a word? Just a freaking letter! That guy needs some crazy ass beating. Wait for me. I'll be there in twenty." The call disconnected before I could reply.
While I waited for Cat, I arranged my room cause it was a huge mess. By the time she arrived I already took a shower.
"Babe, I'm here!" Cat called from downstairs.
"Come on up then!" I yelled
She rushed through the door and gave me a hug. I don't know why. Maybe she though I was depressed. I told her everything about Daniel a few years back. We were like that for a good amount of time. When she finally let me go, I could see she was mad. The next thing she said proved it.
"Now, ready to go make that idiot a piñata? I brought clubs." she looked at me hopefully. Then I saw two huge clubs in her hands. I have to admit, it was a really tempting offer. But as much as I hated Daniel at the moment I loved his face. And his body and those abs are just one of a kind. How I'd love to touch them -
Charlotte, snap out of it! You're supposed to be mad at the guy not fantasizing about him. Besides he's not that cute.
"Liar," My mind snorted.
"Shut up," I said back.
"Cat, as much as I'd love to, I can't face him again."
"Alright,” Cat's face dropped. "But when I see him, I'ma kick him in the balls. He ain't ever gonna be a father. That's for sure." Cat sunk into the bed, looking at the ceiling.
I couldn't help but laugh at that.
I also couldn't help but think that maybe one day...just maybe he'll be the father of my children. Stupid right? I know.
"But really Char, you okay?" Cat asked, looking at me.
"Honestly no, I wasn't expecting this. His coming back into my life brought back so many memories. The feelings I kept locked up have come back to haunt me. I thought I was over him. Turns out I was wrong. Cat, I'm confused. I can't keep seeing him. What do I do?" I asked looking at her.
"I don't know. Fly to Mexico, change your name to Alicia. Just leave town. Your feelings will betray you."
Cat always knew how to lighten the mood. I smiled. I was lucky to have her as my best friend.
"Did he explain what happened?" Cat asked
"He tried to. But I kicked him out."
Cat laughed and hi-fived me. "You did good, girl."
"You know what? Let's go shopping. It'll take your mind of things for a while." Cat said
"Okay."
I changed into a sweatshirt and black leggings, with White converse. I didn't dress up much.
After 15 minutes, we left for the mall.
