It Was Almost Him.

Canada.

They were in Canada. Originally there to film one of their Bon Voyage seasons, which had been completed two days prior. The members were granted an extended stay as a small mini vacation while their staff team headed back to South Korea to start creating the episodes. They were staying at a really fancy hotel not too far from a Ski/Recreational resort. Due to it being the middle of the winter, the entire area had previously been smacked with continuous snow storms. This had the members excited, as it meant the ski and sledding slopes would have great snow. The resort also had a ton of other things, such as rides, food vendors, and the sky bridge.

The damn sky bridge.

The biggest thing Jungkook had been planning to go on this entire trip. And today was the day he'd finally get to go on it. The sky bridge was a 500 foot suspension bridge that suspended above the bottom of the two highest mountains in Canada. Visitors needed to purchase tickets in advance to do the sky bridge, where you select a time slot available and cross the bridge with a group of about 30-40 other people, depending on the weather conditions. It was an extremely popular attraction for adrenaline junkies as there was absolutely nothing below the bridge, although everyone crossing it did have to be harnessed and attached to the handles, for obvious reasons. The attraction needed some form of safety protocol, after all.

Jungkook had purchased tickets three days ago, but kept getting emails that the bridge would be closed that day due to some maintenance issues. Yoongi was originally going to go on it with him until they got the first maintenance email, deciding "No way Jungkook, that's all you at this point." Today, finally, he got the email that the bridge would be up and running and the previous tickets would be validated for that day and time slot.

When they arrived at the resort, nobody knew what they wanted to do first, there were so many things. They decided on skiing, then sledding, then hitting the amusement rides. Jungkook's ticket said he had to be in line an hour early and get with his specific group.

"Can someone wait in line with me? I dont want to wait in line by myself for an entire hour," Jungkook asked his hyungs. They all averted their eyes, none of them wanted to sit in line for an hour if they werent even walking the bridge, they loved Jungkook but knew it truly was a waste of their time.

"Just make friends in line, then you can walk the bridge together like crazy people. Because you're crazy for wanting to walk across that thing," Jimin was terrified of heights and never understood how someone could just..not be.

Jungkook pouted, he wished Yoongi hadn't changed his mind about going as he really didnt want to talk to strangers. However, Jin was feeling pretty exhausted from todays events and how cold it was outside and knew the members would be running around doing other things, so he decided it'd actually be nice to get to just stand around and chill for an hour with Jungkook until it was time to let his youngest venture off to be, like Jimin said, a crazy person.

"Ahhh Jungkook-ah, I don't mind waiting with you," Jin patted Jungkook's shoulder, sending a smile to Jungkook's face. He always knew he could count on his Jin hyung.

"Let's go hyungie I'm sure the line is probably already forming!" Jungkook grabbed Jin's hand and dragged him away towards where they'd be waiting by the bridge entrance. The other members chuckled at how cute Jungkook was when he got excited about stuff, and then as Jin predicted, the members ventured off together to go have more fun around the resort.

"Which one of you raised Kookie to be crazy?" Namjoon chuckled.

"We'll just blame it on Jin hyung," Jimin insisted. Everyone laughed as they hopped back in line for sledding. The sledding hill had become their favorite part of the resort, and at the top of the hill they could actually see part of the view of the sky bridge. It truly was a remarkable view, and could easily be admired very far far away from the edge of the mountain, which was perfectly fine with the rest of them.

"Aish, a whole hour. Why such a long time?" Jin asked.

"I guess they give each group an hour to walk across it," Jungkook replied.

"Why so long? This thing looks like it takes 20 minutes to cross if you walk fast enough."

"To stop on it and admire the view, hyung."

"Well it's going to take everyone a lot longer to stare at the view with you standing there," Jin shot Jungkook a finger heart and then finger guns. He loved teasing his youngest. Jungkook smiled. Jungkook watched the group before his start getting on the bridge and he watched in amazement. He thought things like this were so cool, and he was so beyond excited that his group was next. Jin stared at Jungkook like a father would stare at their son who was discovering the world for the first time. Jungkook's child-like innocence made Jin's heart so soft. He truly was Jin's little baby, his youngest little maknae. Even if they were all adults, Jungkook was really just a child in an adult body.  His father like gaze was broken when he heard the chirping of the rest of their members coming up behind them.

"We got you guys some hot chocolate and hot dogs," Taehyung said as he handed cups and hotdogs to Jin and Jungkook.

"Oh thank you hyung!" Jungkook immediately started eating and sipping his drink while he continued to stare at the bridge and the people on it.

"Ahh I have the best dongsaengs," Jin started, "What have you all been up to?"

"Sledding. Just sledding. It's so fun," Hobi told Jin excitedly.

"So when is it Jungkook's turn?" Namjoon asked as he looked at the bridge, although he immediately had to look away. Being this close to the actual bridge knowing how high up they were sent a wave of anxiety coursing through him.  Jungkook and Yoongi were the only two in the group not afraid of heights, but even Yoongi sometimes had limits. Such as knowing the bridge had been out for three days, that right there was a limit.

"His group is next," Jin replied.

"Oh, cool. Well have fun we're probably going to go back to sledding. Bye bye!" Hobi grabbed Jin and Jungkook's trash and waved goodbye as he led the members away back to the sledding line.

Suddenly, a loud echoing creaking noise could be heard from every direction.

"What the hell was that?" Jin asked as he looked around.

"What was what?" Jungkook asked as he finally unglued his eyes from the bridge and turned to Jin.

"That loud ass noise, Jungkook."

"I didnt hear anything."

"How did you not hear that?! It literally echoed."

Jungkook just shrugged. Clearly Jin was just getting old and going senile.

Jin ignored it, but he stared at the bridge a little apprehensively. Had that noise come from the bridge? Maybe there were too many people on it? Or maybe the wind just shifted it a bit. An hour passed and the first group finally exited the other side.

"Hyung it's my turn!!!" Jungkook jumped up and down and clapped his little happy clap.

"Thank you for waiting with me hyungie, you don't have to stay now. I can take the trolley back and will find you after."

A man came over and started helping Jungkook put his harness on. Jin glanced at the bridge again, something just seemed off. It was so high up. And what was that creaking noise earlier? The thing was JUST under maintenance. It was safe though right? Jungkook would be safe? Of course he would. He was always safe. He'd bungee jumped upside down off a mountain before and was safe . Jin watched the man put Jungkook in the harness, and suddenly a small fear that had been brewing in his chest started bubbling into bigger fear. He didnt know why. Seeing someone else put Jungkook in literal chains made him feel weird. What if they werent up to code? What if they broke and Jungkook accidentally fell?  Who could he really trust with Jungkook's safety besides himself and his members?

"Hyung?" Jungkook got Jin's attention. Jin hadn't realized he'd been lost in thought. When Jin looked at him, Jungkook gave him a smile , "See you after!" Jungkook went to take his first step on the bridge, but despite Jin's fear of heights , he instinctively lunged forward and grabbed Jungkook's harness, "Kookie wait.."

Jungkook stepped back, "What's wrong?"

"Jungkook...I just..I don't think you should walk this."

Jungkook stared at him confused. They just waited for an hour in this line together and now suddenly Jin doesnt want him to do it?

"What? Why?"

"I just have a bad feeling about it and I just..I don't know. I just don't want something bad happening to you.."

"What could possibly happen hyung? The bridge is good to go and has already had multiple groups on it. It will be fine," Jungkook went to step back onto the bridge but was stopped by Jin pulling his harness back again, "Jungkook please.." tears were forming in Jin's eyes. Jin didn't know why he had suddenly become so worried , he had felt completely fine until he saw Jungkook in the harness. Something in the atmosphere just seemed off, he couldn't explain it. Jin just knew he didn't want Jungkook walking the bridge. At least not right now. Or at all, if possible. Panic shot through his chest.

"Hyung what's up with you, seriously? I'll be fine. I understand your fear of heights but that's why you're not the one walking it."

Jin pulled Jungkook into a hug and let tears fall, "Bunny please..I don't know I just feel like you shouldn't get on it. I know I'm overreacting and I know you are excited and I'm sorry but please don't walk this."

Jungkook felt annoyed, he saw the rest of his group already harnessed up and walking the bridge and was mad that Jin was holding him back. He tried to escape Jin's hug but Jin clutched him even tighter, "I don't want you getting hurt," Jin cried.

"I don't understand why you keep thinking I'm going to get hurt, hyung. Look," Jungkook pointed to his group," They're all fine, please let go so I can go on it now."

Jin absolutely refused to let Jungkook go. He couldn't let him get on that bridge. He didn't know why. He just couldn't. Jin was having a panic attack, Jungkook could tell. He let out a deep sigh, "Fine. Since you want to be so overdramatic about it, I guess I just won't go." Jungkook didn't mean to sound so disrespectful but he was rightfully annoyed at his hyungs actions. He turned to tell the guy who harnessed him that he changed his mind. The man came over and took the harness off him. As soon as the harness was off..

Creaking.

Snapping.

A wierd..pulling sound?

Collapsing.

The entire skybridge collapsed from both ends, with everyone in the group on it. Everyone except Jungkook.

Screaming, so much screaming. It echoed through the air. Screaming and crying and shouting from all directions. The bridge had fallen, 500 feet to the ground. With 30 people on it. 30 people who would not survive that fall. Jungkook would have not survived that fall.

Jin had dragged Jungkook backwards at the initial sound of snapping and now had his arms wrapped tightly around him. Both of them screaming and crying. Jin tried covering Jungkook's vision of the tragedy unfolding before them and had taken his hand and clutched Jungkook's face into his chest.

Sirens. So many sirens. Police. Firetrucks. Ambulances. Helicopters.

Jungkook and Jin both fell to their knees shaking, as did everyone around them.

"Oh my God. Oh my God," was all Jin could say over and over. His brain couldn't formulate any other sentence until Jungkook's screaming got louder.

"You're okay. I've got you. You're okay, hyung's got you. You're not hurt . You're not hurt..." Jin kissed the top of Jungkook's head multiple times. Jin's emotions were uncontrollable . People were just killed. So many people just ..died..in front of them. Jungkook would have been killed, right in front of him. It was almost him. It was almost Bangtan's beloved Jungkookie. Their baby bunny. But it wasnt. Jungkook was alive. Unharmed, at least not physically, and wrapped up protected in his hyungs arms. Tears of both sadness and relief flooded Jin's face. Sadness over this tragedy, but relief that his tiniest baby, had not been part of the outcome. He knew something had been wrong. He knew it. Call it hyungs intuition or whatever you want to call it, Jin just knew in his heart Jungkook would have gotten hurt had he stepped on that bridge.

"Hyung..h...hyung.." Jungkook was choking over his uncontrollable sobbing. As terrified as he was himself, Jungkook's safety was Jin's biggest concern. He needed to get him away from that area and somewhere quieter. Now Jungkook was having a full on panic attack. Trembling, Jin stood up and picked Jungkook up with him, cradling him in his arms.

"Hyung is right here. I'm right here," Jin pressed a warm kiss to Jungkook's tear flooded face, "We need to go," Jin carried him in the opposite direction as a multitude of emergency personnel ran past towards the bridge.

——-

The members were sledding. This had to be their fourth or fifth time going down the hill, it was so just so fun. At the top they kept trying to see if they could see Jin and Jungkook standing in line at the bridge, but they couldn't see the line, just the bridge part and some people already on it.

They were halfway down the sledding slope when they all saw it. They saw the bridge collapse and plummet out of sight. Collective loud screaming from everyone, including them, before they had all accidentally crashed their sleds into eachother.

"WAS HE ON IT?! WAS JUNGKOOK ON IT?!?!" Taehyung screamed and cried so loudly it echoed. Instant tears from everyone as their biggest fear shot through them. Jungkook is dead.

They ran, as fast as they could. Reality didnt feel like reality and it felt like the longer they ran, the farther away they felt. What felt like hours later, all of them dove into the crowd by the edge of the mountain. Searching for any sign of their maknae to just confirm he hadn't been on that bridge. And where was Jin?

They screamed for him as they ran. They all split up, screaming, crying. Taehyung ran up to a police officer and grabbed his arms, "PLEASE! My little brother!!" He cried so hard, "MY BABY BROTHER WAS..My baby brother was...Jungkook...Jungkook...please no ..no no no.." he didnt even know what he was trying to say, his mind was so fuzzy.

The members were panicking at everything happening around them. Everyone re-found eachother in the crowd.

"He's not here hyung!!" Jimin screamed.

Namjoon turned to a random person who was also screaming, "WHAT GROUP? WHAT GROUP WENT DOWN?!" He was so panicked. "TWO!  THE TWO PM GROUP!" The stranger confirmed their worst fear.

Jungkook was in the 2 PM group. They all fell to their knees, sobbing. Holding eachother like it was the last thing they'd ever do. At this point it'd be better to go jump off the edge and go land with him. Jungkook. Jungkook is dead. A familiar voice came screaming behind them, "HEY!!!!" Jin came running at them.

"He's gone .." Yoongi whispered as he stared at Jin. Void of all emotion now. What was the point of feeling anything anymore? If Jungkook couldn't , why should he get to? He was supposed to be with Jungkook on that bridge. He was supposed to die too. But Jungkook was killed, all alone.

"He's not," Jin sniffled and continued to hold back his tears, "I have him! I have him! Let's go!" Jin gestured for them all to follow.

Did Jin just say...he has Jungkook? He's not gone? What???? They all immediately scrambled to their feet and chased behind Jin. Their hyung leading them into a small building. And there he was. Their maknae. Curled up in a corner under blankets, alive.

"Hyungs.." The youngest whimpered as he reached out his arms from under the blanket, like a child who had been looking for their parent and finally found them and wanted to be held. They all dropped beside him, embracing him. Jungkook thought he was going to suffocate in their grasp, but he let them hug him as hard as they wanted.

"WE THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD!!" Hobi sobbed, "How are you..why werent you..oh my God our baby," Hobi choked out.

Crying was the only sound they heard against the muffled sounds of screaming coming from outside the building.

Yoongi turned to Jin as he wiped his own tears. It was such a rare sight, Yoongi crying. "Hyung what happened?"

"He..he...I dont know. I panicked and couldnt watch him get on that bridge. I dont know why I panicked I just did and couldn't let him go. I couldnt..I couldn't let him go.." Jin cried harder as he held Jungkook tighter. Jimin unclutched Jungkook and clutched Jin instead, "You saved his life. Thank you so much. Hyung you saved his life.." Jimin soaked Jin's shirt with his tears. They held eachother and cried. No words needed to be spoken. They had Jungkook in their arms, that was all any of them needed right now. Suddenly emergency personnel came in and told them all that the premises was being evacuated. Everyone was to leave the grounds.

Jin wiped tears off Jungkook's cheek and gently tilted his head up, "Can you walk?" Jin knew how badly Jungkook was shaking, they all were shaking, but Jin would gladly carry Jungkook a million times if he needed to. Jungkook silently shook his head yes, and everyone helped him stand. They were escorted to the parking lot where they had police escorts available to drive crowds home in vans. The members were taken back to their hotel and they gathered in their room. Media coverage of the incident was blowing up all over the internet and all over TV. They turned everything off. Jungkook immediately hid himself under the covers on the bed and cried. Everyone surrounded him on the bed joining him in tears. Again nobody said anything, they let themselves cry together as much as they needed to. Jungkook finally poked his head out from under the covers and turned to Jin, "You saved me...hyung..I should be dead right now...but you..you saved me hyung ," he cried as he threw himself into Jins arms. Nobody could fully comprehend what Jin had done. If Jin hadnt waited with Jungkook. Or hadnt had some weird premonition. How would anyone ever repay their hyung? There was absolutely no way to repay him.

Taehyung reached over and ran his fingers through Jungkook's hair, "I love you so much." This was followed by everyone telling Jungkook , and Jin, just how much they loved them. As the atmosphere calmed down , everyone cuddled in one bed and popped a movie in . Desperately avoiding any news coverage.

They all looked at Jungkook , who had fallen asleep wrapped in Jin's arms. Everyone wanted Jungkook in their own arms, but Jin wasn't willing to share him right now. They laid back and finally began to relax. Everyone knew there'd be more to come, probably interviews, more media coverage about the deaths, information on why the bridge collapsed, everyone knew the mental trauma would hit at some point, maybe they were all in too much shock still to fully process the situation.

All they knew was right now they had their maknae safe with them and that's all they could have ever asked for.
