It Took Me By Surprise --- Tam X Eternity

I would react badly to the slightest hint of hesitance...

Tam glared at the blue-eyed elf in front of him. "Why would you go and help Sophie with her stupid Black Swan duties?! Didn't I tell you not to?!"

No, she thought. "N- I...I'm sorry, Tam..."

"I'm too busy to deal with this! Go somewhere else!"

"Fine." She walked out the glass door.

She'd bend awkwardly to suit my mood, no word from her defense...

Tam raced after the black-haired girl. "Hey, Eternity! Come with me."

She looked at the boy with confusion. "What is it, Tam?"

He dragged her to the classroom. "I like someone...You know, that girl named Biana? The one with the dark and wavy brown hair and teal eyes?"

"Oh...her...Yeah, I remember Biana."

"She was a Vacker, right?"

"Yeah..."

"I really like her...Are you okay with me loving Biana?"

She wanted to say no and tell him that she loved him, but Eternity would never get the chance to be loved. So, she replied, "Go for it! She seems like a nice person."

As long as he was happy...

I'd cry knowing how my tears felt like acid burning through her skin...

Tam punched the poor door. "I HATE YOU, KEEFE SENCEN! (I don't hate Keefe!!!-Alpha) You just had to take her, didn't you?!"

"What happened? Tam? Look at me, Tam!" yelled Eternity.

"She...Biana...that idiotic Vacker has someone else," he answered with tears rolling down his cheeks.

"What?! Tam, no, don't cry! It's okay...you have me," she whispered to him, wiping the water on his face.

Little did he know that she wasn't just pushing his tears away; her heart was burning while watching him cry.

Pushed every little button but the right one that would let me in...

She smiled at him.

She laughed at his corny jokes.

She cooed at his compliments.

But she never let him know that he hadn't gotten her full trust.

She never let him know how hurt she was when he laid his eyes on another girl for love.

She never let him know that she loved him...

And now, she's afraid of me...

"Stop, Tam...YOU'RE SCARING ME!!! What happened to you?! What did the Neverseen do to you?!"

"It wasn't them...it was YOU."

Eternity shaked in bed every night, scared of the thought of Tam hating her. Nightmares kept her up late at night, but not one person asked her what gave her the insomnia.

She's afraid of me...

Sophie couldn't look at the already heart-broken girl. She took a deep breath and carefully told Eternity, "Tam's...gone."

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'GONE'?!" Eternity shouted.

"He's with the Neverseen now," added Keefe.

"No way...I...I....THAT SON OF A TRASHCAN (lol 😂)! Send him off to the enemy! He deserved it!"

Eternity broke down and sobbed on the hard, cold floor made of marble. "He wouldn't do it purposely...right?"

Sophie embraced the fragile girl. "Don't worry. He did it to save us."

What horrors will he be able to conjure up with his talent?

It took me by surprise

Eternity looked at the blade in awe. How could something so dangerous feel so good against skin? She danced the knife across her skin. She dreamed of the day when she could end it all.

The hatred in her eyes...

Eternity pushed everyone away from her. She wouldn't dare look at anyone. It was hard trying to control her emotions, and if she looked at another elf, she would lash out. There was so much hate in her eyes. Eternity couldn't stand the pity others gave her.

I've pushed this girl as far as she could go,

Eternity didn't let anyone else use her like a toy. She was tired of being used. She pushed everyone out of her life after she got betrayed.

But she lacked the words to let me know.

Eternity glanced up from her book. Sophie stood there, looking dazed. "Sit down," Eternity ordered.

Sophie obeyed, sitting on one of the velvety chairs. "We saw Tam. He said he's almost done with the undercover work. He'll be back soon."

"Whatever."

If he came back, nothing would change. Sophie and the crew would still be chasing the Neverseen. Eternity would still wait to die. And if Tam did come back, Eternity's death time would only near.

She acted out

Eternity stood on the roof of the crystal tower.

One step to the edge.

Two steps two the edge.

Three steps to the edge.

Four steps to the edge.

Five steps to the edge.

Six steps to the edge.

Seven steps to the edge.

Each step was for one member of their "friend" group. Sophie, Biana, Linh, Dex, Keefe, Fitz, and Tam. One more reason to die with each step. They were perfect without her. Why should a heavy burden like her mix with them?

Now I can see it is my FAULT...

She closed her eyes and spread her arms as if she was flying. She would at last reach her euphoria. She jumped and the wind pushed her hair up. "Goodbye..."

A few days later, at Eternity's Planting...

Sobs rang out throughout the humongous crowd. Murmurs were being whispered. How could a talented elf like Eternity just commit suicide? Their world was surely a terrible one during that time.

"How did we not notice-" she paused to sniff "-the signs? Tam was always with her and she had these weird pills with her..." whispered Linh.

"I don't know, Linh. Let's just hope we don't have to go to anymore Plantings for some time," Dex whispered back. Sophie nodded her head. "She'll be missed. She was a great asset to the team..."

"THAT'S IT?! SHE WAS A TOOL?! Nothing more to you? We just lost a life because I went to help our messed up cause! We just...lost...a life...because...I WENT..." Tam realized.

At least, he thought, she can be free now. Free from her pain...
