Chapter 50
Aunt Zoe's POV:
I was surprised to find out that my half-sister and brother-in-law have two children, both girls. I had only heard about Sarah from Chole in a letter a few months ago, but I had no idea about the newborn. Strangely, she didn't mention her to me.
I care about my half-sister, but she can be distant at times. She only recently started to communicate with me after years of no contact.
I've heard about the heroes in Paris, like Chat Noir, Ladybug, Rena Rouge, Carapace, Rooster King, Queen Bee, and Kid Zebra. I don't know their identities, but my husband is Viperion, and he revealed this to me two years ago, just before we got engaged. We've been married for two years now, which is amazing!
I haven't told Chole, but my husband Luka and I suspect one of my twins has a cleft lip. This isn't a mental issue, but it's something that can be fixed with surgery when they're older.
I smiled at Luka as we headed to the hotel. I am glad we have our babies due in a few months. I met Luka at a concert he held outside my school in New York. He was on tour at the time.
I was glad to meet my adorable nieces, Sarah and Madison. Sarah has strawberry blond hair and it's hard to believe she was adopted because she looks like Chole and Nathaniel. Madison has deep brown hair with a bit of a reddish hue to it. I think both of them are special.
I still remember the excitement; that Luka and I felt when we first found out we were expecting! As the babies' due date approaches, our excitement continues to grow. We decided to come and visit family because Luka hadn't seen his sister in years and we were hoping to see her. So far, we haven't, but we have an entire week. Who knows what could happen in that amount of time?
I was relieved when we finally arrived at my stepfather's hotel. He was just as kind as I remembered from our first meeting during a short visit to Paris over spring break in my junior year of high school. I wondered if he would recall meeting me.
"Hi, Andre," I greeted him with a smile as he hugged me. Then, he turned to Luka and asked, "Who is the fine young man?"
"This is Luka, my husband of two years," I explained.
"Ah, I see. Well, I am glad you have taken good care of my stepdaughter, Zoe," Andre said as he shook Luka's hand.
"Stepdaughter?" Luka asked in confusion.
"Yes, Andre is my stepfather because he was Audrey's husband, and Chole's father, while my mother was Audrey, but my father is Jefferson Lee," I explained.
"I see," Luka said, smiling. "Wait, was?" he asked.
"Chole and I lost our mother when we were little, remember?" I reminded Luka.
"Oh, right. I am sorry, I must have forgotten," Luka said.
"Zoe, and Luka, let me get your bags," Andre says. He takes us to the elevator and presses the button. He takes our bags inside, and once on the floor where our room is, he shows us to the room. It was the same one I stayed in during a past visit. I was glad since this way, I would not have to deal with dreary wallpaper. "How far along are you?" Andre asks as he sets down the bags. "How did you know?" I ask. "Believe, me I can tell, so when are the babies due?" He asks. "The twins are due in six months," I explain. "Ah, so you are three months along then," Andre says. "Yes, and one twin is a boy, and the other a girl, they are fraternal twins," I say. "Well, that sounds rather nice, I am sure they will be great kids," Andre says.
Luka smiles, "I hope the girl takes after her mother." He squeezes my hand. "I am sure both your children will be adorable because they will have traits from both of you. You are one great couple as is Nathaniel and Chole," Andre says.
"I never did hear from Chole how she got together with him," I say. "Well, it took a child," Andre states. "A child? What do you mean?" Luka asks. "You mean, Sarah?" I ask. "Yes, they released their feelings for another soon after they met Sarah, but it took months for them to admit it," Andre explains.
I smiled. I was happy for my half-sister because she met someone who made her happy. I could tell by how her face glowed and how healthy both their adopted and biological girls were.
I heard a funny noise outside, so I looked out the window and saw the heroes rushing past the hotel. All of them were there, except for Ladybug, who was expecting soon. That explains why we didn't see her.
I watched in amazement as they fought the crook. I was relieved that Luka didn't rush out there. I knew it was probably something he desired as a hero, but I would have worried more if he had been out there with the others. After the battle, as the heroes fist-bumped, I felt that two of them seemed familiar. I couldn't shake the feeling that I had met Queen Bee and Kid Zebra somewhere before, but where?
I watched as the heroes ran off in various directions. I was relieved that the damage was fixed thanks to Kid Zebra, and the villain was back to normal, the akuma was stuck in a jar, and everyone was safe.
I moved away from the window and sat at a small table. Luka took a seat beside me. André left and came back within a few minutes with something for us to eat. I was going to have Luka order a pizza, but maybe we can do that some other time.
I ate the spaghetti, garlic bread, and salad in silence. Luka did the same. The food was delicious.
"Thanks, André," Luka said. "Yes, Thanks," I said. "You are welcome, I could not let my stepdaughter, step-son-in-law, and future grandchildren starve," André said. He left the room smiling.
After the meal, Luka and I danced slowly. Luka was extra gentle with me. As I fell asleep next to him later that night, I felt the first day of our trip had been great. I could not wait to meet my sister-in-law. Juleka.
