Chapter 49
Sarah's POV:
I'm happy and excited. Chole is my mother, and Nathaniel is my father. Mom and Dad told me I was going to be a big sister. I couldn't wait to see my little sister or brother. Today, Dad took Mom to the hospital, and Grandpa watched me. I never knew life could be more wonderful than the day I was adopted. Now, I see that it is even better. Yes, my life is amazing.
I smile at Grandpa as he plays a game of checkers with me. I won the first game, but he emerged victorious in the next round. I stayed the night because I was told that Mom, Dad, and my sister would be home tomorrow.
"Yes, I have a sister!" I tell Grandpa. I couldn't wait to meet her. I hope she will like me.
The next day, after very little sleep from all the excitement, Grandpa took me home. I smiled as we entered and saw Mom holding her. She says, "You can hold her if you want." I nodded my head as I took a seat beside Mom on the sofa. Dad sat on the opposite side of her.
"Yes, please, I would be glad to hold my sister," I say. Mom placed her on my lap and I adored her.
"Awe, she is so cute," I say."What do we call her?" I ask. "Madison, her name is Madison Lee Ann Kurtzberg," Mom answers. "It is nice to meet you Madison, I am your big sister," I tell her.
I was more than happy to introduce myself to her. I made sure to support her head like Mom showed me too. I did not want to hurt her. She is special to me.
I remembered my other sister, the one I lost, and started to cry. I could not explain why, but somehow felt my other sis, approved of this one. I smile at her.
"Sweet, Madison, I love you, sister," I say. I kiss her cheek.
My baby sister yawns and holds onto my thumb. I thought that was a sweet gesture for someone so small. I heard the doorbell ring, and Mom answers it.
"Hello, sister, and brother-in-law," I hear someone say.
I saw her come around the corner to greet me. "You must be Sarah," She says.
"Yes, I am, and this is my sister, Madison," I explained. "Who are you?" I ask.
"I am your Aunt Zoe, and this here is my husband, your Uncle Luka," She tells me.
I was glad to meet my Aunt and Uncle. I handed my sister to Mom. She was asleep now so Mom put her in her crib for her naptime.
"I did not know I had an Aunt," I say. "Sure, you do, sweetie," Aunt Zoe says.
Aunt Zoe hugs us all, and then Uncle Luka does the same. They gave a card with the hotel on it, to Mom and I grinned. "Oh, you are staying at Grandpa's then," I say. "Grandpa's?" Aunt Zoe asks. "Yes, you are staying at my father's hotel," Mom explains. "Oh, I see then, my stepfather owns the hotel in town, well that is cool. What a small world we live in," Aunt Zoe states. "Yes, indeed, "Uncle Luka agrees.
My aunt and uncle visited for a few more minutes. Then, they stood up, "well we better go to the hotel then, hope to see you around later, we are staying a week," Aunt Zoe says.
"It was nice seeing you again, Chole, and meeting you Nathaniel, and our niece, Sarah," Luka says.
The two waved to us, hugged us goodbye, and then waved some more as they left our house.
"Wow, that was a nice surprise, I did not even know they were coming for a visit," Mom says.
"I am glad Aunt Zoe and Uncle Luka are nice," I say.
I smiled glad to have met some more family. Now, I have a Mom, Dad, sister, Grandpa, Aunt, and Uncle, I thought.
I noticed Mom and Dad kissing. "Awe, Mom and Dad are couples goals," I remark.
I walked off to draw some. I drew a picture of Mom, Dad, Madison, and I. I drew another one of Aunt Zoe and Uncle Luka. I smiled. I thought the resemblance to us all in the drawings was amazing.
I sure had improved with my art techniques over time.
I recalled Aunt Zoe had left something for me. I opened it to see a phone case and screen protector. I was so confused. I did not have a phone yet. I put them in my room, planning to thank her later.
I knew Uncle Luka had given me some money because he had slipped it into my pockets when he thought Mom and Dad were not looking. I counted it now. Wow, $200. I never had that much money before and felt overwhelmed by the amount. I suppose I better save some of it before I go spending any.
I looked over at my teddy bear. She was as lonely as I once was. Should I pass her on to some other child, or keep her? I was not sure since she was the last thing my biological mother was able to give me before she died.
A few minutes later, I heard a beep, beep, beep noise. The noise only grew louder the more I tried to ignore it. I closed the door and took a look at my anklet. Sure enough, the noise came from it. I noticed it glowed a pinkish-white color too.
I saw Zeebee staring at me. "So, you are big sister, now?" She asks. "Yes, what of it?" I ask.
"I hate to interrupt anything, but the others need you," She explains. I sigh.
"Fine, I will be right there," I say. "Zeebee, stripes on!" I say.
I turn into my alter ego, Kid Zebra, with Zebee's help. Carapace, Chat Noir, and Rooster King were there. Queen Bee and Ladybug were not. Ladybug was due any day now, and I hear Queen Bee was extra busy. Busy, I thought, what could keep me busier than assisting us heroes with the akuma?"
I saw Rena Rogue show up. I could tell Carapace was surprised to see her. "My sister Nora, and her husband, Kevin offered to watch the children," She explained. Carapace was satisfied with her explanation.
I admit it was different having her help this time around. I saw Queen Bee come, but she did not look thrilled to be here. "I had to drop her off at the sitters," She says.
"Her?" I ask. "Yes, her, I have a little one, but I could not bring her here it is far too dangerous," She explains.
I was surprised. I knew not to pry too much into her private life.
Chat Noir, Carapace, Rena, Rooster King, Queen Bee, and I fought hard. The villains lost as usual. Soon, the akumas were free, I caught them and trapped them in jars.
Chat Noir and the others fist-bumped me. I stomped the ground afterward and called out, "Miraculous Zebra!" The damage was fixed as if nothing happened.
The others went home. I was about to change back when Queen Bee grabbed my arm. "Thanks for all your help back there, Kid Zebra, we could not have done it without you," She says. "You are welcome, Queen Bee," I say.
I closed my eyes as I felt the transformation wear off. I heard a voice say, "Sarah, you are Kid Zebra?" I could tell whoever it was sounded shocked. I opened my eyes to see Queen Bee standing there. "Yes, but you can't tell anyone," I say. She smiles. "You are secret is safe with me," I hear her say. I see her transformation wear off and I can't believe my eyes.
"Mom, you are Queen Bee," I say. "Yes, but don't tell a soul," She says. "Does Dad know?" I ask.
"Yes, but he found out by accident," She explains. "Ok, that sounds fair enough," I reply.
The two of us head home. We see Dad singing to Madison and she lies there looking up at him.
I am glad our family is safe. It might be small but it is still good.
Grandpa smiles at her too. I am glad to see him. "Grandpa, is not my sister, Madison so cute?" I ask. "Yes, she is a joy, but so are you," Grandpa says.
The four of us, eat a nice meal together, Madison does not because she is only a baby. She gets mom's milk. I am not sure how that works, but I don't ask. Somehow, I am not sure I am ready for the answer yet.
