Chapter 36
Chole's POV:
I had been to see him for two weeks. The whole time he remained unconscious.
I know the doctors claimed it was the surgery and sedatives, but two weeks? I could not believe that was normal. How could it be?
I sat there holding his hand.
I begged him to wake up. I knew I had to keep talking to him.
I recall how the doctors came in earlier today and told me it was pointless.
"Come on, Miss Bouergious, you need to be realistic here, Your boyfriend isn't waking up. His vitals show he is slowly starting to decline due to the infection. You may as well prepare to tell him goodbye. He could go any day now," The doctors and nurses tell me.
I refuse to believe them. I will not give up on Nathaniel that easily. I know he is a fighter, I am sure of it. I have seen him in action and I refuse to give up on him.
"You don't understand, he is still in there somewhere, I know he is, he just needs to open his eyes and you will see. All of you will see that he is alive," I argued.
The doctors and nurses shook their heads as they left the room. It was like they had already given up on him. I wish there were better doctors and nurses in the world. How could they assume the worst like that?
Were not they the ones who told me weeks ago, to keep talking to him and when he is ready he will wake up? Good grief, it is like they are heartless or something.
I happen to love him and have no intentions of acting like he is dead. I know very well he is not. Sarah would agree with me if she were here. She is only with my father because of that ridiculous policy about how old you have to be to enter the hospital as a visitor. That and the fact there is no one else I would trust her with more than my father or Nathaniel. I can't trust her with anyone else. There is no one else.
Adrien Agreste gave up being my friend, years ago, and I don't blame him. I was a wicked, selfish brat, back in high school. In college, I tried hard to be nice, but it didn't happen, yet Nathaniel stuck with me through it all. I knew it was more than a crush I had on him. No, it was more serious than that I loved him through and through. Now, he needed to wake up so I could tell him as much.
"Nath, wake up... please, wake up for me!" I recalled pleading with him.
Then, suddenly today, he opened his eyes. Yes, I knew, I thought.
I smiled, and he did the same. I answered all the questions he had, and I confessed to him. I could tell he was relieved.
I called My father and shared the good news with him and Sarah.
"That is right, Daddy, Nath woke up! Can you believe it?" I said.
Sarah piped up, "Yes, I told you Dad would be okay." "That you did child, that you did," I said.
As soon as I got off the phone, I returned to him, and let him squeeze my hand again. I saw his goofy grin on his face. "What is it?" I asked. "You said, you love me," He said. "Yes, I sure did," I said. I could tell he was pondering something in his mind.
"You love me," He said.
"Yes, I love you, Nath!" I said.
"I love you too," He said.
I did not notice when the door opened because Nath kissed me.
I was too busy kissing him to care.
"Whoa, the patient is awake," One of the doctors said.
"Yes, I can see that," A nurse agreed.
The other doctors and nurses from before seemed surprised and rechecked his vitals. "How could this be? All systems are functioning at normal capacity."
Nathaniel broke the kiss and looked at them. "It is because of her, she pulled me out of the void," He said. "I beg your pardon?" The puzzled doctor replied. "She brought me out of the coma," Nathaniel stated. I smiled. "I am not sure what he means, but suddenly he woke, spoke to me, held my hand, and kissed me," I said. I grinned.
"Well, it seems we were wrong," A doctor stretched his head as he spoke.
"Yes, and?" I asked. "And, well that is it, He is alive, and better, much better than expected for someone asleep for so long," A nurse says. One of the doctors makes a remark that shows he agrees with the nurse, "We rarely see patients survive such trauma with such a blow to the chest let alone one that severed part of the heart, and was in a coma for as long as he was, yet he is not dead and awake."
I kept smiling as the doctors and nurses left the room completely dumbfounded by this new change in Nathaniel's health. I was relieved.
Yes, I thought take that doctors and nurses. You wanted to have me plan to bury him, and he showed you all. So, there ha!
I left the room and came back with some food for him. I made sure to include water and some ice cream with it. After all, he has been through, I felt he deserved some of the tasty treat.
