Chapter 34

   Sarah's POV:

I was at Grandpa's playing checkers.  I was winning too.

I frowned. I saw my anklet start to glow and heard it beep too.

"Sarah, whatever is the matter child?" Grandpa asks me.

*Author's note: Sarah calls the mayor Bougerious her Grandpa.

"Well, I have to change my bandage," I say.

He frowns but hands me the first aid kit.

"Thanks, Grandpa, and stay safe," I tell him as I kiss his cheek.

I  entered the bathroom, shut the door, and changed the bandage first, Then I called out, "Zeebee, strips spread!"  I smile as a bright black, white, and yellow light surrounds me. Then, I transform. Funny, my arm does not hurt now that I am a hero.

I  slowly opened the door and peeked out. I did not see Grandpa anywhere nearby.

I   went over to a window and opened it. I went outside closing the window behind me. I thought, Grandpa should be more careful.

I  ran to the hospital and freaked out. Yes, I did because why should the akuma be there?  I hoped Nathaniel was being hurt more.

I smiled when I saw Ladybug and Chat Noir were already there. Good to see them. Soon, Carapace joined us.

After a while, Queen Bee came, but she looked ticked off.

I can't say I blame her. She did say she was visiting an important friend and had to leave to help.

I wondered who Queen Bee was and who her friend might be. I could figure that out.

 I smiled.

I saw her in danger and she did not even notice, so being the good hero, I shouted, "Queen Bee, " watch out!" I pulled her away and zapped the bad guy.

Too bad, I could not have been transformed when that creep broke into Mom's house. It would have been helpful. Maybe then, Nathaniel wouldn't have gotten hurt.

"Thanks, Kid Zebra, I owe you one," Queen Bee says.

I smile glad I could help.

The rest of the fight was a success, we defeated the bad guys. Yes, I love it when we win!

After Ladybug and I fixed the damage, Carapace went home, and I left too. I ran in a different direction so no one saw me change back.  I smiled as I returned to Grandpa's.

I entered through the garage door, since he always left that open, again, he should close it.

I closed the door myself.  I locked the window from earlier.

    "Grandpa, you here?" I ask.

He peeked his head out from the kitchen, "In here, Sarah," He said.

I smile. I was glad he was okay. I went to see what he was up to. He hands me a plate of spaghetti. I ate it, happy to have some food since I heard my stomach growling.

As I finished eating, I sent a text to Mom. I had to borrow Grandpa's phone since I don't have one yet. I made sure she knew it was from me. I signed it as Sarah Jane. That way she would not think Grandpa sent it.

    I waited for a response.

Text from Chole:  "Sarah Jane, it was good to hear from you kid. Nathaniel is not awake yet, but the doctor says it must be because of the blood loss, and the sedatives they gave him."

I  smile in relief.  At least it was good news she had to tell me.

Grandpa says maybe he will convince Mom to buy me a phone for my birthday. I hope so. My birthday is in five months. I hope I will still get to stay with her then. I turn twelve on my next birthday and it would be good to finally, have a home. Home, yes I liked the sound of that word.

Dad is going to be fine, I knew it. I am not sure how I know, but I do.

"Grandpa, can I go visit him, please?" I ask.

"Sarah, the hospital called earlier and says no visitors under sixteen can go because of the early flu season," He explains. "Oh, man!" I say.

I read a book out loud to him and he seemed impressed. Why do not all eleven-year-olds read books by Sir Authur Conan Doyle?  I smiled as I finished reading the book.

I see Grandpa got a text.

I watch him blush, who could have sent it?  I did not think he had a crush. Is not he a bit old for such things?

I shrugged my shoulders. I watched the dishes since his dishwasher was broken. Then, I went and worked on a puzzle. It was a cool one with horses, butterflies, and zebras. I thought it ironic that I should be the Zebra Miraculous holder, but Zebras have always been my favorite animal. I wonder if the same is true for the other holders do they like the same animals as their hero self?

I see my bandage start to glow. What? How? I slowly lifted it up and gasped. The wound was healing, but how? I had never been able to heal myself before, so why was it different today?

I reflect on earlier and recall how Ladybug had accidentally bumped her elbow against my arm. Hmm, maybe Ladybug had healed it without even realizing it. I put my jacket back on and threw away the bandage. I was glad I no longer needed one because those things always felt so itchy and scratchy. At least, I thought so.

I turned on the news. Bad idea, there was nothing but bad news. I shut it off. I sat there stunned. Was there never any good news?  Not even a little bit.

I smiled when I thought about the other heroes and I rescued everyone else, and they do not even know it.

I went back to the puzzle. I finished it. I worked on another one. The next puzzle was of a mom, dad, a child, and their puppy. I glanced at it closely. That is weird, I thought, the people look a lot like Mom, Dad, and me. So, that does not mean, I get a puppy someday along with my wish coming true to have Mom adopt me and marry Dad.  I sure hoped so.
