Chapter 10

  Mayor Bougerious  POV:

"I do not know I can ever repay you, young man."

I was and would be forever grateful for what Nathaniel had done.

I knew he bravely fought off that  #$#%%#%  when he attempted to kill my daughter and the child she was going to adopt.

     I was so relieved.

I  was never happier than when the police took Jeff to prison.

I did not think it was good enough for him.

I was glad my loved ones were alive. I owed it all to Nathaniel, my daughter's best friend. Too bad she never gave him a second glance.  I knew he was just the right one for her.

I  smiled and clapped along with Sarah when Nathaniel kissed Chole's cheek.

I hoped it was a start to something new for those two.

Who was I kidding?  Jeff almost killed her and Sarah.

I shook my head. I was getting way ahead of myself again.

As a father, I wanted the best for my daughter.

"Chole, I  know Nathaniel is good for you. Too bad, you can not see it."

I saw her eyes widen in surprise. I could tell she was still stunned by the fact he had kissed her.

I  gave Nathaniel a high five.

I   walked away to get myself a soda from the vending machine.  Footsteps were heard not far behind me as Sarah followed me. I could get used to this, I thought.

"Sarah, would you like a soda, too?"

By the grin on her face and the way she nodded her head up and down, I took that as a yes.

I  reached the machine in no time. I purchased a Coca-Cola and a Sprite. I handed the Sprite to Sarah.

I  watched as she struggled to open it.  I took it from her, gently popped the top, and handed it back to her.

"Thanks, Grandpa!"  I  dared not correct the child.

While we sipped our sodas out in the hall, the room remained silent.

I took this to mean that either Nathaniel had dozed off again due to the medication, or Chole and he was busy.

I dared not disturb them even after Sarah guzzled down the last of her drink.  I helped her find a trash can, then it was off to the store.

Time to spoil that granddaughter of mine, I thought.
