Chapter 1
Wow it's actually semi-complete. Not edited, but I do not have the time nor motivation to do so. Hope it doesn't suck as bad as I think it does.
Exhausting was one word Marin could use to describe his night. He had been up till almost three in the morning trying to fight an Akuma Attack. She didn't understand how someone could have been akumatized at such a late hour; everyone should have been sleeping. He didn't question it much further though, he just wanted it to be done and over with. But since him and Chat Noire were both tired, it wasn't as easy as it should have been.
The villain was easy to beat, and they should have been done in only a few minutes. But something that should have been done in 10 minutes was completed in over an hour due to the lack of focus that the two had.
He had missed the villain with his yo-yo multiple times, which had, more than once, resulted in Chat getting either hit or tangled up by the weapon. But Chat was no better. She had dropped her staff multiple times, and nearly fell asleep on him while he was trying to figure out a battle strategy. They were a complete wreck. But, as always, they did manage to capture the akuma. Even though they were both pretty beat up by the end of the fight.
He did eventually get to sleep. It seemed as though just as soon as he closed his eyes, they were open again and the sun was shining in his eyes. "Hm...? What time is it?" He reached for his phone and checked the time. It was 08:23. "Tikki! I'm late!"
Tikki yawned as she rose from her slumber as well, rubbing her eyes. "Why are you surprised every time? This is kind of an everyday thing now."
"Har. Har. Very funny, Tikki, but I can't be late one more time after this or I'm getting detention." He got dressed quickly then looked at his phone. 08h26. "I can't make it. Or..." He looked at Tikki. "Marin can't make it, but you know who can?"
"Great idea, Marin!"
"Tikki, spots on." He transformed then jumped off the balcony and made his way to the school. Right before he got to the stairs, he transformed back. 08h28. "With two minutes to spare~"
Marin ran up to his class and made it right before the bell rang. Alyn gave him a high five for his ability to actually make it on time.
"Looks like someone made it." Monsieur Bustier chuckled, then started the class off with a lecture and notes.
The day went by quite smoothly. For some reason, Clovis didn't show up until after lunch. He had probably slept in, but Marin didn't question it. He just tried his best to ignore him, since for once in his life, Clovis was ignoring him. He wasn't about to complain. This was pretty great. Not having to deal with Clovis and being able to stare at the back of Adrienne's head all day long.
But as the end of the day came, he was hit with a harsh reality.
"Marin, it's now or never. Prom is in two weeks. You know that if you don't ask her really soon, someone else is going to beat you to it." As Alyn said this, he gestured in the direction of Clovis, who was on the phone by his locker, then Miles, who was looking at a notebook, probably some kind of notes.
Marin knew that fact all too well. "Yeah, but what if she flat out rejects me? What if she doesn't like me at all? What if she thinks I'm a total loser. What if she likes Miles? Oh, god, Alyn, what if she goes to prom with Miles? They'll slow dance! There is always a slow dance at prom. And if they go together, they will slow dance! And you know what slow dancing leads to? Kissing. There is no way I can let him be that close to Adrienne. Ah, I'm going to die." Marin slapped his own cheeks harshly, resulting in two red handprints left on his face.
"Who's close to me?" As the voice behind Marin sounded, he didn't have to turn around to know who it was. Not that he could just turn around. Not even seeing her, just her voice was enough to make his heart flutter and his mind go blank. And even if he could turn around, what would he do next aside from stutter like mad. He wouldn't be able to get out a coherent sentence.
But that didn't stop Alyn from speaking up. "Hey, Adrienne, Marin just had a question for you." Alyn winked at Marin, who glared back. If looks could kill, Alyn would be six feet under.
"Really? What did you want to ask me, Marin?" Adrienne asked, her sweet voice resonating in Marin's ears.
Marin struggled to turn around. Once he did, he gulped as he looked down at her small stature. So cute... He thought as he examined her. There was something different about her, Marin observed. Her hair was tied up in a high ponytail with her bangs framing her face. But it wasn't just her hair. Her skin was much more tanned most of the time. Today she looked pale. And it wasn't a wintery snow pale. It was a grey, ghostly pale. He was worried about her now. Why did she looks so pale? What was wrong with her?
It was as if all his nervousness had vanished and was replaced with pure concern for his crush. "Adrienne, are you alright?" He approached her slowly, standing only inches away from her as he tried to examine her face better. He thought he say a bruise on her face that was covered in make-up. It was hard to tell for certain, but he was sure that was the case. What happened to her to cause a bruise to form on her face?
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine, why do you ask?" Adrienne tilted her head slightly, pursing her lips in confusion, though she somewhat knew what he was talking about.
Marin was about to interrogate her further when he finally realized how close they were. They were nearly touching. Did she not notice? Marin's face heated up, the shyness hitting him like a train. "Ask? Ask what? Y-You're the one asking questions. You're you. You- You're very pretty. Like, absolutely gorgeous. Have you seen your own face? It's literally like an angel. You're like an angel, just without wings!"
"So... A person?"
"No, you're better than a person. You're hotter than the average person. You're, like, the hottest person I've ever--"
Alyn sighed and put his hand over Marin's face to prevent him from embarrassing himself even further than he already had. "So, Adrienne, do you have plans made for May 7th?"
"May 7th?" She pursed her lips in thought as she pulled out her phone to look through her schedule.
Alyn could just barely hear Marin mumble something into his hand. Probably something about how cute she was, judging by the lovestruck expression in his eyes. Of course, that expression was almost always there when he was around Adrienne.
Before Adrienne could answer, an arm was slung around her shoulder, startling her slightly. She nearly jumped and dropped her phone, but managed to keep a secure grip on it.
"Hey, Adrienne~" Miles whispered into her ear seductively, glancing down at her phone. "You have Ladybeetle as your background, huh?" He chuckled.
Marin's eyes lit up at hearing this fact.
"Yeah, he's great, don't you think?" She smiled brightly, staring down at her phone.
The jealousy was clearly radiating off of Miles. "You do know, I'm pretty close friends with him."
"Really?" Adrienne put her phone away and clasped her hands together, facing Miles completely.
"Really?" Marin grumbled into Alyn's hand, which had been yet to be removed.
"Of course. We're the best of friends." He winked at her, snaking an arm around her waist and turning her away from Marin and Alyn. "How about we go to the park and I'll tell you what I know? And I have a question I wanna ask you. It's very important and I'd rather do it where no one can interrupt."
"Uh, sure, that's no problem." She glanced back at Alyn and Marin, waving as she was pulled away by Miles.
As soon as they were a decent distance from the two, Alyn let go of Marin's mouth, but had to hold him back as soon as he did. "Chill, bro!"
"That's my Adrienne, he can't touch her like that!" Marin growled, trying to stomp over to the two.
"Marin, I hate to break it to you, but she's not your Adrienne, yet. You haven't asked her to prom, so--"
Marin slapped his cheeks, cutting off Alyn from speaking any further. "Miles is going to ask her to prom! I have to stop that from happening! That cannot happen!" He broke from Alyn's grip and ran after Adrienne, who was leaving the school.
He followed them to the park. He watched the two from behind the corner of a building. "How can I stop them? I didn't think this through." He was about to slap his cheeks once more when he thought of an idea. "Tikki!" Marin grabbed his bag and opened it.
"Marin, I think you need to approach her as Marin. I don't think she can go to the prom with Ladybeetle..." Tikki tried to reason before Marin did something incredibly stupid.
"Not a chance. I can barely talk to her as Marin. And besides, the dance is a masquerade party. And I'm much better at communicating with her as Ladybeetle. And she at least thinks I'm cool. She has me as her phone background."
"Doesn't every girl?"
"No. And, I need to meet Chat for patrol in 5 minutes. I'll just be a little late." He took a deep breath. "Okay, Tikki. Spots on."
Tikki let out a small sigh, but then transformed Marin to Ladybeetle.
Marin took yet another deep breath and walked over to Adrienne and Miles. He approached them from behind and put a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, I know you." He wrapped an arm around her waist, much similar to how Miles did, and pulled her closer to him. But more importantly, away from Miles. He watched with glee as resentment showed on Miles face and Adrienne's cheeks lit up a light red and her eyes sparkled.
Miles was not happy, but Adrienne definitely was. She seemed more than thrilled to see him. "L-Ladybeetle." Adrienne had a bright smile on her face. One that was not there when she was talking to Miles.
"Hey, Adrienne, who's your friend?" Ladybeetle grinned, knowing that this would throw her off completely, seeing as though Miles had lied about knowing him.
"You don't know him? He said that you two..." Adrienne looked between the two, completely confused as to what was going on. "I thought you knew him, Miles. That's what you said."
"I do know him! If you knew him, you'd know that he's a jokester." Miles laughed, glaring at the hero as he pulled Adrienne back to be closer to him.
Adrienne furrowed her brow and pushed Miles' hand away. "I do know him, and he isn't one to be that much of a jokester."
Ladybeetle found it incredibly hilarious that she was telling Miles off like she was. He didn't even have to say much. But as to how Adrienne would know that he isn't one for jokes was beyond him. He decided to look over it, seeing it as just a small mistake on her part. "He's not your boyfriend, right?" He had to ask. He needed to know if Miles had asked her to prom yet or not.
"Boyfriend? N-No, he's just a friend. Why do you ask?" It was as though Adrienne's conversation with Miles had completely vanished from her priority list. She was gazing at Ladybeetle with a starstruck look.
This was the side of Adrienne that was just too adorable to miss. Seeing her get so shy and nervous around him made him feel a little better about getting shy and nervous around her. "I just wanted to know if I was going to have any competition." He chuckled as he watched Adrienne's face turn red. But it wasn't like her normal blush though. Since her skin was so pale, it was more of a faded red.
"Competition? You mean that you--"
"Why are you here talking to a few people when you should be protecting people who are in danger?" Miles interrupted Adrienne, standing between the two to create a barrier between them, preventing the two from being close. He didn't physically move Ladybeetle, but he was willing to create that wall between them.
Ladybeetle wanted to push him away as he watched Adrienne's expression change to a much more depressed one. He nearly growled in annoyance, but he had to keep his composure. "I'm just patrolling. Waiting for Chat to get here."
Luckily, he didn't notice when Adrienne's eyes widened, realizing she had completely forgotten that she was supposed to meet him for patrol at 3:00. She knew she'd have to find an excuse to leave soon. "Hey, Miles, what time is it?"
Miles pulled out his phone and checked the time. "It's 2:57."
"Really? I need to get going or I'll be late." She started to leave when Miles grabbed her wrist with a tight grip and pulled her back. They were facing each other, no more than a couple inches separating them. He was starting to lean in, much to the other male's disapproval.
"Why are you leaving so soon? I don't recall you having any plans."
"I have a photoshoot that I really need to get to. It starts at 3, and I can't be late again or my mother will probably kill me."
"A kiss goodbye?" Miles leaned in, closing his eyes. She looked clearly uncomfortable.
"Nope, you heard her, she has a photoshoot she needs to be at." Ladybeetle placed his hand over Adrienne's lips, blocking Miles from doing what he had intended, much to the annoyance of said person.
Adrienne smiled and turned away to leave, waving to the blue eyed male before leaving.
Miles sighed as he watched her leave. Then, as soon as she was out of sight, he turned to the hero and glared at him. "You ruined my chances of asking her out before someone else beat me to it. Do you realize what you've done?"
"Sorry, I'd love to stay and chat, but I gotta go. Can't keep Chat waiting ." He winked and used his yo-yo to swing away from the park and to the roof, leaving a very annoyed Miles.
