Chapter 5
I waited for about two minutes, then my phone buzzed. It was a text from him.
'Thank God, I was really starting to lose hope that I would hear from you, and that would have been really heartbreaking. I'm free tomorrow. How about meeting in the same coffee shop? Then we could go to any other place together.'
I smiled and replied with, 'Perfect, meet you there'.
Did I just put gasoline on myself and was waiting for him to come and lit me on fire? Or was it the right choice?
I had an idea that I would know the answer to that question, very soon.

I didn't have much sleep that night. I mean, how could I sleep when I was having a date with the man who was in charge of making sure I end up in jail sooner than later.
I had two hours before meeting with Jake and I had no idea what to do. So, I decided to go and speak with Eric. I really needed some advice and he was the best I can get at the moment.
I went to his room and found him sleeping so I decided to wake him up by splashing some water on him.
He woke up with wide eyes. "What the hell, Emma!" he yelled at me, and I giggled at his reaction.
"Come on, rise and shine. I need to talk to you," I said with a little smirk.
"What is so important that would make you dare and wake me up for?" He narrowed his eyes at me.
"Well, I have a date today," I said, putting on an innocent face.
He seemed confused but then he remembered something and his eyes widened. "Don't say it." He shook his head.
I didn't answer him; he sighed and put his head in his hands. "So, are you out of your mind? Or are you willing to spend the upcoming years of your life in an orange jumpsuit?"
"I don't have a lot of choices, Eric. I'm not running because, by that, I would be giving up everything I have ever wanted," I argued, waving my hands in frustration. "And, I will be careful. He won't know what had hit him at the end."
He narrowed his eyes at me again. "Okay, but when you would be sitting in a prison cell alone and dwelling on all of your life choices, remember that I warned you."
I rolled my eyes at him, but in fact, he was right.
"So, Mom called me," I said when I remembered yesterday's call, and I was also desperate to change the subject.
"I know," Eric said.
"Why didn't you tell me they were thinking about quitting too?" I asked, my eyebrows brought together.
"I guess Mom wanted to tell you," he replied, then he rolled his eyes at me. "Oh, and I'm not convinced about this whole thing. It would be a really boring life."
My lips tilted into a little smile. "I guess life is missing with me; I can't run with the whole thing now. I still have to deal with that FBI agent."
"God, of all the coffee shops in New York he had to come to the one you were at, and sit with you of all people," he said, laughing a little bit at the irony.
I laughed bitterly. It was really mind-blowing. It was like one of those fiction stories that can only be found in books or movies, but here I was.
"Yeah, what an irony," I said. "I guess I have to go and get ready for my lovely date."
I was about to leave the room, but Eric called after me and made me stop in my tracks. "Please be careful, Sis."
I nodded and gave him a slight smile before I walked out of the room.

I decided to wear dark skinny jeans and a simple white top. I let my hair flow normally in its daily, wavy look. I put on some mascara and lipstick. And finally, I finished my look by putting on my favorite black leather jacket. To be honest, I looked flawless.
My phone buzzed and it was Jake telling me that he would meet me in the coffee shop in 10 minutes. I looked at myself in the mirror for the last time and sighed. What was I really doing for heaven's sake?
I shook my head to clear my mind before I grabbed my purse, and walked out of the apartment.

I arrived at the coffee shop and found Jake already waiting for me. He was wearing black jeans and a simple grey T-shirt that showed his amazing, masculine body. His hair was messy and looked like he just rolled out of bed, but I thought that it added to his already irresistible look.
His smile grew when he noticed me and I returned the smile before I made my way to the table.
"Sorry, if I was late," I apologized with a little smile once I made it to the table.
"Don't worry, I just arrived." He smiled back at me. "So, what would you like to drink?"
"Um, I think I will go with a white chocolate mocha," I answered. It was one of my favorite drinks.
"Okay, and I will take a latte," Jake said, and then he went to order our drinks.
He really seemed sweet, but who was I kidding? He was a freaking FBI agent.
He returned back later with our drinks in each hand. He handed me mine and I thanked him with a smile.
I took a long sip from my drink, trying to ease the awkwardness but it was useless. I took a glance at him and found myself automatically smirking. "So..." I broke the silence. "What made you want to become a federal agent?" My curiosity was getting the best of me.
He smiled and took a sip of his coffee before he started to speak. "Well, I guess it was just the right thing for me."
I gave him a little smile and took a sip from my own drink.
"What about you?" Jake gave me an interesting look. "Why did you choose to study art history?"
"Well, I really love art, and I think it was also the right thing for me," I said, giving him a little smile.
He smiled and nodded.
"But isn't it hard? I mean being an FBI agent?" I asked again, refusing to let the subject drop. Yup, my curiosity will be the end of me.
He chuckled a little; I guessed he noticed that I cared too much about his job. "Do you watch Criminal Minds a lot?" he asked, smirking.
I gave him a confused look that made him laugh.
"You just seem very interested in that subject." He shrugged with a smile. "And believe me, it's not like anything on TV."
"Forgive me, I have never been on a date with an FBI agent before," I said, letting out a laugh. Well, it was the truth, I would have never even imagined it in my wildest dreams.
His eyes lit up and he smiled. Did I say something wrong?
My eyes widened and I blushed when I realized what I had said. I have just admitted that we were on a date.
"I'm so glad that you admitted that this's a date," he said with a smirk.
I was still blushing and I threw him a look that made him laugh.
"Well, it's a lovely, friendly date." I let out a smirk of my own while taking a sip of my coffee.
"Whatever you say." His lips tilted a little up into a gorgeous half-smile. "And to answer your question, yeah, sometimes it's hard. But nothing tops the feeling when you know you have done the right thing by bringing the bad guys in handcuffs and delivering justice."
I swallowed hard and forced out a smile. If he only knew...
"Um, would you like to go somewhere else?" Jake suggested.
"Y-Yeah. I guess it's a great idea," I said a bit absentmindedly as Jake's words were still clung to my mind.
"Great. Let's get going, then," Jake said with a smile, gesturing with his hands toward the outside of the coffee shop.

We decided to go to Central Park as today's weather was warm and lovely. We drove to the park in his Black SUV.
We walked together for a little bit before we finally found a nice bench that faced the lake and sat next to each other.
"So, what about your family?" Jake abruptly asked.
"Um, t-they work in freelance," I answered him, uneasily. "I also have a very annoying older brother." Jake laughed a little.
Eric would kill me if he knew that I mentioned him to an FBI agent.
"What about you?" I asked him, a bit curious myself.
"Well, my father is a lawyer and my mother is an events manager," Jake said, smiling as he seemed to remember his family. "I also have an annoying little sister who's still in high school."
I gave him a little smile, then I decided to focus on my main goal. "So, did you catch the thief that broke into the Met?"
"Unfortunately, not yet." Jake let out a deep sigh. "But I will catch her sooner or later."
Oh, fantastic!
I swallowed hard again, before deciding to ask him a specific question. "So, the thief was a girl?"
He scoffed. "Yeah, and she jumped off the freaking building using a single rope." His tone was a little bitter. "She's good, but I'm going to catch her eventually."
I smirked, he just admitted that I was good. I cleared my throat before I spoke up. "I wish you luck with that."
We talked for another couple of hours about random stuff and I avoided every personal question as much as I could.
He insisted on driving me home and I hated to show him where I lived, but the apartment wasn't registered with any of our real names so it wasn't really a big deal.
We were in front of my building now. I looked at Jake before I mumbled. "Thank you for today, Jake. I really had so much fun."
He gave me one of his amazing, beautiful smiles before he said. "Me too, Emma. I hope it's not going to be our last 'lovely, friendly date'," he said, using his fingers to quote my words.
"I don't think so." I laughed. After that, I got out of the car and closed the door behind me.
"Bye, Jake," I said, waving at him.
"Bye, Emma." He gave me a soft smile before he drove away.
I stood there for a couple of seconds staring at the direction the car disappeared into. I gave out a little smile before I headed inside the building.
Well, maybe the date wasn't really as bad as I expected it to be.
