Chapter 27

I was in my office running through every little detail that we had on Adam Blake over and over again, trying to find anything that might lead me to him or where he might be hiding her, but there was nothing useful. It was killing me to know that she might be in danger, and I was just sitting here helplessly, not being able to find her.

The door of my office opened followed by Luke stepping inside, he sighed as he took a seat in front of me. "Did you find anything?"

"Not, yet," I answered, not looking at him, and still going through the papers that were in my hand.

"We will find her, Jake," Luke tried to reassure me. "Don't worry."

I stopped what I was doing and looked at him. "What if it was too late?"

"Emma is smart. I'm sure she's going to be fine," he assured me.

I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair in exhaustion. I couldn't stop thinking that I had a hand in what happened to her. And all I hoped for was to find her, and she would be safe and sound.

My phone buzzed indicating that I had received a new message, I grabbed my phone and started checking it out. My eyes widened once I read through it... It was from her.

"Jake, what is it?" Luke asked in concern when he noticed my change of expression.

"The message," I answered quickly, showing him the phone. "It's from, Emma."

His eyes widened when he read the message.

"We got the location," I said, rising up from my seat, then I walked through the door. "We have to gather up a force and move quickly."

Luke nodded and followed behind me. I immediately went to the ASAC and told him about the whole situation. He felt that there was something suspicious in the beginning, and he was afraid that it might be a trap as he couldn't believe that Emma would help us. I convinced him that it wasn't a trap and I told him that I trusted her and that she wouldn't do something like that. After a long debate between me and him, he finally agreed and gave his permission for a raid on the location that Emma sent to us.

We knew that Adam and his gang were very dangerous, and we were sure that the place would be loaded with armed guards so we asked for the help of NYPD and a SWAT team.

I was getting ready for the mission, I put on my FBI bulletproof vest, and made sure that my gun was loaded before I holstered it.

I was thinking about her all the time. I was really happy to know that she still trusted me by sending me that message, yet I was really worried about what Adam might do to her if he found out that she was the one who sent us the location, and that was why we needed to hurry. I had to find her before anything might happen.

Emma, just hold on for a little bit more.

I was still sitting on the bed next to Adam not knowing what to do. I sat all night thinking about what might happen if Adam knew that I sent a message to Jake, and about what Jake would do.

I sighed, thinking that there was nothing else I could do but wait.

The morning light started to illuminate the room from behind the curtains. A few sun rays fell on Adam's face causing him to move, and hide his face with a pillow. After a while, he opened his eyes and looked at me in suspicion. I guessed that it took him a while to remember what happened yesterday night then he covered his face with his hand in exhaustion.

"Damn, I shouldn't have drunk too much yesterday," he grumbled as he sat next to me. "We should have spent the night together."

I sent him a fictitious smile. "There's always another time."

He smiled at me, then he noticed the signs of tiredness on my face. "You look tired. Didn't you have enough sleep?"

"Not really. I just didn't get used to the place, yet." I shrugged.

"You will, soon enough." He smiled at me and gave me a quick kiss before he got out of bed while holding his head. "I will go get a shower to relieve that damn headache a little."

"Fine, and I will go to my room to change," I said. He nodded his head before he headed toward the bathroom.

I sighed as I got out of bed, then I left the room. I went to my room and was about to grab some fresh clothes from the wardrobe to have a shower when Adam stormed into the room. I turned to face him, his expressions were totally changed, and he looked so aggressive.

Damn it!

"Adam, what's wrong?" I asked, trying to look innocent as much as I could.

"Really, you don't know?" he asked through gritted teeth. "There's an entire force coming our way, why do I sense that you have a hand in the matter?"

A smile made its way to my lips automatically, and I decided to drop the innocent role. I looked at him silently with eyes full of triumph.

He looked at me with expressions full of rage. "I spent four years in prison because of you, and instead of thinking about how to get my revenge, I broke you out of prison because I couldn't leave you there to suffer. And that's how you thank me?"

"I told you that I would never be like you whatever the cost was," I snapped at him.

"Oh, and that's why you called for your knight in shining armor." He laughed bitterly before he took his gun out, and pointed it in my direction.

I automatically took a step back when I saw the gun in his hand, but then, I gathered all of my courage and looked at him directly in the eye. "What? Are you going to shoot me? Go ahead, you are just a coward."

He closed the gap that was between us and grabbed my hand violently with his other hand that wasn't holding the gun, causing me to moan in pain. "If I wanted to kill you, I would have done it a long time ago," he said as he looked at me in the eye. "But, I still want you, and that's why we are going to leave, now."

"There's no way in hell that I'm going to go to any place with you," I seethed at him.

He grinned evilly before he said. "That's good because I'm not asking for your permission."

I looked at him in confusion but then, I was surprised with the hard contact of the butt of his gun with my head, followed by blackness flooding over my consciousness.

We arrived at the location, and everyone started taking their positions from the FBI agents, the NYPD police officers, and the SWAT team. We were ready to attack.

The SWAT team was the first to storm into the building. Several gunshots were heard once they got in, indicating the start of the fight. We followed them, but we went straight to the inside of the building.

"FBI, freeze!" I shouted. The people who were in started to run as fast as they could and agents followed after them.

One man thought he was brave enough and didn't run. He pulled out his gun instead and started shooting toward us, but he immediately received a shot in his leg and another one in his dominant hand that was holding the gun, causing him to collapse to the ground helplessly. Agents ran to him and handcuffed him immediately.

"Tell me where is Blake," I demanded when I approached him.

He looked at me with hatred for a few moments before he spat. "The bastard took his girl and ran away without even warning us when the guards told him that you were coming."

"Where did he go to?" I asked angrily.

"He has a safe house close to here," he answered. "I think he went there."

I hurried with some agents to the place the man told us about. It was a small house not far away from the mansion. Blake probably didn't expect that one of his men would give him away.

We stormed into the building, but it was empty at first sight. Agents started checking every inch of the house including me. I searched a few places but there was nothing until I came to the basement, I tried to open the door but it was locked. I shot a bullet towards the knob of the door, it broke down and the door was opened. I carefully walked in but it was dark, and I wasn't able to see anything. I abruptly received a hit on my backbone that made me lose my balance and drop my weapon.

The light went on allowing me to see my attacker. Adam was standing with a smirk on his face, pointing his gun in my direction.

He let out a sarcastic laugh. "Please don't tell me that you're the knight in shining armor, because that would be so pathetic."

Rage burned inside of me, and I wanted to kill him so badly. He was about to shoot at me, but I moved quickly and threw a kick toward his hand that was holding the gun causing him to drop the weapon, then I hit him in the stomach.

He groaned and quickly got out a knife that was hidden somewhere with him before he stood up, then he came quickly with the knife toward my stomach. I hadn't had the time to move quickly but luckily, I was wearing the bulletproof vest and the knife couldn't do any damage. He tried to jab me with the knife again but I defended every attack. But one time, I wasn't quick enough and he opened a cut on my arm and hit me in my ribs, causing me to take a step back as I suddenly found it harder to breathe.

I moaned in pain but regained my concentration quickly. I waited for him to attack again, and when he did, I grabbed his hand that was holding the knife quickly and twisted it until he dropped the knife. I managed to kick it away, then I slammed him hard to the wall, and hit him in the ribs repeatedly.

He tried to kick me, but he was so much weaker now, and I was angry. Thinking about Emma made me angrier. My fist hit his jaw then I kicked him in the stomach. He collapsed to the floor but that didn't stop me, I continued to kick and hit him until he lost consciousness.

I looked at him, breathing heavily. My body was sore and my arm was bleeding, but then I remembered Emma. I hurried to look for her.

I searched every inch of the vault and found her lying on the ground unconscious. There was a wound on her head that was bleeding heavily. Seeing her like that made me want to go back and shoot that bastard to death. I ignored my urge, I went to her quickly and checked her pulse. I was relieved when I made sure that her heart was still beating.

I ran my fingers through her hair. "I'm so sorry, Em. I promise that I won't allow anything or anybody to hurt you, ever again."

I exhaustedly sat next to her and waited for the rest of the agents to arrive.
