Chapter 20

I crushed the man into a hug as he tried to adjust to the light. "You are such a pain in the butt."

"Don't start crying on my now," he chuckled. I pulled away to meet his eyes as Garroth came running towards us, sword drawn. But when he saw Laurance he dropped his sword and bolted towards us and it was a group hug. Once we all pulled away they both smiled at each other. "I guess I can really call you brother now..."

"I guess," Garroth chuckled. Soon Aphmau, Liochant, Katelyn, and Dante were running down to the docks, and we joined in another group hug. Laurance seemed to be more in control, his shadow knight form seemed to have disappeared for now, the only thing it left behind was a faint echo of his voice. We all parted, and I found myself clutching my stomach, but not in a noticeable way.

"I know we all want to catch up, but we have to leave now." I announced. "We need to gather everyone who's going to be fighting and go.

"Why so suddenly?" Katelyn asked.

"I'll fill you in on our way to Gul'Rak." Garroth shrugged.

"Okay, I'll go get Travis and we can be on our way." Aphmau explained run in off. The rest of us turned back to Laurance.

"It's so nice to be back," he grinned. Garroth wrapped his arm around my waist.

"Why are you here?" Dante questioned.

"I came to fight in (Y/N)'s place-"

"Laurance, I'm not backing out of this fight. There are some things I need to do on my own-"

"I know but-"

"Mom gave me the relic... you know I can see the future. I know what's going to happen, and it doesn't scare me. It concerns me. But it doesn't scare."

"Yes, but I couldn't bare to lose you again, I'm sure Garroth understands that too."

"We talked about it..." Garroth mumbled.

"I'm fighting."

"Yeah, but by the time we get there you'll be giving birth-"

"Oh my Irene, I just realized I can speed up the travel!" I face palmed and tried not to kill myself for my stupidity. Aphmau can running back with Travis and I hurried everyone onto the boat, giving instructions for Dante to watch Aline until at least one of us returned.

Everyone headed towards the bow of the boat while Garroth, and I headed to the stern so I could speed up the moving process. "Are you sure you're ready to fight?"

"I've been ready my entire life. I knew something like this would happen. Shad was always a clever bastard, but this time we're going to rid of him for good." I replied, pursing my lips as I tried to concentrate on the water. "In a few moments I may collapse from moving such a large vessel, just help me down to the sick bay so I can sit and concentrate for a few hours."

"Okay-" my legs almost immediately gave out and the boat lurched forward and we moved at an incredible speed. He helped me walk down to the sick bay and laid me down on a cot. He moved another cot closer to mine a laid next to me as I closed my eyes to focus.

After a few hours I had to take a break from using my relic. We'd traveled at least a weeks worth of average speeds, but I could only go for so long at a time. Garroth didn't leave my side once, the entire time, clutching my hand.

I pushed myself to my feet, and notice Garroth snoring quietly, so I walked up to the deck, and was greeted by the night sky. The others were staring over the water, completely silent aside from an occasional cough. As I approached them they all turned to face me, each of them looked a little scared, and I knew that's definitely a good thing.

"Hey guys..." I mumbled, rubbing the side of my head.

"Hey..." Aphmau trailed off.

"Are you guys feeling okay?" I asked. All of them nodded glumly. "So you guys ready to fight?"

"Yes." Katelyn cracked her knuckles with an unenthusiastic smile.

"If you want to hear it from me you can, but we're going to win this... just... at a cost..."

"What's that cost?" Liochant asked, nervously.

"I don't know yet... I've been trying to figure that out... I'm so close, yet I'm not." I shook my head. "I just get the feeling one of us won't make it back..."

We all exchanged glances before turning back towards the sick bay where Garroth was resting. "Do you think..." Laurance mumbled.

"You two are always too worried about me when you should worry about yourselves..." I trailed off.

"So... we might only have these days left to ourselves, because we can never be one hundred percent sure on who's not making it back. Should we... celebrate?"

"You mean celebrate the coming of our death?" Travis tried to lighten the mood, but failed.

"I think we shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves. My predictions aren't always correct, but they aren't always wrong either. For now maybe we should just enjoy each other's company. Catch up for lost times... maybe even party," I smiled at Aphmau, who looked away sheepishly. "I know for sure that you'll make it back to your children Aphmau."

She seemed a bit relieved at those words. I noticed Katelyn, and Travis looking at their feet, but facing each other like they had something to say. Laurance and Liochant almost immediately started talking about fighting techniques and a moment later Aphmau joined in, exclaiming something about a leg sweep.

I couldn't help but smile as my hand hovered over the hidden holster by my waist. After everyone began to chat I walked back down to the sick bay and laid down next to Garroth. He immediately pulled me into his arms and I smiled sadly.

Someone wasn't going home... I knew who it was, but I was too afraid to speak it out loud. I knew who was going to die and all I knew is that it was somehow going to be my fault.

I'm almost dying thinking about how...

...I might never actually getting married to Garroth...
