Chapter: 17

"Maddie? Where are we going?"
"Somewhere, kid."
I was beginning to feel bad for Lily. She was like me in a way...hopping from foster home to foster home. I'm surprised the kid hasn't snapped and destroyed Emma for killing off the people taking care of her, and probably try to kill me for lying to her. Every time her caretaker would die, she'd just give me this look, this...hopeless look.
That's why I was going to get rid of her so she wouldn't have to suffer.
I drove along a familiar road. It was dark, but I could still recognize it. It was like driving along a lake of dried up ink and memories. We were going to where I used to live.

"You're going to love it there, Madison. It's a big home and there's plenty of kids in the neighborhood that you could make friends with!" Chirped a woman in the passenger seat, the top of her blonde head was the only thing I could see bas she went on and on about how I was going to love my new home. I simply rolled my eyes and tuned her out with my thoughts as I turned my attention to the window of the car and stared out, just watching the world fly passed me.
The place we were going to was by the woods. Which meant if I wanted to runaway, I could go there...I just had to be careful.

I sighed as I drove closer to the all too familiar neighborhood I used to live in. Ruby began to wag her tail in excitement, she must've recognized her surroundings and assumed that we were going home.
I turned the corner and entered the neighborhood. The house I used to live in was the first house anyone to enter the neighborhood would see. I pulled into the driveway and took the keys out of the car.
"Lily. This is your new home. I can't stay with you because I have to...go take care of my mom. You understand, right?"
I had hoped she would believe my lie. But, the look on her face said otherwise.
"You said you're mom died when you were young..." she muttered.
"How the fuck did she know that?"
"Uh...Lily. I never told you that." My hands began to shake in anger. Was this kid spying on me?
"Emma told me."
My eyes widened in shock. I could feel nothing but anger and betrayal slowly begin to boil in my blood.
"What...else did Emma tell you?" I asked through clenched teeth.
"She said that you became a doll once because you didn't listen to your uncle!" Lily only smiled innocently as my hands began to shake more.
"Maddie? Are you okay?"
Suddenly, my hands stopped shaking. It was like my body had just shut down and the boiling anger took over. I felt nothing; I was an empty corpse just sitting in a junky car with a 4 year old dog and a 7 year old kid in the back.
I smiled widely and chuckled to myself...but then the chuckling turned into giggling and the giggling turned into laughter.
I was laughing so hard that I was practically screaming. Lily looked terrified...which only made me laugh more.
"Oh...little Lily...you want to know a little secret?" I asked between giggles as I slowly pulled out my pocket knife and flicked the blade in place.
"Emma hasn't been so...honest with you about herself...hehe! In fact- she was going to take your soul!" I paused, turning my head to look Lily in the eyes. Her eyes were filled with fear and they were as wide as mine.
"But you know...how about I help you out?~ I kill you...and instead of getting trapped with Emma...you can go to heaven with your father!~" I cackled as Lily began to helplessly pull at the car door to try and get out, but I had locked all the doors and the windows. I raised my knife up over my head, about to plunge it into Lily's chest until I felt a sharp blow to my head and everything became blurry. Before I knew it, I had passed out, Ruby's barks and Lily's cries were the last thing I heard before everything had just disappeared.

Oof, Maddie snapped-
