Chapter 5
"I was sleeping, you jerk! Why did you need to see us?" Mina whined as she dragged her feet, moving into the big conference room that Katsuki and Izuku were already seated in.
Katsuki was fiddling with his gun, a clear threat for Izuku. Mina snapped awake when she realized this and sent looks at the rest of her team.
"What'd you do?" Jirou asked the blond, knowing that Izuku finding out was more than likely not his own fault.
"Why do you automatically assume I'm responsible?" Katsuki growled at her, shooting a glare her way. Yaoyorozu was standing behind her slightly with a note pad. She really hated going to those meetings because Katsuki was always in a bad mood, which is why the purple haired girl was standing protectively in front of her.
"Because look at him. You really expect us to believe he snooped into something like this himself?" Jirou said, pointing to the clearly shaken up Izuku.
'Well...' Izuku thought to himself.
Katsuki threw his gun on table, not seeing a point in needing it when there were currently five other armed people in the room. "The idiot ran right into me while I was being tailed. Shots were fired and he knew the guy who I left bleeding out on the side of the street." He explained shortly, cutting right to the chase.
Everyone's suspicious eyes turned to the green haired boy, who just cringed away from all the pressure.
"Well then, who the hell are you?" Sero asked, more contemplative than accusing. He didn't seem hostile in the slightest, just genuinely curious to solve the mystery in front of him.
"I-I already told you, he's just my friends cousin! I've only met him a handful of times and we barely spoke to each other. I had no clue he was caught up in any of this." Izuku hurried to explain once again, trembling in fear. He wasn't sure if he was just playing his part really well, or actually terrified. Probably the second option.
"You know, 'caught up in any of this' is a really interesting way to phrase it, almost like you know what we do." Jirou pointed out with a vague flick of her wrist as she spoke. Once again, her comment led to many suspicious gazes falling onto Izuku.
He flinched away, trying to scoot his chair back, but he was stopped by Katsuki. "Tell us who you fucking are, or we're gonna kill you anyway." He hissed at him.
Izuku contemplated his options shortly. He could stick to his story and end up dead or tortured because they clearly weren't buying. He could tell them the truth and end up dead or tortured for obvious reasons. Or, he could make up a new lie.
"F-fine, so I know about the mafia world, but I had no clue any of you guys were involved with it until tonight. A few years back I used to run around with some shady people, but I got out of it and I've been trying to distance myself for all that. Guess I've got some pretty crappy luck, huh?" He asked with a small, ironic chuckle.
"I'm not buying it." Jirou said, crossing her arms.
Mina shrugged next to her. "I don't know, I guess it would make a lot of sense. He really does seem harmless to me." She stated, making Izuku feel just a smidge of hope.
"Who did you hang around?" Kirishima asked with a small nod in Izuku's direction. He wanted to believe the smaller male, but some facts didn't seem to be adding up.
"I-I, um-" He stuttered.
Katsuki rolled his eyes, picking his gun back up. "Don't even try to lie to us, we'll figure it out on our own if we have to and then there'll be hell to pay."
Izuku's eyes blew wide at the threat. "T-Todoroki, Shoto Todoroki. I haven't talked to him in years though!" He lied once again.
"Oh fuck no, put a bullet in his head and get it over with." Sero said, holding his hands up and back away from the group slightly.
Izuku mocked ignorance. "Wh-what? Why? But I didn't-"
"Do you know who Shoto Todoroki is? Do you have any idea what you've done by working here?" Tokoyami spoke up for the first time. His arms were crossed and his face held a somber expression as he talked, clearly not liking the situation.
"I know he's dangerous, but I didn't get a whole lot of specifics." Izuku, once again, lied straight to them. He needed to bullshit his way out of this and then hightail it back to Todoroki if he wanted to survive.
"Bullshit. There's no way you could have ran around with Todoroki and never learned who he was. Why're you lying?" Katsuki growled at him.
'Dear lord, if Shinso doesn't get Shoto here before I die, I'm gonna haunt his ass for eternity.' Izuku cursed to himself.
"I-I'm not- I wasn't close or anything- I didn't really- I'm not sure-" Izuku was a stuttering mess, not sure what else to say to get himself out of his predicament.
Until Mina spoke up with a wicked grin.
"Specifically saying that you weren't close, that raises a few red flags. We never said you were close, just that you ran around with his gang." She said, staring pointedly at Izuku as his face started to turn red. He had a good idea where she was going with her train of thought.
"Please don't." He whispered, but it was loud enough for everyone to hear him.
"I mean, it would explain why you were so reluctant to tell us who you were with. If word got out, his reputation would be completely shattered." She continued, obviously ignoring his plead.
"Mina, what're you playing at?" Tokoyami asked, his brows furrowed in confusion.
"Please, just stop." Izuku said, burying his head in his hands. If she outed him like this, there was no telling what their reactions would be. He'd still probably end up dead.
"Mina?" Jirou asked her.
"Remember last year when everyone was working themselves to the bone trying to find out who Todoroki's mystery girl was so we could use her as leverage?" She asked, not clearing up anyone's confusion.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Kirishima asked her.
Mina pointed at Izuku with a broad smile. "Welp, we found her."
