Chapter 17
"They... cauterized his wound?" Mina asked in slight shock. It was a few hours later, everyone was back and the 'excitement' had died down. Izuku had finally gotten cleaned up and was tucked away in Katsuki's room. The high ups of the mafia could finally discuss what had happened and what they were going to do about it. They might have only known Izuku for roughly a week, but they were already attached to the sassy and kind boy.
"Deku said they did it just in case we didn't find him until morning. They didn't want him bleeding to death." Katsuki said in a tired voice, dragging a hand down his face as he squinted against the harsh kitchen light. It was late and he was drained. He almost just wanted to wait for morning to have this conversation, but he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep if he didn't figure out a game plan right then and there.
Sero shook his head at the new information. "Anyone else find that kind of fucked up? Like they beat the shit out of him, but they needed him to stay alive for what? To make him suffer like that through the night?"
Kirishima held his dull gaze on the floor, also exhausted from the night, Kaminari next to him with his arms wrapped around his waist. "It's the mafia, Sero. You've done worse." He pointed out blandly.
They all became quiet as they mulled over Kirishima's words.
The electric blond in his arms shook his head in defiance a few moments later. "No, we're different. We don't target innocent people that haven't done anything to us. Everyone we hurt, we hurt for a reason." Kaminari tried to reason.
Kirishima pinched the bridge of his nose at that. "No Denki, we aren't different. If one of our guys ran and joined up with Todoroki, we'd do the exact same thing. We'd probably end up killing them."
He knew that Kaminari was just trying to make everyone feel better after what he had morbidly pointed out, but he didn't want them to feel better. They were all terrible people and they had the audacity to actually think Todoroki had done something unseenly, when they would turn around and do the exact same thing in his position. They were just a bunch of hypocrites with bloodlust.
"Wanna know the fuck difference shitty hair? Seeing as you seemed to have decided that we're all shit human beings." Katsuki spoke up, the exhaustion briefly gone from his voice as it was overtaken by anger.
The redhead just looked up at him, not really expecting a good answer. He didn't think there could be a good answer, let alone that Katsuki would come up with it. He didn't exactly travel the moral high road.
"The fuck differnce is," Katsuki said, pushing himself off the counter so he could walk closer to Kirishima. That was when the redhead realized that he probably fucked up. "Is that Deku's in love with the sick bastard who did that to him. If Kaminari jumped ship tomorrow and joined up with the halfie, would you be willing to put him through what Deku went through? Would you be able to live with yourself if you're the one who ordered for us to beat the ever loving shit out of him and then leave him somewhere to freeze his ass off until someone maybe showed up?" Katsuki asked, his blazing red eyes glaring daggers right into Kirishima's.
As soon as his Katsuki's words stopped, Kirishima answered him. He shook his head, "Of course not."
Katsuki backed off of him after hearing his answer. "Then there you go, that's where we differ." Then he moved back over to the counter, pushing himself back up on it.
"So what're we going to do?" Jirou asked. She was sitting at the kitchen table with Yaoyorozu, Mina, Sero, and Tokoyami.
Katsuki shook his head, locking his eyes on the dirty kitchen floor in front of him. "I'm not sure yet. We don't know enough about Todoroki to really try anything. For now, we just stay vigilant and make sure someone's with Deku at all times, got it?" He asked, finally looking up at his... employees? Associates? Friends fits the best, not that he'd admit it out loud.
Everyone nodded their heads in agreement.
"Great, now go the fuck to bed. You're all exhausted." He ordered and no one needed to be told twice.
"I knew you cared!" Mina called after her as she walked out of the kitchen with everyone else.
"Like hell!" Katsuki called back, but he had a small smile on his face.
Once he was sure everyone was gone and in their rooms, he made his way to his own. He tried to open the door as quietly as possible, to not wake Izuku, but as soon as the door was open the shorter man sat bolt upright and flicked on the lamp next to the bed.
"Hey, hey, it's just me. Calm down." Katsuki said, easily catching the panic in Izuku's face.
It was quickly replaced with relief when he saw the blond instead of the purple haired man that would no doubt haunt his dreams for weeks. "I-I'm sorry, I just didn't-"
Katsuki cut off his apology quickly. "Don't apologize, you didn't do anything wrong. You're really shaken up right now, I should have knocked or something, just thought you would be asleep." He muttered the last part, not really meaning for the other to hear it.
He walked in, going over to his desk. Katsuki knew he probably wouldn't be getting any sort of sleep that night, even if they had a shaky plan of action now. His nerves were just too wired to let him sleep.
"I- um, I wanted to sleep, I'm exhausted, but I just can't." Izuku admitted, a faint blush appearing on his face, but it was nearly invisible in the dim light of the room.
Katsuki 's eyes subconsciously softened upon hearing the confession. Instead of just staring at a few papers and pretending like he was actually going to be able to get work done, he abandoned his desk and went over to the bed. He crawled in on the other side of Izuku, confusing the tired male.
"What're you-" He went to ask, but Katsuki wrapped his arms around his waist and pulled him close.
"Just try to get some sleep, you really fucking need it, nerd." Katsuki said, allowing himself to bury his head into Izuku's green curls.
"Oh, um, I- Okay." Izuku said awkwardly. This isn't exactly what he expected from the jerk mafia leader. He had definitely been getting better over the week they've roomed together, but this was definitely new.
"Deku, chill. I can feel your heartbeat. I'm not gonna hurt you or let anyone else get to you, okay? Just try to relax and get some sleep." Katsuki said, being able to feel Izuku's erratic heartbeat against his own chest.
Izuku took a few deep breaths before slightly nodding and mumbling out, "Okay, Kacchan. I trust you."
