Jarvis jumped slightly, quickly calming down to not startle Peter in his arms. He glared at the warning he received. Director Fury. Of course. All he wanted to do was shut off for a bit while cuddling Peter to his chest before the rest got home.
Jarvis quickly but quietly moved to put Peter in the nursery. "Please stay asleep, this would be horrendous if you woke up." The blond muttered, tucking him in before leaving, locking the door behind him.
He fixed his suit and stood in the main room, waiting for the man to come in. "Jarvis." He turned and smiled politely at the man.
"Director Fury, I hope you are doing well. What brings you here?" Jarvis asked. He subconsciously puts himself between Peter’s hallway and Fury.
"Where's Stark?" The man asked. "He has something dangerous and I need to speak to him about it." Jarvis side glanced at the window, the familiar face of Maria Hill catching his eye. A quick scan showed a few more agents hidden in the street.
"Mr. Stark hasn't created nor found anything recently that could be considered dangerous," Jarvis informed Fury.
"What about an eight-month-old baby?" The director watched the android carefully for any sort of indication or hint of where the kid was hidden.
"A baby?" Jarvis questioned, raising an eyebrow. "If you don't mind me asking, Director, how is a baby dangerous?"
"It's not a normal human baby, its DNA is enhanced. Now I need to know where it is." Nick told the blond, slightly frustrated at the lack of response.
"I truly am sorry to disappoint you, Director, but Sir hasn't found a child." Fury frowned and stepped closer.
"I think you're forgetting that I can look into records. I know Tony adopted a kid." Jarvis resisted the urge to sigh in frustration.
"If you already knew, then why ask?" He kept a close eye on the director. He knew Fury liked secrecy but he wouldn't stand for it this time. Not when it concerned Peter.
Fury eyed him carefully. "Have you noticed anything strange with the kid? Any powers?" Jarvis' eyebrows raised in surprise. "Guess not then. Maybe he wasn't affected."
"If you don't mind me asking, Director, what exactly didn't affect Peter?" Fury took his time sitting on a chair, leaning back and relaxing in his seat. "Why didn't you come by when Mr. Stark was here?"
"Oscorp has been working with altering DNA. They picked random people to seduce and the products of these one-night stands became test subjects." Jarvis tensed at the words. "Stark was on that list. We believe that the kid he found was purposely placed in the alleyway."
Jarvis knew Peter wasn't a threat. He was only a baby. He was defenseless and he loved everyone around him. "Peter is not a danger to Mr. Stark."
"That's not what we're worried about." Fury answered calmly. "The test subjects were being prepared to be injected or bitten by some radioactive animal. They wanted to see if human DNA could be mutated and if so what would happen. We wanted to take the kid in for testing."
"I will not allow that," Jarvis answered quickly. His chest filled with a protective urge to grab Peter and hold him, keep him away from danger. There was no way Tony would forgive him if he allowed SHIELD to take his baby.
"I don't think that will be a problem. The other subjects were collected and only three of the five subjects survived the testing. They already show a lot of progress in their powers. Tony's kid must have been rescued before they could finish."
Fury got up, walking back to the elevator. "Contact me if anything changes." He told him. "And let's keep this from Stark. There's nothing for him to worry about and no reason to put the kid at risk." Jarvis picked up on the darker meaning of the words.
"Of course, Director. Have a good day." He grits out. Jarvis stood in the now empty common room, mind racing.
