willie was dragging alex by the hand and leading him to a movie theater. "come on hotdog, it's just a movie!" the skater cracked a smile at his boyfriend, god did he love being able to call the gorgeous blonde next to him his boyfriend.
"i know it's just a movie, but we're still sneaking into a movie," alex explained, lacing his fingers tighter with his boyfriend.
willie laughed as he pulled on the drummer's wrist slightly. "oh come on! how is this worse than sneaking into a museum?"
alex thought about it for barely two seconds before counting off his points on his fingers, "well first of all the museum was basically empty and this theater is packed, we wouldn't have had to pay for the museum if we were alive but we would have to pay for this movie, and also sneaking into an empty museum is not nearly as scary as a movie theater full of lifers."
the two stood there for a moment staring at each other before willie shook his head and chuckled, "come one hot dog, i promise you no lifers will notice us in there. if they do pass through us they'll just think it's 'movie theater cold'; and if you're worried about choosing a seat and then getting sat on then we can wait until the last person goes in and choose our seats."
the drummer smiled and grabbed willie's hand. the other ghost always knew how to calm his anxieties and almost always knew what he was going to be anxious about.
the two ended up waiting until everyone else was in the theater (alex checked about three times before deciding they could officially go in) and then sat in one of the back rows, which were essentially empty.
"hey-" willie said in his normal speaking voice, "the nice thing about seeing movies as a ghost is that you can talk normally and not have to worry about anyone hearing you."
a small smile flickered on alex's face as he fiddled with one of willie's bracelets, "a not so nice thing about seeing movies as ghosts is that we can't share popcorn."
willie could practically feel the annoyance dripping from the drummer's words, himself a bit annoyed with the reminder that they weren't alive and couldn't do stupid lifer things- like freaking out when their hands met in the popcorn bucket.
"well if you're upset because you can't do the corny 'oops my hand brushed against yours in the popcorn bucket maybe i should hold it now' thing, you know you can just hold my hand without needing a reason."
alex rolled his eyes playfully and then he smiled as his cheeks went rosy. alex let his hand slip from playing with willie's bracelets to holding the skater's hand and leaned against him. "what is this movie anyway?"
yes, alex had agreed to see a movie with willie before asking what movie they were seeing. no, alex didn't really care as long as he was with willie.
"oh it's called five feet apart. it's about a girl who's in the hospital for cystic fibrosis and she meets a guy who also has cf and they start falling for each other. but when you have cystic fibrosis you have to stay 6 feet away from other cf patients so you don't catch the other's infection."
"cystic fibrosis is the uh... the like lung disease right?" alex's eyebrows raised as he held on to willie a bit tighter. the skater just hummed in response.

there wasn't much alex remembered from the movie aside from a few moments.
when it first started he kept the pda down to a minimum, just holding hands and keeping his eyes intently on the screen.
when he heard the name of the main characters he immediately turned to his boyfriend.
"so you chose a movie where the main character shares a name with you?"
willie just laughed in response and shook his head, "it was unintentional."
alex immediately smiled when poe's sexuality was mentioned. willie had shown him other movies that had gay characters but none of them had a big of a part as poe.
then poe died. alex clutched into willie's hand tighter, fingers almost digging into the other ghost's had, and alex's other hand flying to his own mouth to contain a sob.
willie instinctively pulled alex closer to him and moved his boyfriends hand from his face, pressing a soft kiss to the back of it. "it's ok baby, it's ok."
alex just nodded and moved closer to willie as a few tears fell.
the next thing alex new his anxiety was sky rocketing. all he could think was "please don't fall in the water. the ice is gonna break move! please move!" of course the characters didn't listen and his heart wrenched.
more and more tears fell as the final scene drew to a close. at this point alex was almost completely buried into willie's shoulder, just able to see the screen. he was certain the skater's hoodie would be tear stained and that his own eyes would be bloodshot from the crying.
the credits rolled and the music just caused alex to cry more. willie tried to coax him to standing so they could poof out, but alex just shook his head and held the boy close as everyone left the theater and the movie completely ended. the room was pitch black when alex spoke again, his head tucked under willie's chin.
"thank you," the statement was hardly a whisper. willie narrowly caught it.
"for what?"
alex moved his head from under willie's chin, wiping away tears with his sleeve. "for letting me cry and for holding me while i did. it's not something i got much in the 90s. the guys would help me through panic attacks and stuff but for 25 years in that dark room neither of them did anything to help me while i cried."
"hey," willie wiped away another tear that fell as alex spoke and left his hand on the boy's cheek, "i'm right here and i plan to stay. do you think you're ready to get back to the studio?"
alex nodded and the two boys poofed outside the studio a few moments later. alex turned to look at willie again, and then noticed the tear tracks on the skater's cheeks and the redness in his eyes. alex gave him a sad smile and then kissed his cheek.
"i had a good time, even if we both cried a bit."
willie smiled as well, "i had a good time too. next time we sneak into a theater i'll make sure it's not as sad."
"you chose it just 'cause you knew i'd cry, didn't you?" alex joked as he held the skater's hands.
"honestly i didn't know it was that sad. it came out last year and i never got the chance to see it, and then i saw they were playing it again i figured we could go together and if we both hated it we could leave."
alex laughed and shook his head as he smiled. "well thank you for taking me. it was good, sad, but good."
willie nodded and the two stood there for a few seconds before willie laughed.
"what?"
"nothing, just thinking about how fun movie night would be with the whole band."
alex thought about it and then giggled as well, "oh my god we have to do that sometime. just not with star wars because reggie would talk too much to focus." both boys laughed at the statement before alex chimed in again, "i'll talk it over with the band but i know we're all supposed to be free after our gig next friday and then hopefully into sunday. we could do like a movie marathon of stuff like, reg, and i missed, if you want to of course."
willie smiled at his boyfriend's excitement. "of course i want to! talk it over with the band, for now i have to go." willie pulled alex in for a hug, which his boyfriend happily accepted, and then moved away slowly.
"actually," he turned back to alex, "could i give you a goodbye kiss?"
alex's grin grew as he nodded happily.
the kiss was quick and sweet, the two ghost ships happiness holding onto each other for a moment longer.
"good night hot dog."
"good night."

(A/N just a v quick author's note: who would be interested in a second part where the whole band watches a bunch of movies from 1996 up to 2020 and if so what movies should they watch?)
