ONE
I don't own the characters
It had always been pushed into Percy's mind that demigods didn't live long enough to settle down, so now when she truly saw it before her she didn't really know what to do. She'd never thought about it. No, she didn't want to think about things that would never happen. That only leads to disappointment.
Percy really did want to settle down and all that jazz and nothing was really holding her back. She was already in the middle of it. She and Roy lived together in an apartment, they both had jobs and it seemed that they didn't go on patrol as often. Surprisingly, she was more mature. But that was to be expected.
She still couldn't believe it had been so long since the Second Giant War. It had been eight years. It had been around seven and a half years ago she'd met Roy, which also was unbelievable.
Throughout the last eight years, the thought of settling down had grown, and now it was there. In her mind. And she couldn't stop thinking about it! Having her own children, starting a family. The thought seemed to be etched into her mind. She couldn't escape it and she wondered if the same thing was happening with Roy. Was he also thinking about it?
—
"Thank god it's Friday," Percy muttered to herself as she dug through her pocket, trying to find her keys. She found them and unlocked the apartment which Percy and Roy had bought after they finished college.
She opened the wooden door and then closed it once she'd stepped into the apartment. Roy wasn't home yet, though he would be coming home soon.
Percy sat down on the couch and looked at the black screen of the TV. It wasn't on, and Percy didn't feel like reaching for the remote. So she just sat there and stared at the empty screen.
She could only sit there for a minute or two before her ADHD got the best of her. Percy looked over at a large cardboard box which stood in one of the corners of the living room. Roy has brought it home one day and told her it was a surprise for her. Percy hadn't opened it, it was a surprise after all. It was hard not to let her curiosity get the best of her.
She wondered when the two of them would open it. She hoped it was sooner rather than later.
She walked up to the box in an attempt to guess what it held. It didn't smell, but had she really expected it to smell? She looked at the white sticker on the box, which was rather large. She tried to read what stood upon it, but in the end, she gave up. She narrowed her sea-green eyes at the box as she continued to guess what possibly could be in there.
Percy just shook her head and muttered a few words under her breath. She walked away from the box and just then did the door open. Roy walked into the apartment with another box. The top of the box was open and small scratching noises came from it.
Percy turned on her heels to face him and her eyes furrowed in confusion as she heard the scratching noise. "That's not a monster, is it? You're not that stupid."
"No, it's not a monster," Roy laughed.
Percy narrowed her eyes. "Well, what is it?"
Roy smirked and put down the cardboard box. The scratching noise continued. It didn't sound like a monster, the noise was much softer. Then she heard a yelp. But one of an animal, not one of a human or a monster. Suddenly a dog popped up, only a part of his head passing the box's walls,
"Oh my gods," Percy said and walked up to the box. She looked inside the box and saw the small dog, looking up at her. It's wide brown eyes radiated innocence, and she or he was just adorable.
Percy took the dog out of the box and tired her best to hold it, not knowing how to. Its fur was a cream color with a few darker shades mixed in the fur. The dog was pretty small and just adorable.
"Oh my gods," she repeated, and looked up at Roy. His blue eyes were looking into hers. His smile matching her wide one.
"Surprise," he said.
Percy put the dog down onto the floor and jumped into his arms. This was better than anything she could've expected.
"So, you like him?" Roy asked.
"Of course I do, Roy," Percy said, still in his embrace.
"But not more than me, right?" He joked.
"Hmm, I'll have to think about that," Percy said, and they both laughed.
Percy gave him a quick kiss and then retreated from the said embrace and sat down beside the dog. Roy walked over and sat down next to her.
"What're we naming him?" Percy asked.
"I don't know," Roy said. "You're the more creative one."
"Oh, am I?" Percy retorted. "Why thank you."
Roy pulled out his phone and then searched on something. Percy watched the dog play as Roy tried to find a list of dog names.
"What about Cooper?" Roy asked.
"I don't know," Percy said. "What are some of the other names?"
"Peanut, Oreo, Rufus, Benny, Hank, Ace, Apollo, Jake, Luke, and some more," Roy said and looked up from the device.
"I like Luke," Percy said.
Roy nodded. "I do too."
And so it was decided and the dog was named Luke.
Okay. So the first chapter of the rewrite. What do you think?
I know the characters are out of characters, but that's just how it is. They're older now, they're more mature. So yeah.
I want this story enjoyable for me to write, but also enjoyable to read. So if you have anything you want to see happen, just comment or something.
