Chapter 18

(y/n)

"(y/n)...? You awake..?"

My body didn't move. My eyes slightly rolled to the left to look at the voice's owner but no movement to show the intention of caring.

Footsteps quietly walked to the bed before the springs compressed under a second weight. A cool hand touched my bare skin, my shoulder twitching lightly at the touch. Head following the gaze of eyes, we looked at each other in complete silence before I spoke:

"I'm awake..." My voice felt empty, no feeling attached behind it. My eyes dropped, unable to reconnect contact with his gentle look.

"(n/n)..." His hand slowly reached underneath my head, pointer finger touching the bone of my chin, the energy exerted overcame the gravitational energy, my head lifting to be symmetrical with his. His head leaned towards mine, becoming above mine as his soft lips touched my forehead, then his forehead touched mine as our noses connected and eyes closed softly. At least, mine did.

Having your eyes closed keeps you from knowing if he had his closed as well. My eyes opened to see if he felt the same, and his eyes were looking at mine. I snorted, moving my head back in a sharp giggle, pulling myself close to him again. His chuckle warmed the stale air, my heart enveloping this as if a breath of fresh air.

"What's so funny?" His lips curled into a grander smile as he spoke, eyes never leaving my face as his smile grew more gentle and controlled.

"Just the cliche being thrown away." I softly said.

His brow raised as he shifted, his body gently over me, holding his arms behind my back to keep me where I was, my arms staying under his arms and connecting together on the fourth vertebrae of his spine. He then lifted me gently up, both of our bodies in a sitting position. I looked down as my head rolled in a circular motion, legs straddling his body before I leaned against his chest, my head resting on his collarbone.

"What's going through your mind right now..?" He asked, his hand reaching up to touch my head, lightly pulling his fingers through clumps of my hair, ridding it of knots and bumps.

I sighed quietly, looking at the mirror.

It's been a week since the last murder vision. Ever since, Melissa hasn't talked. She hasn't appeared, not in a dream nor in front of me.

The mirror reflected light. Nothing was there other than the appearance of Garroth and I, sitting quietly. His eyes looked at the mirror, drawing to mine before he turned his head to look at my head. He softly sighed, not in exasperation, not in disappointment, but in comfort, kissing my head gently, his hand stopping in the middle of my back.

"Melissa's gone..." I whispered. I couldn't look at the mirror anymore as tears crowded my eyes. I look awful crying...

He set his chin on my head, pulling me closer, "I know..."

I tried to stifle a sob, choking it down. All that happened was my throat caught and I coughed, loud and hard, my throat scratched by the violence. I moved my head, burying it into the folds of his shirt. It didn't stop, my cries just going muffled into his shirt.

"Hey..hey.." He soothed, rubbing my back as he sat up, pulling me close to him. My cries just continued. She's been around for years. She's gone now.

I wasn't ready...

Time passed by without my realization of it until a knock came from somewhere. I opened my eyes sleepily, looking up from his shoulder. He gently looked down and kissed my forehead before getting up. My body automatically laid back down as he walked away, my mind just out of it.

With the door left open, the voices of the visitor and Garroth were clear and echoed from the front.

"Sir, she's not here."

My head shot up. I got off of the bed and backed up to the wall.

"This is her residence. And I have not seen any movement for the last two days. Where is she." The voice was grudd before I heard shuffling.

"Sir, don't make me call security. I said she was not here. Now leave." Garroth's voice took on a tone.

I freaked out. My heart raced as my eyes scattered across the room.

Footsteps moved. "No. I own the building. I'm finding her."

I backed up to the corner furthest away from the door. My eyes flickered to the open window before I ran over to it, and climbed out, closing it as fast as I could behind me.

The ledge was small. The ball of my foot with my toes fit only, unable to put my whole foot down without being seen. Tears ran down my face.

"This is an invasion of privacy!" I heard Garroth argue.

"Oh hush it, Ro'Meave!"

Footsteps seemed to come closer. Some were heavy, others were light. The shuffling of objects were moving around before I heard the sound of my phone getting set down.

The window shuffled. I scooted as far as I could to the side, holding my breath as it opened. The man's head, a black hat and black coated shoulders stuck out. He looked down, to the side opposite of me, and above before he stuck his head back in and walked away.

There was a sound of something get thrown before an angry groan.

"When she ..... back. ... will notify me .. once." The man's muffled voice became hard to decipher as the receding thuds of steps went out of the area.

Garroth's sigh was heavy before he came back in the room. He looked around before he got confused. Footsteps left the room again before I heard the slam of a door.

I gasped, startled, almost falling off. I instantly started crying again, afraid of the height. Adrenaline didn't let it occur to me that I was 3 stories up. A thirty-eight foot drop.

A pair of rushed steps came back and I freaked out, thinking he came back. This time, the window opened more and a mop of golden blonde hair popped out. He looked to the other side before seeing me. Tears fell quickly down my face, my legs shaking as he reached out his hand. My way back in was led by his hand, him pulling me close once I had a real floor underneath my feet.

"I'm sorry..." He whispered gently.

"I.." I can't handle this right now...

----

"Where's the tape at?"

My eyes glazed over the room. I frowned, unable to find it. "I don't know.. It should be here."

"It's somewhere around here." A gentle hand touched my shoulder. I slowly stood, turning over my shoulder to face him. He quietly continued, "We'll find it tomorrow."

I gently nodded, looking down at the floor. I glanced around the room again before moving close to him. Everything felt suspicious. It was hot and stale, but I didn't want to leave the windows open. I didn't want the man to come back.

He sounded so familiar. I couldn't think of his voice or face without goosebumps crossing my skin.

Garroth gently rubbed my arm, my eyes flickering down to see before back up at his face. His eyes looked to mine before looking over my face. His lips parted, a breath drawing in.

"Want to stay with me tonight? In case something happens?" He asked, his hand not leaving my arm, my muscles relaxing with his touch.

My head nodded in agreement as I started to move, breaking the connection of his hand and my arm. I slowly walked down the hall to my bedroom to change.

"(y/n)?" His voice was soft, my surprise as he got my attention. I turned again to face him, seeing him come up to me.

"Ye-" Rather than him stop, his hand went under my chin and he bent over, gently kissing my lips and closing his eyes as I stood in surprise. I softly closed my eyes, gently returning. It was a moment before he pulled away, us opening our eyes to look at one another.

"What was that for..?" I asked, my hand gently grabbing onto his as he grabbed mine.

"Just...from how uptight the last couple days have been..." He looked at me, "I've realized I don't show you how much I love you."

I gently tilted my head, "What makes you think that?" I asked. My eyes didn't want to leave his face, watching how he prepared to say what he meant. I pulled his hand up to be more level with our arms. He gently looked down as he took my other hand. His eyes focused down, following where he led our hands. I looked down as well as he held each pair together.

"(y/n), I-"

His hands were warm as he set my right hand on top of my left, his right under my left, and his left setting itself on top of my right. He looked up to me.

"I never, never. Want you to be hurt because of me. Including a man like the one yesterday." He looked into my eyes as I was nervous of where he was leading this to.

"Are you okay with me staying..?" He asked.

I tilted my head and let out a half laugh, confused. "Why wouldn't I be?"

He gently looked at me, "With everything going on? With that man and your father's business? We need to find an end to it... soon."

I looked down slightly, watching the Adam's apple in his throat move as he got tense.

"I-I'm sorry. I-"

My eyes looked back up at his. He looked at me as he bit his lip.

"You want to go adventuring? Instead of stopping me from doing that?"

His nervous look morphed into a smile. His smile made my lips curl more than they previously were. "What do you say?"

I gently smiled more, looking at his hands and mine, moving to hold his firmly. I looked back up to him, "As long as you're ready."

He chuckled, "With you."

I giggled, looking back down and back up. "Is there anything else you want to do? Or say?"

He chuckled, "Well, one more thing to say..related to a previous topic." He shifted from his left to his right, our hands falling down from one another's.

I stood on his toes, matched his height, and wrapped my hands to lock behind his neck.

"You thinking what I'm thinking? Mr. I'm gonna come running down the hall to kiss you."

He smiled, his hands going to my waist, "Maybe. Only if you want to."

My lips curled up into a smile. I looked down and back up, him leaning forward and touching his forehead to mine.

I smiled softly, "I love you."

He grinned as he pressed his lips to mine, moving his arms around my back. I smiled as we stood there kissing before he pulled away.

"I love you too."

----

The fan quietly flew in its circle, the sound of air sweeping itself in motion was calming.

I quietly laid there, my hand tracing circles through Garroth's hair, tangling my finger in it for me to pull away and start again.

He held on gently in a hug, his head next to my stomach as his hands were up on the small of my back. I closed my eyes and set my head back on the pillow, trying to fall back asleep.

The bed creaked lightly when we breathed, any shift it would creak more. The soft glow of the night light plugged into the wall gave off such a soft glow that it felt more and more comforting. I closed my eyes again, sleep beginning to droll back to me.

Something fell in the darkness. It was soft, but then the next was a hard thud.

I gasped awake as my eyes shot open. Garroth sat up, alert quicker than I was. He looked down at me as he was up. We both paused, listening for another noise.

Nothing followed. He set his head back down above mine, pulling my body close to his as he shielded me from the door, pulling the covers up.

Crash

He shot his head towards the door as I looked up at him. I grabbed onto his shirt, pulling my body closer than before, more than I thought was possible.

A loud whack followed before the creaking of floorboards came fast receding.

Garroth leapt out of bed and went out of the room, grabbing his belt off the doorknob.

I heard his steps stop before he gasped. My eyes widened before I walked out to where he was.

The front entrance had the lock smashed to no tomorrow. The door by the knob was shredded. The kitchen light behind us illuminated the scene.

"Well, the tape was found." Garroth walked over to the coffee table, picking up a drawer.

"But someone has it now.."

I screamed at the contents left inside.

The drawer had the golden fredbear plush, blood dripping from the eyes and throat.
