xii. | this dinner tastes quite deadish

chapter 12

Your talk'll be somethin' that shouldn't be said out loud
Honestly, I thought that I would be dead by now
Bury the hatchet or bury your friend right now
For the debt I owe, gotta sell my soul

"Hide your shit!" Jade shouted into the phone, her free hand shuffling through boxes that had finally arrived in Mystic Falls from New Orleans. Cami, you are the ultimate angel.

"What?" Katherine barked on the other side of the line, clear confusion audible in her voice.

Oh, yeah. Jade gave Katherine her old phone.

What? Jade couldn't sit with her every day, and she knew that if she were the one trapped in a can of cobblestone with no way out, she was sure she would go crazy from boredom. Besides, she liked to talk with her forbidden vampire friend.

"Hide your shit." Jade repeated herself, pulling some jeans out of the box and checking them. "Bad Salvatore is on his way to pay you a visit."

"What the hell does he want?" Katherine asked right away, her voice sharp and already annoyed.

Jade groaned, throwing some clothes on her bed. "How the fuck would I know? Just hide everything somehow, without lights it won't be visible anyway. Well, and it's not like he's going there with an inspection of your residential comfort." She said, putting the jeans on with one hand.

"And what about that I'm not dried to a chip, but beautiful as ever?" Katherine inquired, skepticism in her voice.

Jade rolled her eyes. "It's Damon, Kat. Not fucking Sherlock Holmes. Just throw some hair over your face and act dead."

"Alrighty then, I'll try." Katherine replied, emphasizing the last word.

"Yeah, you better fucking try. If he finds out, he won't tell me shit anymore. And you know how I feel about being out of the loop." Jade growled into the phone, which she set on speaker and placed on the bed.

"'Kay, 'kay. Don't worry, J. Don't you know who you're talking to?" The vampire asked, and Jade could hear her smirk through the phone at that moment.

Jade rolled her eyes again, throwing on a red and black oversized striped sweater. "Rrrright. I'll be there when he leaves. See ya then." She chriped.

"Toddles." Katherine sang and ended the call.

Jade sighed, throwing the rest of her clothes into the closet and making a mental note to thank Cami later. Doing a quick makeup and making sure all her rings were in place, the girl left the house, heading toward the Mystic Falls forest.

As Jade walked, she came across a crossroads. One leading deep into the forest, to Katherine's tomb, and the other to the ruins of the Fell house. She stopped, her gaze focused on the familiar path. Sighing and pulling a cigarette from her pack in her pocket, she turned into the latter. She still has some time before Damon decides to leave Katherine, so why not torture herself a bit. It makes you feel alive, doesn't it?

Entering the building through her made entrance through a broken window, the girl immediately headed to their room. Pushing open the brass door, this time stepping back slightly, avoiding the falling plaster, she stepped inside. Jade sighed, taking a mighty drag from her cigarette, and walked over to the previously pushed back couch and sat down on its armrest.

"Where are you, huh?" She muttered, the cigarette between her red lips muffling her words. Focusing her gaze on the empty blood bags, she began to imagine her childhood best friend as a creature of the night. Was she a good vampire and drank from the bags? Or took straight from the vein, not caring about her victim's pain? Probably the latter, knowing Vicki.

Or not knowing.

Jade bit her lower lip, unable to stop herself from thinking that since Vicki now faces an eternity, maybe, just maybe, someday she will come back and... forgive her? What a selfish thought.

Jade sighed, finishing her cigarette and tossing it into a nearby ashtray. In one firm motion, she moved the couch back into place, covering the bags with it. As she approached the door, she turned her head slightly toward the empty room. "Till we meet again." She muttered, the corners of her mouth twitching upward slightly. The next thing that could be heard was a loud slam of the door.

She quickly returned to her original path, following it for a while, although the closer she got to the tomb, the more careful she had to be. Also, she left the path a bit and trudged through the bushes, a grimace twisting on her face. "What has my life come to?" Jade muttered under her breath, her eyes frantically scanning for any bugs she could catch.

After waiting a moment, the dark hair of a well-known vampire appeared to Jade's eyes. Hiding in the tall bushes, Jade made sure he left for good and finally entered through the stone gates.

"I'm here. Your day just got a lot better. You're welcome." Jade chirped with smile, leaning against a stone wall, her gaze focused into the candle-lighting vampire.

"Oh, how lucky I am." Katherine muttered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "But not as lucky as you, I just pulled an award winning performance."

"Did you, now? What the hell did he want?" Jade asked, tilting her head to the side.

"I'm surpised you don't know, actually. Did he mentioned a word dagger to you lately?" Katherine asked, raising an eyebrow.

"No, he did not..." Jade frowned, suspicious. "Care to elaborate?"

"He told me that John Gilbert had returned to town." Jade let out an exaggareted groan, throwing her head back. "And that he had sold him an idea of how to kill an Original vampire."

Jade's head snapped towards smirking Katherine, her eyebrows creased. How did Elijah knew? She sat down on the bench next to her, her face still contorted into a grimace. "I thought Originals were unkillable?"

Katherine's smile only deepened at this question. She began to nod, which only multiplied Jade's confusion. "Because they are. The dagger mentioned earlier just puts them in a comatose state. They're dead but they're also not at the same time."" She explained. "And John gave that dagger to Damon."

"Wait." Jade's eyes shot to Katherine, a look of realization on her face. "You'll be free, right? The compulsion will break if he dies, you told me this before."

With a face full of self-satisfaction, Katherine smirked mischievously. "And I told Damon the other way around."

"So there is one hundred percent certainty that he'll do it." Jade muttered, her confused look slowly mirroring Katherine's smug one. "Pierce, I bow to you." She smiled with a little shake of her head.

Katherine sighed, clicking her tongue. "No need. If he uses it, he'll die."

Jade's eyebrows momentarily jumped to her hairline, hiding under her bangs. "Die... like die, die?" She asked, her face slightly scrunched. She didn't love the elder Salvatore. But to immediately wish him dead? A bit rash, but on the other hand, she didn't feel too much guilt.

"Yup. Only a human can use it and come out unharmed." Katherine explained, looking in the distance, a ghost of guilt crossing her facial features.

"Fuck." Jade murmured, flashing her eyebrows and sighing.

"Fuck, indeed." The vampire echoed. "But as far as he or I are concerned? The choice is obvious." She said with a shrug and turned to Jade, her expression hardened. "You better don't even breathe a word about it, Jade." She pointed at her with her finger, voice threatening.

"Your trust issues match my own sometimes. I won't, calm your tits." Jade pushed the expanded finger out of her face with an eyeroll. "Let's just hope he doesn't act recklessly." She said and Katherine responded with a grimace, her eyebrows raised sceptically.

"I just heard it." Jade said, as she heard her own words coming back to her. "Wait, so if they shish kebab Elijah, it's over? He'll be a vegetable forever? That sounds too fucking easy."

Katherine's face broke into a wicked grin, her eyes full of pride. "I just love how your brain works, my little J." Jade raised her eyebrow at that. "If they remove the dagger from his body, he will rise and shine like a newborn baby." Katherine answered her question with nonchalancy.

A slow, devilish smile started creeping on Jade's face. "Interesting... and very much in my favour."

Katherine furrowed her eyebrows, and Jade elaborated. "I've made a deal with Elijah and... let's just say I've found a perfect loophole right now." She said, a smug expression crossing her face.

Katherine face transformed into an alarmed one in a blink. "What is the deal about? Jade, listen to me━"

"━Oh, would you chill? The deal is simple. Protection for protection." Jade said, and the vampire raised her eyebrows. "But tell me, how was I supposed to know about the dagger or any of Damon's plans? And guess who will save Elijah when he will lay helplessly daggered?" Jade mused, her face filled with smugness, her mouth breaking in a grin. "And nice to know that you care, Kit Kat." She cocked her head to the side with a pout.

Katherine's lips started to slowly form into a wicked smile. "Miss Forbes, I'm so glad we've met."

Jade's grin got even wider, and she abruptly stood up, clasping her hands. "So!" She exclaimed, turning to the sitting vampire and looking down at her with a mischivious look. "I get my protection, you get your free pass from the stone coffin, and Elijah gets his saviour."

"Everybody wins." Katherine said simply, shrugging one of her shoulders, eyes full of satisfaction.

"Everybody wins." Jade echoed with a smile, her hands firmly on her hips.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

Some time later, Jade found herself in the booth at the Mystic Grill in the company of Damon and Alaric. She was sipping her drink casually, her head resting on her hand, pretending to listen to their banter. However, wheels were turning in her head.

Why didn't Damon tell her about his plans? Why didn't she know anything about the dagger? Didn't he trust her? Well, she didn't trust him, but why didn't he trust her? Ugh. But on the other hand, the less she knew about the whole situation, the better. Elijah would have no reason to consider it a betrayal or a deal-breaker if she didn't know anything. Theoretically.

However, Jade couldn't underestimate Elijah either. When he sees through her, things could end in various ways.

What happened to her life? Six months ago she was pissing on rent prices, and today she's scheming against the world's oldest vampire, accompanied by a five-hundred-year-old one. Who, by the way, has an identical face to her sister's best friend. What the actual fuck?

"Other than your lecture on Mystic Falls, got anything out of Elijah?" Damon's voice snapped her out of her thoughts. Or rather, the name that came from his mouth.

"No, it was... boring." Alaric let out a big exhale in exhaustion. "Of course, Jenna thinks he's charming." His lips formed into a forced smile.

"Ohh, someone's jelly." Jade mocked with a pout, to which Alaric gave her a deadpanned look. When she caught it, she broke into an innocent grin. "But, to be fair, he is charming. He's as charming as Damon thinks he is." She said, side-eyeing the vampire.

"Nobody's charming as I am, my dear Harley." He said, looking down at her with a condescending smile. Jade just rolled her eyes and pushed him away from her. "And definitely not the guy who ran along with the dinosaurs." He concluded with a huff.

"Yeah, because the guy who had slaves is so much better." She muttered into her drink and earned a snort from Alaric.

"Speak of the Neanderthal. And look, here he is with his new girlfriend, Jenna." Damon mused, ignoring the blonde and waving at the two.

"Hey, guys." Jenna said with a pearly smile, approaching their table, Elijah trailing after her. Jade flashed her a quick smile that dissapeared after a second.

It's not that she didn't like Jenna. It's just that... well. You know Jade, she didn't... like much people. Their relationship during their school days was very superficial. They said 'hello' to each other at the beginning of class and a 'goodbye' at the end, but that was pretty much it. At parties, the girls had their own friend groups━okay, Jade only had Vicki and sometimes Mason━that differed from one another at least with humor, appearance, and certainly in lifestyle.

"So, I hear you two had quite a meeting of historical minds." Damon chirped, which caused Jade to pull a face as she took a sip of her drink. He's up to something, nobody's that ecstatic after one drink.

"Yeah, I guess you could say that." Jenna replied, looking up at an already smiling Elijah. Very creepy smiling Elijah.

"Well, as much as I'd like to continue this, I've got papers to grade." Alaric said with fake smile, rising from his chair.

"Noo, Riccy! Don't leave me with him." Jade whined, throwing her head back and leaning it against the booth. Her eyes met Damon's and she could actually see the wheels turning behind them.

"You know what? We should continue this. Why don't we have a dinner party? I'll host." Damon said, and within seconds earned at least three excuses from both Alaric and Jade. But not Jenna━she agreed, despite Alaric's stare. Damon forcefully squeezed Jade's thigh under the table, and she furrowed her eyebrows as she whipped her head towards him and saw his strained smile.

She sighed. Loudly.

And shugged his hand off.

"Whatever." She grumbled, rolling her eyes. Alaric also sighed, but eventually nodded, much to Damon's delight. The vampire turned his icy eyes to the Original, eyebrow raised in anticipation.

"It would be a pleasure." Elijah said with courtesy, giving Damon a faint smirk that did not quite reach his eyes. His gaze jumped momentarily to Jade, who gave him a tight smile. It didn't reach her eyes either.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

A few hours later, Jade found herself in the Salvatore residence, sprawled on a chair in the dining room accompanying Jenna, who was laying out dishes.

"It would be a lot faster if you helped, you know?" Jenna said, looking at Jade, who was swirling bourbon in her glass, legs crossed on the chair next to her.

Jade snorted and straightened up, giving her a deadpan stare. "Sure, what else?" She asked sarcastically, to which Jenna just raised her eyebrow with amusement. "I cooked the fucking main course, I'm not doing anything more." She grumbled, leaning her head against her hands, elbows bent on the table. She looked at Damon and Alaric, who didn't even lift a finger to help, who... just locked themselves in a separate room.

Awesome.

Do they really think they're sneaky?

"Do you think our gentlemen will like the smoked duck or should I run for a gold-soaked octopus?" She asked sarcastically, and Jenna barked a laugh, her hands polishing the silverware.

"It's quite nice to talk to you when you're not shooting daggers out of your eyes. At least not in my direction." Jenna said with a smile, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

Jade snorted, her eyebrows shooting up. "And you're quite nice to talk to when you're not trying to get me to join the cheer squad."

"Ah, sorry. How could I?" Jenna said mockingly, to which Jade huffed a laugh.

An awkward silence followed, so Jade cleared her throat and pointed with her head toward the closed door. "So... you and Alaric, huh?"

Jenna sighed and rubbed her forehead with the back of her hand. "Oh, we'd better not go there. At least not without some wine." She said, feigning seriousness and pointing a fork in Jade's direction.

The blonde hummed with a smile and nodded deeply. "Got it." She said, and Jenna laughed.

"Um, Jade, listen..." Jenna began after her laughter died. Jade snapped her gaze towards the Sommers girl, curious about her solemn tone. "I would just like to say that I am sorry." She said, her face full of seriousness, her eyes brimming with sincerity and sorrow. Jade's eyebrows dissapeared under her fringe.

Huh? For what?

"You know, because of this whole situation. It must be really hard for you. You weren't at the f━" The sound of the doorbell interrupted her little speech.

What fucking situation?

What is hard?

Yet before she could ask what the fuck she meant, the girl excused herself and went to open the door. Jade shook her head in confusion and downed her drink in one gulp. Ah, whatever.

Some time and an awful small talk with John Gilbert later, the doorbell rang one last time, signaling Elijah's arrival. Damon sprang to his feet, heading for the front door and Jade excused herself from the company and went to the kitchen, where she could hear their conversation much better.

After hearing Elijah's threats, Jade has to admit━she might as well have shit her pants a little. And it was Jade, so that was saying something. She grabbed two bottles of wine from the kitchen and started walking toward the dining room when she encountered the two vampires.

"Jade, you look absolutely ravishing." Elijah complimented, scanning her from top to bottom with a smirk on his lips. Jade face contorted into a devilish grin.

"Oh, stop it." She murmured with a playful eyeroll. "I know." She whispered and Elijah chuckled. "You don't look too bad yourself, Elijah." She said as she passed him, giving him a wink. Damon watched their exchange with a disgusted look on his face.

The dinner proceeded as any fake dinner would.

Jenna talked to Elijah about some historical stuff, occasionally John or Alaric interjected, meanwhile the two vampires present exchanged some passive-aggressive comments. That was literally the whole dinner. Jade wanted to kill herself since halfway through.

It only got interesting when everyone started to walk away from the table, Jade watched with satisfaction as Damon plotted to talk to Elijah alone. It was really amusing.

"You'll all have to forgive me, but I have to admit that the food was the best part of this evening." Elijah said, smiling slightly at Jade, whose eyes immediately lit up.

"Thank you! Finally!" She exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air. "You really know how to swoon a woman, Elijah." She said, pointing her manicured finger at him, to which he chuckled.

"Will gentlemen have a drink in the study? I have a really old bourbon hidden in my secret stash, I think you'll like it." Damon mused, cocking his head in the direction of the room. After few seconds, where everyone awkwardly exchanged glances with each other, the men followed the vampire to the said study, leaving the women alone.

"Do they really believe we're gonna clean this up?" Jenna scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest.

"If they do, they're fucking hilarious." Jade huffed and started to stride out of the room. "Come, I saw more wine in the kitchen." She grumbled, not bothering to turn around.

After some time, following stressed out Alaric, Jade found herself doing... fuck knows what she was doing. Pudding? She didn't know. All she knew was that she had been instructed to make a quick dessert and distract Jenna. But you know what she does with instructions, right? Exactly.

So, she left Jenna in the kitchen, throwing her a little instruction that would take her time and returned to the dining room, sitting down next to Elijah.

"Elijah, did John tell you that he's Elena's uncle/father?"

"Oh, fuck. That's the topic I've been missing?" Jade widened her eyes, resting her head on her joined fingers.

"Of course, she hates him, so there's absolutely no need to keep him on the endangered spiecies list." The vampire ignored her, narrowing his eyes at the Gilbert man.

"I'm gonna kill Elena myself if you keep bringing up that topic." She mused with a malicious look in her eyes, that were burning a hole through Damon's side of the face.

"What I'd like to know, Elijah, is how you intend to kill Klaus." John interjected, and Jade hid her face in her hands.

"Ohmyfuckinggod." She muttered in evaporation, her fingers muffling her words.

"Gentlemen, there's a few things we should probably get clear right now." Elijah murmured, his voice dripping with danger and artificial calmness. "I allow you to live solely to keep an eye on Elena." He turned his gaze to Damon, pointing at him with a steak knife. "I allow Elena to remain in her house, living her life with her friends, as she does as courtesy. If you become a liability, I'll take her away from you. You'll never see her again." He concluded, looking in the distance.

"Okay, can we just chill for a second here and━"Jade began, but the agonizing scream from Elijah's mouth interrupted her.

Jade's eyes jumped up and she saw Alaric piercing the chair, as well as Elijah's heart, with a dagger. "What the fuck?!" She shrieked, her crazed eyes focused on Elijah, who was growing grayer by the second, dark veins spinning down his body from his heart, covering his face minimeter by minimeter.

The last thing the Original did was to connect his fading gaze with Jade's. The woman locked eyes with him, and in the last seconds of his feelting life, gave him the smallest nod, invisible to the agitated people surrounding them. Nod, that was also a promise.

They knew. That's why they didn't kill him in the study. How? No matter. No one died. Alaric used the dagger, not Damon. Now, if they leave the dagger, Jade will be able to━

The sound of a blade sliding through a body was heard in the dining room, followed by the sound of a metal hitting the table.

Well.

They didn't know much.

Fucking idiots.

"Get rid of him before Jenna comes back with dessert." Alaric said, his voice laced with anger.

Jade turned in her chair toward the standing Damon, her eyes blazing with rage. Raising herself from the chair and maintaining eye contact with the vampire, she pointed a finger at him. "What. The. Actual━"

"━You'll yell at me later. Help me take him to the basement." Damon said in a low voice, their gazes locked in a dangerous staring contest. Jade raised her eyebrows in disbelief and spun on her heel with a scoff, heading in the direction of the dungeon. "Un-fucking-believable." She muttered under her nose.

Walking down the stairs, Jade turned behind her, making sure no one was following her. When she saw no one, she pulled her phone out of her back pocket and sent one short text message to a specific number.

J

now.

Hearing the men's grunts, the girl opened the cell door, and stepped inside, holding it to the men carrying Elijah's corpse. The moment they lowered him to the ground, Jade wasted no time and pushed Alaric against the wall and shot Damon in the face with an open palm, her ring from Marcel leaving a mark on his face for few seconds.

"What the fuck?! Why didn't I know about anything? Do you guys want to be dead?" Jade screamed, her furious eyes darting between the men hissing in pain. "Huh? What the fuck is your problem?"

"Why did he only get a push?" Damon groaned, massaging his cheek.

"Because I have an itsy-bitsy feeling that this is your doing." Jade's tone was dripping with sarcasm as she gave him a cold smile.

The men exchanged strange glances among themselves. "Harley, it's not like that." Damon quickly said, shaking his head.

"Then enlighten me how it is, because I'm this close to cutting your balls off." She said, bringing her index finger and thumb together, her face contorted into a grimace.

"Can I just say you're really hot when you're━" Damon started with his smug smirk on his face, which Jade quickly wiped off by kicking him in the crotch.

"We did this to protect you, Jade." Alaric finally spoke up and took a step toward the girl, and when Jade turned her eyes, dripping with rage, to him, he stepped back, raising his hands up in a defensive gesture. Damon moaning in pain in the background.

"Excuse me?" Jade said in a low, dangerous tone, which could scare the devil itself. "You have a dick too, Alaric. Do you want to make Jenna happy ever again?"

"You're not on the list. You have no protection. If Elijah knew you were involved, he wouldn't have wasted his time showing us on you who's in charge." He explained, running his hand through his face.

"That makes no fucking sense. Didn't you kill him right now?"

"Yes, but remember the family of witches who work with him? Or God knows who else? We couldn't take any chances."

"Wha━" She breathed, looking around in disbelief, throwing her hands up in the air. "If so, don't you think they'll be a little pissed off since you stabbed their boss?"

"The plan ends here." Damon murmured from his place on the floor.

"Of course it does." She whispered to herself, rubbing her forehead with closed eyes in evaporation.

"We have BonBon. No worries." The vampire said, his trademark side-smirk back on his face. Few seconds of silence followed, men waiting in wariness for Jade's next reaction.

"If you think I'm gonna thank you for that, you're deadly wrong." She said simply, turning around to the direction of the cell's door. "Don't keep things from me ever again or I'll remove your arms and beat you both to death with them." She threw over her shoulder before she slammed the door behind herself and got out of the Boarding House.

She should really consider acting, she thought as she walked.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

"They did what?!" Caroline yelped, almost choking on the blood she had been drinking.

When Jade returned home, she found Caroline inside, completely oblivious to the events of that day, sprawled on the couch watching Sex and the City. After summarizing the events, the movie was completely forgotten in the background, Caroline leaning with big eyes toward her older sister.

"Yeah, you didn't know?" Jade murmured into her mug with green tea in it.

"P-uh-lease, they're telling you more than me." Caroline scoffed and leaned back on the couch, crossing her legs on the coffee table before her. "And I'm the supernatural being." She huffed with annoyance, rolling her eyes.

"'Cause I scream at them." Jade clicked her tongue with a toothy smile. "Try it."

Caroline snorted in amusement and few seconds later let out a loud sigh. "So what happens now? They pulled out the dagger, Elijah is probably ripping out their hearts as we speak." She said, rubbing her forehead in evaporation. After a second she smacked Jade with the same hand on the arm. "And you're next!"

Jade returned the favor, hitting her back. "No." She said with a deadpanned look. "The only thing that Elijah's cares about is the Gilbert girl. So he's probably already where she is, and if Damon had a flash of intelligence, he's there with the dagger." She explained, getting up from the couch and looking out the window, the cup still in her hand.

"This is so insane." Caroline sighed, throwing her head back on the couch.

"Agreedo. But it is what it is." Jade murmured, taking a sip from her tea, her eyes still locked on the window. "Where is she?" She whispered under her breath.

"Who?" Caroline casually asked, her eyes closed. After a moment of silence, she cracked one eye open, looking suspiciously at her smirking sister. "Jade, what did you do?" Her tone more serious.

Jade looked at her with an innocent look, shrugging her shoulders. "Nothing." Her smug smile still on her face.

"Jade." Caroline drawled, narrowing her eyes at Jade and slowly standing up from the couch. "Where is who?" She questioned with a tilt of her head. Jade turned her head towards her sister, still only smiling. Before Caroline could question her further, the doorbell chimed in the house. Caroline began walking toward the front door, her suspicious gaze lingering on Jade for a good few more seconds. The younger Forbes opened the door, her look momentarily replaced by an annoyed one.

"Missed me?" Katherine chirped, wiggling her fingers, her standard devious smile on her lips.

Caroline slowly turned her head behind her, looking at her devilishly smiling sister with a raised eyebrow. "Seriously?"

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

The three women sat in the living room of the Forbes house, planning what to do next. Caroline was not amused by the situation and sat at the end of the couch, looking at Katherine with sour eyes.

"That's going to be a problem, isn't it?" Caroline said with squinted eyes, pointing her finger at the laughing women.

"Kit Kat will bahave, isn't she?" Jade said, eyeing Katherine with a raised eyebrows. When she didn't respond, she nudged her with her shoulder.

"Yes, yes." Katherine murmured, rolling her eyes. Then, she turned towards Caroline. "Look, I'm still here, because I want Klaus dead just as much as you all do. And I'm the only one who knows how he looks like, I'm the best ally you've got."

"Ugh." The younger Forbes groaned, and Katherine gave her self-satisfied smirk, making herself comfortable on the couch. "What are you doing? You're not staying here." Caroline huffed, her eyebrows reaching her hairline.

Katherine kissed her teeth with a slow nod. "Yeah, I guess the Sheriff will be a little suspicious of Elena living here all of a sudden." She said, as she straightened up. "No biggie, I'll torment the Salvatores, that's always fun." She shrugged her shoulders. "And I thought we're cool, Carebear."

Caroline rolled her eyes. "Yes, but that doesn't mean I have to like you." She said with a cold smile.

"Fair enough." Katherine nodded with a pout. Then, she whipped her head in Jade's direction. "J, have you thought about it yet?"

Jade furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Wha━Oh." She breathed, realization on her face. "Yeah, a bit. But I'll think about it some more, it's not like changing a hairstyle."

"The hairstyle would look good on you." The vampire mused.

"Oh, I know." Jade smirked. "But it would be pretty shitty if it came out like Stefan's." She huffed, running her hand through her hair.

Katherine clicked her tongue against her teeth, side-eyeing her. "It's inevitable in your case, honey."

"Yeah, I know." Jade grumbled.

"Do I have any say in this?" Caroline finally spoke up, arching one of her eyebrows.

"No."
