Chapter 52: Another Chance
I felt my body start to wake up, and the morning rays beat through the wide-open balcony doors. I opened my eyes and rubbed them, from sleep. It was warm inside the room and under the blankets. I shifted to try and get out of the bed, but I felt something around my waist. I looked down and saw Quinn's arm wrapped around my waist. I slowly picked it up and took it off of my waist. I slowly slipped out of bed and walked to the dresser in the room. I grabbed some clothes and went to the bathroom. I set the clothes on the side of the sink and walked to the bath. There was already warm water in the bath with a notecard hanging off the edge. I picked it up and started reading the note.
I got a bath ready for you. I grabbed some candles for you to light and I put some rose petals in the bath for you. I know you get up at seven usually, so I got up early. Have a good bath. <3
~Quinn~
' Alright, that's a little creepy. How many times has he watched me to know I always get up at seven? '
I stripped myself of my nightgown and my undergarments. I put them on the floor beside the bathtub and I slipped in the warm water. I didn't light the candles but the water smelled wonderful because of the roses. I could feel my body slowly relax in the warm water. After I soaked my body and washed I got out and dried myself until there was no water dripping. I put on my undergarments and the new dress that was in the dresser. I grabbed my dirty clothes and walked out of the bathroom. Quinn was still asleep on the bed, so I set the dirty clothes on the floor beside the dresser and left the room. The castle halls were clean and no one was around.
' It wasn't always this lonely or quiet when I was a maid here. There was always something to do. '
The only person in the hall was me, and another maid who walked around the corner. She had a broom and dustpan with her, and she didn't meet my eyes. I was about to walk by her when she moved and bumped right into me.
" I'm so sorry, my lady. "
" It's fine. Are you alright. "
" I'm fine. I need to give you these. It's from Queen Elina and another man from Chevalier. " She whispered to me.
She held out two letters and I took them from her. The maid started on her way past me and left me alone in the hallway. I held the letters together and started walking away from the royal floor. I knew she had to give these to me in secret, and they needed to be read in secret. I walked down the stairs to the main floor and I went through the maid's quarters. I found my old room with Genevive and I walked inside. Everything was cleaned up and my stuff and hers were gone. No one new had moved into the room so I was here alone. I opened the first letter from Elina and started reading.
Dear Y/n,
Y/n, I heard about your situation and what happened to Genevive, Aileen, and many others. My husband is trying to get a plan together to help. We received an invitation to the wedding, and I'm going to send someone on our behalf. He will be at the wedding and he's a very skilled guard. You'll meet him before the wedding. His name is Sam Sutcliff. He'll ask you about signals and to give him one during the wedding if you need help. You always have a place here in Prosan.
Sincerely, Elina
I closed the letter and opened the second one.
Hey, little lady. I heard you and Jin got captured. I also heard you're being forced to marry that bastard king. I'll come to see you before the wedding and I'll get you and Jin away if you need me to. I'm definitely getting Jin out. Those in the rebellion are willing to help too. They're mad that Jin was almost executed. We have people on the inside who will let us know if anything's happening. Know that Jin is okay.
-Benjamin
I closed Benjamin's letter and set both of them in my hands. I knew I needed to get rid of them before Quinn found them. I stood up and left the room, and made my way to the sink. I took my ring off and washed my hands, also getting the paper wet and tearing it apart. The paper got thinner and thinner and the water brought the paper into pieces.
' Later there should be no evidence of the paper at all. '
I dried my hands and slipped my ring back on. I walked out of the kitchen and pretended I didn't do anything.
' I might get out of here. '
