Chapter 40: Forgiveness

Your feet were hurting and they throbbed and ached. You wanted to stop walking, but you didn't make a move to tell Jin. He was still mad at you and you didn't want to anger him more. The sun wasn't high in the sky and it was lowering to the skyline. You were close to the mountains and you were almost there. When you got there Jin said he would set up the tent and you could rest there before traveling over the mountain.

' How do I get Jin to talk to me and not sound angry? I wanna talk to him but I don't want to be yelled at. '

Jin was walking further ahead of you and his speed was faster than yours. He didn't care about you keeping up with him. You ran up to meet him and walked beside him. His pace didn't slow down but quickened.

" We'll camp over there tonight. The base of the mountain is close so, we can camp here tonight and in the morning we can climb the mountain. "

   " Okay. "

Jin set his huge backpack down and started rummaging through it. He pulled out an ax and pulled out the tent.

" If you'll set this up I'll go get wood. I'll be back in a little bit. "

Jin left without another word and you walked to the backpack and grabbed the tent. You didn't know how to set it up but you figured it out. You put the rods together and then slipped the cloth on it and made it stand up. The tent wasn't in the shape of a triangle like the ones you were used to. This one was a little more advanced.

The bottom of it was flat and the top was an oval shape. There was only one door and one window. The window was on the top opposite of the floor. It was big enough to hold three people. You walked back to the backpack and grabbed the sleeping materials inside.

There were two pillows and three blankets. One blanket was bigger than the others and you laid that out on the floor of the tent. You set the two pillows and blankets inside the tent and set the backpack in one of the corners. You set your back of produce on the opposite corner and sat in the tent listening for Jin's footsteps. When you heard them you opened the tent flap and saw him walking back with a rabbit on his shoulder and three logs in his hands.

He set the logs down and put the rabbit beside them. He used the ax to thin them out before creating fire using flints. The fire was small but the heat it radiated was warm and spread around your body from in the tent. You left the safety of the tent and sat near the fire where Jin was skinning the rabbit to cook it. He threw the skins into the fire and let them burn.

" How did you learn to do that? "

" You learn a lot about survival when you're an assassin. ONe of them being how to survive on your own if you get separated from the group. "

" Oh, so you learned all of this from the training? "

" Some of it. I learned a little from my father when we would go camping. "

   " I see. "

It was quiet once more and Jin threw the last skin in the fire before getting a stick and skewering the meat on it. He set it over the fire and started to slowly cook it.

   " So..."

   " So? "

" So, you joined the rebellion. "

" I did. How did you know about that anyhow? "

" When we were at the festival I went looking for you and I saw you talking to this man about it. "

" Oh, him. That was the recruiter for the rebellion. He was a friend of their leader and they wanted me to join. "

   " Why you specifically? "

" Because I was the easiest to approach. They saw me there with a girl and figured I had someone to protect. And they were right. That's why I joined them. So, I could protect you and keep you safe from getting hurt by that king. I didn't want him to hurt you or get the chance to kill you. When I came back and heard you were in the cell's with a sword scar on your hand, I went ballistic. "

" Yeah, I was defending another maid from getting hurt. "

" That's just like you to do that. "

   " Yeah..."

It was silent once more between you both and the rabbit had finished cooking. He tore some off and handed the stick for you to eat off of. You grabbed it and looked down at the cooked meat, wondering how you got in this position.

" You wanna know what hurts the most Y/n? "

   ' I don't think I do. '

" What hurts the most is the fact that I trusted you and loved you and...put my life on the line for you. And then when I try and set you free you turned on me. "

" Jin please understand. I saw it as an opportunity to escape and I had to take it. I didn't want to stay in that cell longer than I had to. "

" Y/n you should have just trusted me to get you out of there. I had a plan and it was almost ready. I was just waiting for Aileen to feel confident in her escape plan because she was going to leave at the same time we did. She didn't feel confident in it yet. "

" You know he asked me to marry him. "

   " ... "

" I said no, but he didn't like that answer. I didn't have the choice to deny him. I just wanted to escape. He's crazy, Jin and I just wanted to get out of there. I didn't want to do anything, I was just doing it so I could get out. "

Tears perked the corners of your eyes. You held them in and you couldn't see the area around you because your eyes were glossy. You didn't even feel hungry anymore and set the stick with the rabbit on it in the fire. Jin stood up from where he was sitting and sat in front of you. He held your face between his hands and rubbed his thumb underneath your eyes.

" Let's just say we both messed up. Okay? We were both in the wrong because I was mad at you and I didn't understand the situation and you almost had sex with the one person we were trying to escape. Okay? We both were in the wrong. "

" Only if things can go back to the way they were. Before you left for your last mission. "

Jin leaned forward and connected your lips in a sweet kiss. You kissed him back, but it wasn't long until he pulled away.

" We can. I'll love you if you love me and we live our lives together away from that crazy guy. "

   " Okay. "

   " Okay. "

Jin connected your heads together and you sat there like that for a few minutes. Just sitting in pure silence with each other.

" Let's go lay down. We need to leave early so we can get over the mountain. No doubt the king is already out of that cell. "

   " Let's sleep. "

You both got in the tent and laid down underneath your individual blankets. Jin scooted closer to you and pulled you into his body. His body provided heat and you stayed warm. You turned around and hugged him, staying warm in the cold night.
