Chapter 19: The Harvest Festival
You were walking around the town with Jin and it was very enjoyable. He brought you to many places and made sure to pay for everything which left you wanting to at least pay him back. But he wouldn't let you, because he wanted to be a gentleman. Now, it was getting dark and the stars were appearing in the dark sky. They designed the sky and made beautiful patterns called constellations.
" Y/n, there's supposed to be a festival tonight, do you want to stay for it? "
" Sure! What's the festival about? "
" For having a good harvest. We got a lot of crops this year and usually, the town celebrates the good year in the square. So next year we will have good crops again. "
" So, it's tradition? "
" It is, and it's super fun! There's always music playing and dancing. A lot of people enjoy it. "
" Well, let's go! "
Jin held your hand tightly as he started walking to the square. In all honesty, you were having fun, but your mind wasn't all there. Your mind was still stuck on Quinn's words. They swam in your head telling you that Jon has killed people before, but Jin's words also swam around your head. You remember him saying that he doesn't kill someone unless it's right, but you knew there was something fishy about it.
He was an assassin it's his job, but at the same time, he might have lied to you about how many people he's killed. It put you on edge a little to know he might have lied to you, and that Quinn could be right. You wanted to find out but at the same time, you didn't want to ruin the night you two were having. It was your first date after all. You could see the square and there were people dancing around the center.
Music was being played, clapping, and cheering could be heard. It warmed your heart to see the townspeople come together and celebrate the year. It made you smile. Jin brought you into the crowd and you watched people dance to the song the merry band was playing. When the song ended everyone cheered and another song was being played.
This song was fast and joyful, one of happiness. You wanted to join in the dancing so you stepped out of the crowd and joined the circle of people. First, it was a circle around the center and then you spun around to a partner. Jin didn't join in the dancing so you were dancing with a stranger, but it didn't feel awkward or perverted. It felt like an uncle dancing with his niece.
It was like the townspeople were one big family and they wanted to celebrate like one. You danced with a lot of people and made conversations with them to know them better. You talked politically, emotionally, and energetically with them. Everyone seemed to like you and smiles decorated everyone's face. When the fifth song ended you stepped out of the dancing circle, red-cheeked from dancing so much.
" Where's Jin? "
You looked around but didn't find Jin anywhere. You started looking around for him but you still couldn't find him. You started asking the people around you if they had seen someone with his appearance but they had said no or pointed in a direction that someone else would point the opposite of. You got to the back of the crowd, where there were fewer people, and started searching for him. He was still nowhere to be found.
' Where could he be? '
" Looking for someone? "
You turned to the side and saw Quinn standing with a few people in the crowd. He wasn't wearing his usual clothes, but instead was wearing black slacks, a tucked-in white half-sleeve shirt, and black shoes. One of his hands was in his pockets and the other was raised, ready to wave or do anything with. He looked so casual you didn't think it was Quinn, but there was no one else you knew with hair and eyes like him. He looked normal.
He turned to the man beside him and raised his free hand to him, and waved. He left the man with a smile and started walking towards me. He stopped in front of me and his ice-blue eyes looked down at me. I took in his appearance now that he was closer and could see slash marks all over his arms and a few on his lower neck. There were so many on his arms that it almost took up both of his arms.
" What are you doing here Princ-"
" What were my orders? "
" What are you doing here Quinn? "
" I'm enjoying the festival. I always come and enjoy the harvest festival. I get to talk with people more and enjoy being around them. "
" They don't recognize you? "
" Not when I look like this. I'm in comfortable clothes that my father would absolutely disapprove of. I enjoy being out here with my people and dancing with them. "
" So, I'm guessing your father doesn't know you're here. "
" You're correct, my lady. He has no idea that I come here every year. "
" You are reckless. "
" Reckless for my freedom. Anyhow, what are you doing here? I thought you had a date to attend. "
" Well, we came here and I was dancing, but when I stopped I couldn't find him. I've been looking for him but I can't find him anywhere. "
" Let me help, I'm sure we can find him together. Plus he needs a good talking to, you don't abandon a lady on a date. "
" Oh, no it's your night of fun and peace. Don't let my troubles pull you out of it. "
" Oh, please."
He grabbed my hand gently and kissed the back of it. He smiled at me as he held my hand softly, but I didn't feel any reaction out of it. I didn't blush nor felt shy.
" It's always peaceful with you around, now let's go look for him. "
