An Oscar-Worthy Performance

You hesitantly shake Lance's hand.

"Deal."

"Alright! Looks like I am now your boyfriend. Lucky you," Lance states.

"Fake boyfriend," you correct.

"Same difference," he shrugs.

"That's an oxymoron."

"You're an oxymoron."

You both giggle together. You leaned your head on Lance's shoulder and let out a yawn.

Lance glanced at the clock, "Hey, we've been at this for almost an hour. I should go back to my room and let you sleep. We have a long day of faking a relationship tomorrow, remember?"

"Yeah," you agree, "Except faking a relationship shouldn't be too hard for us, right? We're pretty tight as it is. And plus, when we first arrived here, Allura thought you and I were together anyway."

"Well that's because you and I are always by each other. It's gonna take a little more than that to make Keith jealous."

"Like what?"

Lance smirked. "You'll see."

/next morning/

You plopped down onto your seat at the table for breakfast.

So far only Allura, Shiro, Keith, Hunk, and you were awake, while the rest were slowly filing in.

Space goo was on the menu yet again, except this time in the form of pancakes, thanks to Hunk.

Pidge and Coran soon walk in, Pidge shooting everyone casual finger guns, then grabbing the seat across from you.

Coran says a brief hello and sits down with Allura.

"So what's the plan for today, space dad?" You jokingly ask Shiro.

Shiro rolls his eyes yet smiles. "Right now we're just in search of any new planets to rescue from the Galra. The more alliances the better."

Hunk nods, "Ah, so we're just floating around looking for friends?"

"In summary, yes," Allura responds.

"At least that gives us time to train. You up for some sparring, Shiro?" Asks Keith.

"Sorry, Keith, I was planning on working on my bond with the black lion today," Shiro gives an apologetic smile.

"That's alright. How about you, (Y/n)?" Keith offers, turning towards you.

"Sure I'd be cool with th-"

"Sorry, dude. (Y/n) is all mine for today," Lance announces after walking in. He took the seat next to you and snaked his arm around your shoulders.

He gives you a quick peck on the cheek and steals a bite of your space goo pancakes.

You fail to hold in an amused smile as you watch everyone's facial expressions change.

Shiro's mouth is slightly parted, Allura's eyes are widened, Hunk is utterly confused yet delighted, Coran choked a little on his food, Pidge blinks in surprise, and Keith dropped his spoon.

Lance, however, remained looking as if everything was normal. A crazy good actor, he was.

He glanced up at everyone's shock. "What? Do I have goo on my face?"

You smudged a bit of goo onto the tip of his nose with your finger and giggled. "Now you do."

He turned to you and smiled adoringly. "You're lucky you're cute," he said while wiping off the goo from his nose.

You flipped your hair dramatically, "Thanks, I know."

"That's adorable," said Pidge getting over her surprise.

"Huh, congratulations you guys," said Shiro, still slightly confused.

"Alright buddy! Nice one," praised Hunk, giving Lance a high five.

Allura cooed and smiled happily, "How cute!"

"I always knew you two were perfect for each other," said Coran matter-of-factly.

Keith furrowed his eyebrows in confusion but gave a small smile nonetheless. "Impressive, Lance."

"Thanks guys, but we're just trying this out. We aren't really official yet," stated Lance.

"Yeah thanks, guys," you added, "Also thank you, Hunk, for breakfast."

"No problem, Mrs. Mcclain," Hunk teased.

Lance grinned, "That has a nice ring to it, huh (Y/n)?"

You scoffed and nudged his plate toward him. "Shush and eat your food, boy."

Keith cleared his throat and stood up to leave, despite his unfinished breakfast.

Afterward, Shiro was second to leave after finishing his own food, and headed toward the lion bunker.

One by one they each left to go do their individual tasks.

Pidge and Hunk opted to play video games on their day off, while Allura and the mice were to play games, and Coran went to go do his hair-care routine for his mustache.

Lance suggested for the two of you to go to the pool. Not the upside-down pool, but the actual earth-inspired pool that you and Pidge had installed after discovering the odd Altean pool.

On your way to the elevator, you and Lance had a small conversation on how breakfast went. The halls were empty, so no one would be able to eavesdrop.

"Successful day, right?" Lance said proudly.

"Definitely. At least I think so. Did Keith look jealous to you?"

"Meh, not sure yet, but at least we got the ball rolling," Lance casually stated.

You sighed.

"Hey, don't worry, this'll work," Lance reassured.

"Right. Hey by the way, what was with all the 'We're not official' business you said earlier?" You questioned.

"Ah, that's so that Keith knows he has an opportunity to still ask you out. If I straight up said we were together, he would think he couldn't have a chance with you," Lance explained.

You nodded approvingly. "Wooow, who knew I was dating such a smart guy?" you teased elbowing him gently, "Strategy. I like it."

"Thank you, thank you," he bowed theatrically.

You both neared the elevator and got inside.

"Also, nice job with the acting," he complimented,"I almost thought you had the heart eyes for me."

"Actually the heart eyes were for Keith, I just made it look like it was directed toward you," you joked.

He scoffed and put a hand over his chest,"Offensive."

"Your face is offensive."

"My face is beautiful."

"Whatever helps you sleep at night," you shrug.

The elevator dings, you step out of the elevator with Lance behind you.
