Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Natasha's POV

All of the Avengers are sitting around in a circle in Tony's living room trying to lift Thor's hammer. You know how the famous saying goes "Whoever shall lift the hammer shall be worthy of the power of Thor", it's something along those lines anyways. I mean I'm a nerd, but not nearly as much as some of the Avengers on the team, like Tony and Bruce... speaking of Bruce... him and I seemed to have a moment back at the bar not too long ago. I don't know what came over me, but I kept flirting with him. I never come onto guys out of the blue, I usually just do so for my own purposes, mainly to distract them in battle. This isn't going to end well...

Everyone takes turns lifting Thor's hammer and it's quite an amusing sight. I don't bother because I don't feel like making a fool out of myself like most of the team is. The only person who got the hammer to budge slightly was Steve. The best part about that was seeing the look on Thor's face as Steve actually managed to make the hammer budge. It was this short facial expression that Thor made sure to quickly cover up. Most people don't like to publicly display their insecurities.

Bruce's attempt at lifting the hammer was cute. He pretended to Hulk out without actually Hulking out. Cute... what on Earth am I saying? I mean yes he is cute, but I can't possibly tell him that. He'd think I was out of my mind, but then again, I lost my sanity a long time ago so would it really matter all that much? Who knows.

Thor smirks at everyone who tried to lift his hammer. "That was all rather amusing. As for your theories about lifting the hammer, I have a much simpler one for you all, you're all not worthy." That statement earns a bunch of boos. We continue to joke around for another moment when suddenly we all hear strange, loud noises, causing our little party to come to a halt. We stay silent to try to detect what the noise is, but it isn't until a strange looking robot appears. He looks at all of us one by one before looking at all of us as a whole.

He introduces himself as Ultron, a creation of no one other than Tony Stark. He rambles a bit further with a speech that includes the following:

"Do you see the beauty of it? The inevitability? You rise, only to fall. You, , are my meteor. My swift and terrible sword, and the Earth will crack with the weight of your failure. Purge me from your computers, turn against me; it means nothing. When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world... will be metal."

Those are quite bone chilling words, but we make sure not to show any fear to Ultron. Us Avengers refuse to give that satisfaction to our enemies, which Ultron clearly is. We all get into battle stance, ready to fight any moment. Ultron smirks at us and continues rambling, which includes the following as well:

"I'm sorry, I know you mean well. You just didn't think it through. You want to protect the world but you don't want it to change. How is saved if it's not allowed to... evolve? With ? These puppets. There's only one path to peace. The ' extinction."

Yet again another series of bone chilling words. Before any of us can say another word, fighting breaks out and Bruce is doing everything in his power not to Hulk out. Glass shatters all around us and Bruce ends up on top of me behind the bar. Both of us are breathless and blushing, which is unnatural for both of us, especially myself. He stares into my eyes intensely, his face full of worry. "Are you okay Nat?" I nod vigorously. "I'm fine, though I have to say I'm more worried about you. Are you okay Bruce?" He wipes a bit of blood off of his forehead and nods. "I'm fine... for now. The big guy is in the back of my head, teasing me with the idea of overcoming me. I'm not going to let him unless it's absolutely necessary."

I rub his arm gently, just like I did that day back in the woods not that long ago. He looks at me in shock but doesn't flinch a way. I don't know what came over me, I just felt the need to do it again. Bruce is often so tense and he needs to relax a bit more. I worry that one day, he's going to freak out so much and before we know it, Hulk will have destroyed an city during a rampage.

Bruce smiles softly at me. "Thank you Nat, that little trick of yours seem to be doing... well quite the trick lately. You're the only one on the team who's able to tame both myself and the Hulk." I blush slightly but try not to make it obvious. "I'm glad that I can be of service. For the record, spending more time with you lately as been nice. I always enjoying watching you geek out over science with Tony. I enjoy you teasing Tony while doing science even more." Bruce laughs. "Thank you Nat. Although this moment is nice, we really need to get out of here." I nod. "You're right."

I snap out of my trance I'm in and stay close to Bruce. We check on the other members of the team as well as Maria Hill to make sure everyone's alright, thankfully they are. We have one problem though... Ultron seemed to have gotten away in the fog that was just covering the room moments ago. Tony looks extremely pissed and ends up storming off, leaving the rest of us to clean up the mess in what was his living room while discussing the next steps we should take to defeating Ultron and protecting the civilians in harms way. It's going to be a long night...
