Chapter: 71 I Vow
To know the value of happiness, first, you have to cry...
You have to bear the pain, to shed tears of joy...
I linked my hand in Dad's arm, as Dad and I move into the place. I keep my gaze focused on the wooden deck, while I am aware of the guests on both sides of the aisle. Goosebumps appear on my skin when I feel them watching us, as the loud chattering of the guests dies down to a low humming.
There is a tingling sensation all over my body and strange fluttering in my stomach. There is no doubt or uncertainty in my heart, it just the nervousness of a bride.
Dad lightly squeezes my hand to inform me we have to walk now. I didn't realize that I am frozen in my spot until Dad gently nudges me. I swallow and take a deep breath to calm myself.
Let's just get over with this, and get to the best part... me being with him.
My heels clank against the wooden floor beneath, as I start to walk. My body is aware of a single pair of familiar eyes on me, among the dozen of sets, as a strange warmth spreads over me vanishing my anxiousness.
I raise my eyes to meet the ones, which are the source of comfort for me, owned by the person who is standing at the end of the aisle waiting for me. As soon as our eyes connect a gorgeous smile breaks onto his face, making my own lips turn upward in a smile.
Slowly heat rises to my cheeks, as I take in his appearance. He looks breathtaking, in a navy blue tuxedo, which is tailored to perfection, fitting him like a glove. But that is not the only thing which makes him look handsome, it is the brightness in his eyes as his love for me is evident in them. The way he looks at me with love and admiration makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
Suddenly, the idea of getting married again doesn't sound stupid as it seemed sometime earlier.
The more distance covers between us, the bigger his smile turns. I reach the end of the aisle, all the while our gaze tangled with each other. I watch him swallow hard when he offers his hand to me.
Dad's grip on my hand tightens making me look at him. My eyes glisten when Dad clenches his jaws as he is trying to keep his composure.
"You will always have the second spot in her life," Dad stares at Nathan, "I will always be her first love, as I am her Daddy," his voice sounds slightly hoarse.
"If this time you let her down," Dad sternly say, "I will put you six feet under the soil."
"I am never going to hurt her, in any way," Nathan squarely meet his gaze, "If I ever do, I will myself give you a gun, to put a bullet in me," he promises with certainty.
No matter how much I try to control, tears slip down my face. As I watch two most important persons, in my life in front of me, whom I love with all my heart.
Dad places my hand in Nathan's as I give him a hug. Then I turn to Nathan who is patiently holding my hand as he is looking at me with an understanding smile.
As soon as I stand in front of him, he wipes my tears with the pad of his thumb, making me lightly laugh and shake my head. But when my gaze again met his, the intensity in them makes my heart skip a beat. The way he looks at me is like I am his world, just like he is mine. The passion and emotions on his face are so spectacular that I can't tear my gaze away, neither I want to. Even though he has not said a single word to me but his eyes are speaking volumes, conveying his every feeling to me.
I can see his soul through his eyes.
I hold both of his hands in mine like I am drowning down in water and he is the support which will keep me afloat. Not even once I waver my gaze from his face, memorizing each and detail of his face. I want this memory to imprint in my mind and heart forever. His expression is also no different than mine. He is staring at me like he is also etching this moment... our moment in his mind.
The wedding officiant commences the ceremony, which I happily tuned out as my husband standing in front of me has got all my attention. The mischievous smile on his face, clearly shows that he is not bothering to listen to the officiant either and just like me, he is also waiting for the main moment.
Hey! I do not mean the kissing part, I mean the 'I do' part.
"Oh C'mon! She is doing it again," I hear Natalie murmur, making me snap my eyes to her.
She is sitting in the front row, giving me a pointed look with her signature innocent devilish smile. When I glare at her and slightly shake my head to tell her not to say anything further, she shrugs then signs zipping her lips.
You can't tell what embarrassing words can come out of Natalie's mouth.
Nathan lightly tugs my hand when I shift my eyes back to him, he raises his eyebrows in a questioning manner.
"You may say your vows to each other," Before I can respond to Nathan, I hear the officiant say to us.
Nathan hold tightens on my hands, he exhales a quick small breath from his mouth. He looks away for a moment, then turns to me with a small smile.
"Abigail..." he breathes, then shakes his head and lightly chuckles.
"There's so much I want to tell you, but seeing you like this... in front of me," he bites his bottom lip and shrugs, "My mind has gone blank... I don't remember a single word which I thought I would say to you at this moment."
"But now when I look into your beautiful warm brown eyes, I know I don't need words to express my feelings. Because these eyes know me better than myself. Everything which I want to tell they already know," he sighs, "But I can't just skip to the best part so I will try to voice my thoughts... my feelings."
"Nathan Knight always wanted to be the best, and he was. But even after getting whatever he wanted, the Nathan in him had always been restless. Now I know why he was not at peace, because he was looking for you... you brought peace into his life," he rubs his thumbs over the back of my hands.
"I never understand why, whenever you said even jokingly that you will be with someone else, it hurt me. The thought of you being with someone, who is not me, troubled my heart. My feelings were so puzzled at that time, that I used to think I am going crazy. But now when I think about those times, everything seems so clear. I have been in love with you, even before I had realized it."
Closing my eyes I take a deep ragged breath as I try to keep myself together.
"Our journey to this moment was not easy, most of it was because of me, for which I will be always ashamed of. There were lots of ups and downs in our ride. We both have to overcome numerous challenges to witness this moment. However, if it means I get you at the end of all those hurdles, then I don't mind facing all those challenges all over again."
"My heart no longer bears emptiness, as you have filled it with love and warmth. You have made me a stronger and happier person. I am not afraid of what the future holds for me, as I know you will be with me."
"You taught me instead of trying to be the best for the world, you have to try to become perfect for one person. So, hereinafter every day I will try to become perfect for you."
"So, Abigail, I vow that I will always cherish you and our love, I will spend rest of my life showing my love to you. I will give you so much love that you will forget every bitter memory..." his voice lightly trembles.
"I vow to always protect you with my life and keep you away from every kind of trouble because my love, you can't deny that you are a magnet to troubles," he chuckles.
"I vow to look after you and to respect you. I vow to support you in your every decision of yours and to guide you when you feel lost. I vow to always stay loyal and faithful to you, and I will never let anything come between us and our love. I will never take you or our relationship for granted, as I know how it feels to live without you and I don't think I can go through that ever again," a single tear escapes his eye, whereas I have lost the count of mine. He swallows hard trying not to completely lose himself as he wipes his sleeves across his eyes.
For me, he is the most beautiful person in the world, as his heart is shining brightly in his eyes.
"I vow to be your lifelong best friend and partner," he says to me then he quickly turns to Natalie who sticks her tongue out to him, "Natalie, I wouldn't even think of taking your spot as I am aware of your amazing batting skills. So I am talking about her second best friend spot, he laughs as well as Natalie and all of us.
"I vow to be the perfect husband and companion to you," he smiles while tears are brimming in his eyes, "I vow to be the perfect dad to our kids," he laughs when he sees my shocked and embarrassed expression.
"I am not suggesting anything. I am just letting you know, that whenever you want I am all up for it. And let me tell you, I am going to be a great dad as I have some best examples around me," he chuckles and kisses my forehead, adding more to my embarrassed state, whereas everyone laughs and cheers for him.
"There are other vows too which I have to make to you," he lowers his voice, "But I think those vows should be made in private, without any audiences, so I will tell you those later," he smirks, with a teasing edge in his voice.
"So lastly in front of everyone, I vow to say this to you every chance I get, starting from now, " he caresses my face as he lovingly looks at me, "I love you."
Nathan's POV
The most beautiful person, my wife, my Abigail is standing before me looking ethereal in her bridal look.
How can I look away, when all I want is right before my eyes?
The only thing which is keeping me grounded is her hands. She is not just holding my hands, but also my heart.
She is trying so hard to keep her emotions in control, but what she doesn't know that these emotions of her are adding more to her captivating beauty. These happy tears in her eyes, the heart-melting smile on her lips, the way unknowingly her grip on my hands tightens when she is attempting to keep herself together... everything shows her love for me. The raw emotions in her eyes are simply alluring because this proves that my heart is not the only one that bears such strong feelings.
"Nathan, I have loved you even before I know you. You are the realistic version of the idea of the husband which I have always loved. You are the one I was always seeking. At last, I finally found you," she looks down and lightly laugh, "Now that I have found you, I will not ever let you go. I can fight with the world, even with you, for you. As I think it is already established I never let go what is mine... and you are mine," she swallows as she peers through her lashes at me.
"Thank you for not giving up on me, when I had given up on myself," she takes a small breath and clenches her jaws together, as tears fill her eyes, "Thank you for instilling the love back in me, the love which was gone... Thank you for teaching my heart to love again when I believed it was not capable of loving anymore. Moreover, thank you for loving me, when I was not even able to love myself. The best feeling in the world is being loved by you. This feeling is inexpressible and I want to spend the rest of my life trying to give words to this feeling," she looks heavenwardly as she blinks away her tears.
I bring both of her hands near my mouth and kiss them, as my own eyes dampen.
"Even though I never need a Knight in shining armor, but still thanks for being my Knight and helping me to fight my inner demons. Every day you give me a reason to love you more and honestly it is hard not to love the man which you have become now."
"You brought such happiness in my life, which thought I will never experience. Moreover, you brought another person, with yourself, in my life and I don't even know when he turned into my brother from your best friend," she peers over Miles, who almost breaks into tears, "So be ready to get your ass whopped by my brother, if you mess with me," she winks at him, making him laugh.
I just love her and all the little things about her. But it is her heart which makes me fall in love with her more. With each moment which I spend with her, I find myself more and more in love with her.
"I vow to give all of myself to you... my heart, my body, and my soul belongs to you," I strongly hold her hands as I feel them trembling, "I vow to love you unconditionally, even when you will annoy me to the point when I just want to kill you," she playfully glares at me, a few more tears slip down her flushed cheeks.
"I vow to always be by your side and share your every burden. I vow I will not let you turn yourself into a zombie when you overwork yourself," she smiles and slowly nods her head.
"I will lend you support and pick you up whenever you will fall. I vow to be the partner you deserve and to honor you and our relationship throughout my life. I vow to always be the source of solace for you, even when everything around us turns chaotic. I vow that along with a wife, you will find a confidante, friend, and lover in me."
"I will never doubt your love and loyalty for me. Because you have proven your commitment to me and earned my trust for the rest of life. I believe in you and I trust you with all my heart."
She tugs my hands and motions me to come closer to her.
"And I vow to personally make sure that you are a good dad to our kids," she says making smile, "But are you sure that it is still possible? I have heard overused stuff doesn't work properly," she keeps her voice low that only I can hear her, turning my earlier smile into a shock.
Quickly, I step back and look at her in disbelief, whereas she is having a hard time to control her laughter.
Only my wife can joke about my overused stuff amid our wedding vows.
"I vow to love you with everything I have and to always protect your heart with mine. To nourish our relationship with love and warmth. And lastly, I vow that whenever I will get a chance I will always choose you because for me it is always going to be you. You are, and will always be, my love, my life, my man, and my soulmate," her lips morphed into a gorgeous smile while tears flow freely down her face.
Everything in me is screaming just to wrap my arms around her and kiss her soft lips, which have spoken every word with so much conviction and passion. She just poured her heart out in front of me. I never doubted her feelings for me, but hearing what she feels for me is something so incredible yet overwhelming that even if I want I can't stop myself from breaking down.
She steps forward and without the care of the world, she wraps her arms around me. I tightly hug her back, like I am shattering into pieces and she is the one who is keeping me together.
After a few moments she steps back, but we keep on holding each other hands. I look expectantly at the officiant as he gives us a warm and kind smile.
"Do you, Nathan, take Abigail as your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do," The words come out my mouth with full conviction as I gaze deeply into her twinkling eyes.
"Do you, Abigail, take Nathan as your lawfully wedded husband?"
"I do."
My lips stretch into a wide smile, hearing these two words from her mouth. The smile she is wearing is so breathtaking and has brightened up my whole existence.
"Can we please have the rings?" the officiant says.
Dylan and Logan come forward performing their job of ring bearer with extreme seriousness. There is an adorable furrow between their eyebrows while they are concentrating hard to make sure the rings don't fall off the pillow as they walk towards us.
They are fraternal twins, but they behave in so much sync just like a mirror effect. It almost made me laugh when once both of them even scratched their head at the same time.
When they reach us, without dropping the rings, there is a big cute grin on their faces.
"We did it!" both say happily looking at each other, satisfied with themselves.
"Yes, kiddos you were so amazing!" Abigail-the auntie gushes over them while she looks down at them with pride.
"Thank you," they say shyly, again in unison.
"Great job!" I sit on one knee to come to their level and raise my hand to high-five them, as Adam takes rings from their hands. They instantly give me high-five and jump into my arms as I hug them.
When I stand up, I see Abigail looking at me with slightly narrowed eyes. At first, I don't understand what is the matter, but soon I realized that the jealous aunt is surfacing. I peek over to Adam who is also tightly pressing his lips together to stop his laugh, I cough into my fist to stop my laugh too.
Immature!
Her expression immediately changes when the twins tightly hug her legs. She crouches down and kisses their cheeks one by one and get little kisses in return. She turns to me with a smug look on her face, as I slowly shake my head at her.
Definitely immature!
"Now you may exchange the rings," the officiant motions to us with his hand.
Stepping forward I take her hand in mine and slip the ring into her finger all while not breaking the eye contact with her. She holds my hand, her hand feels so delicate and dainty in mine, but the hold this hand has on me is so strong and powerful that no one can break it.
She smiles and slides the ring in my finger. The moment my finger wears her ring, there is an overwhelming feeling of elation and satisfaction. Finally, even though there was no about this before, now I truly belonged to her in every sense.
"By the power vested in me, now I pronounce you man and wife," Officiant says with a proud tone, "You may now kiss the bride."
Without wasting a moment I wrap my arm around her waist and pull her towards me, as I secure my other hand behind her neck and take a moment to imprint this moment in my heart. I roam my eyes around her face, taking in every detail of her, then finally my gaze falls on her lips which are demanding to be kissed. I gently capture her lips with mine as I kiss her. She cups my face in her hands as we kiss passionately. This kiss is gentle, but there is an edge of fierceness to it like we are conveying our unspoken feelings to each other. I can taste her tears on her lips, while my heart is overflowing with love for her.
At first, my ears didn't register the sound of the crowd which erupted into cheers around us, as my entire world is in my arms. But when I reluctantly break the kiss I become more aware of the cheering coming from the people.
"So?" I lean my forehead against her, holding her face I wipe away her tears with my thumb.
"So?" she shyly laughs, her laugh sounds music to my ears and warms my heart.
"So, finally it's not complicated anymore," I smile while I notice the dash of pink on her cheeks which I love the most.
"Yeah, not complicated anymore," she smiles and shrugs.
Before we can be separated and people start to shower us with congratulations. I whisk her off and start walking away from everyone, ignoring all the protests coming from our loved ones.
"Still an asshole," I laugh when I hear one particular person's comment. Without even looking I know who this person is.
Somethings can never change.
"Where are we going?" my wife laughs and wraps her arm around my neck.
"Our home," I look down and smile at her as I pull her into a kiss while still carrying her in my arms.
*********************************************************************
