Chapter One - Bullied by Principal Smith!

Chapter One - Bullied by Principal Smith!

Bang.

You'd think that's how every story should start.

With a loud crash, or the clang of swords; metal bending and faces sweating. Not all stories begin with a dramatic entrance. With a prince showing up for the princess.

My tale begins with a simple word.

A word that had changed my life forever.

"Fag!"

Pain flashed across the back of my head, as I clutched it, pulling my hoodie tighter around my stooped frame. My knees collapsed, and I could see a crushed can in front of me. Again...

A sigh left my lips as I stood up, wincing as my head pounded. I barely turned around, looking through my peripheral vision to spot three guys laughing and playing around, every so often shooting me smirks. As I grabbed my things I grit my teeth, walking quicker than before. My sneakers hit the linolium with a squeak. "You better run, Fairy!"

I swallowed the spit in the back of my throat and kept my head down, frowning when I reached my destination. The door was a light brown, with light peaking through the drapes, the old, faded words, Principal's Office, staring at me, mocking me.

I knocked once, twice, when I was given the okay to walk in.

"Mr. Seville, nice to see you." My head lifted up at the mention of my last name. I always hated how normal and boring my name was.

Much like my last name, Mr. Smiths office was as plain as I was. The walls were a soft brown, with posters and picture frames littered quite randomly. Principal Smith sat still on the swivel chair behind his large, organized desk. My eyes fluttered past his picture frame of his plus sized wife, and a stack of papers with the red words OVERDUE.

"Nice to see you too, Principal Smith," I mumbled under my breath. I was trying hard not to feel too claustrophobic.

He had this aura about him that exuded authority. Mr. Smith wasn't very tall, but he was bulky, and that made him all the more scary. His eyes were small, framed by thick brows, and they were always furrowed. His lips were in a tight, straight line, and I couldn't tell if he was happy to see me, or angry.

He was unreadable.

Untouchable.

"Let's get straight to the point, shall we?" he said. I only nodded in conformation. I had wondered why I was summoned to his office. "Right, Mr. Seville, well, this year Mildred High is doing a foriegn exchange student program, and we wondered if you would like to join." I gaped at Mr. Smith. Foreign Exchange?

What?

I cleared my throat, grimacing. "Um, Mr. Smith I havent had any time to think about this." With a wince, I spoke louder. "And I'm not sure if I'm even ready."

Mr. Smith leaned closer to me, his dark expression and shadow covering me completely. A shiver ran down my spine. "You're a good student, Mr. Seville. You have all A's, you have decent behavior, and to top it all off, you speak three languages; wasn't Japanese your eighth grade language choice?"

I shook my head. It was, but that doesn't mean I'd be able to have full conversations with a Japanese person.

"Mr. Seville." The principal growled. "The school has just been notified today of the exchange program. We only have three days to fill out the applications and give them to the company's sponsoring Mildred High. If you decide to do the program, I need an answer NOW."

I swallowed saliva in my constricting throat. Principal Smith was a terrifying man with the will power of stubborn mule. I knew in my heart I didn't want to refuse a man with biceps that could possibly crush my skull.

"You aren't the only one that was offered. If you go, Jade Dickson was also offered to go. You won't be alone."

My eyes widened. Jade Dickson?

"Mr. Seville. Would you like to go?"

I was silent for a moment, when I let out a tiny squeak of a response. "C-could you give me awhile to answer?"

He glared and pressed his hand down onto the OVERDUE print. "No."

"U-um...I-uh," I stuttered. Mr
Smiths lumbering figure loomed over me threatening.

"Mr. Seville, I will ask you once more. Would you like to join the Foreign Exchange program?"

"Yes sir!"

No one would dare say no to Principal Smith. No one.
