|Welcome to 'It's an Esper's World!
It's a project I've been waiting to post for a while
so I hope you enjoy!|
SHE WAS FALLING.
Her perception of time distorted, everything slowed down until there were nothing, only her and the sky above, the sky that seemed to swallow her whole. Her hand reached out as if trying to grab at the sky, grasping the endless crevasse of blue. Everything was a blur, a blur that swirled out of existence. Suspended in the air, she closed her eyes and surrendered herself into the infinite sky above.
That's what Alex reminded himself day and night.
He surprised himself with the heartfelt scream that tore through his throat as he scrambled to the fragile body of Evanora Coleman. His Evanora Coleman.
"Come on Evie... Evie, wake up... Smile for me... Please..." But those words fell to deaf ears as it was too late.
Too late to save her.
Then it was the dragging he remembered. How he had lifted her to his shoulders. How Alex couldn't feel her warm breath on his neck as he stumbled out of the forest and to outskirts of the city. He tried to scream out for help but what came out was a weak sob.
On occasions, he would have tripped, twisting to make sure that he would feel the impact and not the fragile girl carried in his numb arms.
Even now, he was numb. From shock. From the harsh reality.
The funeral was worse.
Imagine the day that your ashes become one with the wind, the people witnessing it crying happy tears because they knew you were in a happier place. That didn't happen for Evanora Coleman. She was dolled up in attire that Alex knew that she would never dream of wearing. Trapped in a coffin. And lowered into the Earth that she had tried so desperately to escape.
The vast majority of the people who had attended the funeral were either there because of her mother, Jade Coleman, who was an important figure in the Esper's council. Or the others were...
"Alex Miller, you were close to the teenager Evanora Coleman, any opinions on her death?"
"They are rumours that you and the girl Evanora Coleman used to date, can you please confirm?"
"Alex Miller!"
"Alex Miller please answer our question for the people at home!"
"Alex Miller!"
"Alex Miller where are you going?!"
"Do you think her death was planned to raise awareness of the discrimination against Espers?" Alex wasn't sure how that reporter survived the small trouble he caused by asking that question. If you hadn't guessed already the remainder were hungry pigeons eager flocking the funeral frantic for a new 'scoop' or something more to add to their 'blogs'. How would you people say it, 'the tea was spilt'?
The family themselves, who were dressed in black, were never too far from each other. It was scary. All three shared the same monotonous expression and moved as one. Which was scary. You wouldn't see the twins without their mother and you wouldn't see the mother without what was left of her family.
One of the twins, Alex thought she was Chelia, had to be pulled aside as her scopophobia was resulting in a panic attack. And instead of just her sister following, the whole trio left the dismal scene. They moved as one. And it gave off a way of unity and power that Alex always admired.
"We have all come today, to remember to cherish, the moments we've shared with my best friend, my sister from another mother and everyone's light which was, which is Evanora Coleman. All I can ask of her now is that she better be enjoying her life up there because I wouldn't forgive her if she isn't getting the best afterlife she deserves," Karma paused to wipe her tears, chuckling softly.
"She fought what she believed in and suffered because of it." Alex winced as if the words were punches to the gut.
"Nesper, Esper or an Halfie, this is wrong on so many levels. She never used her powers, her gift against others. She went to school. Did everything rig—" she stopped herself abruptly upon noticing a figure enter the church.
"Your speech was nice, continue," the person spoke softly, the fondness evident in their tone.
Everyone simultaneously turned their heads. Cameramen adjusting their cameras so that the small figure could be seen fully to the people at home.
"Taylor?" Karma's face held a lot of emotions, the most evident was pain or relief. Alex wasn't good with emotions.
Alyx gripped the piece of paper, full of scribbles and unfinished sentences.
"So you are telling me this," she made a gesture to the clutched plan. "Was the foetus of that book in your hands?"
Audra gave a feeble nod before making a grab for the plan. But failed. The only reason being the height difference.
"And you found the 'inspiration' in a diary your older sister gave you how many years ago?" Alyx was currently standing on the four poster bed trying to decipher the first line. Audra was quick to take advantage of the situation and lunged for the younger's wrist.
With a small "Aha!" she twisted the wrist but was too late for the blow to the stomach she received.
"And you are one of the top students in EA," Alyx sneered, snorting when Audra gave her a 'Yeah, so are you' look. How Audra never falls off the bed was out of pure luck. Alyx laughed and continued her reading, all the while Audra gorging every reaction and biting her lips as the silence was unlike Alyx.
"You are giving a forgotten event justice in this piece. That's brave for a coward like you," That earned a shy smile and an eye roll.
"I promised not to use my power against you but I will zap you." Alyx stared at Audra as if she had grown ten heads. They looked at each other before laughing. Alyx falling beside her best friend and squealing as Audra decided to tickle the life out of Alyx.
