>Chapter Four< Cecilia

Ms. Lisa ran over to me, her eyes worried. "Are you okay, Cecilia?" She asked me.

I couldn't even nod. I wasn't going to lie. I couldn't move my leg, my hip hurt so badly. I just bit my lip and tried my best to make a motion with my head that would look like I was shaking it.

Ms. Lisa looked around at the people in the gym. "Isaac! You take her to the nurse."

Isaac's eyes widened. "Do what?" He asked.

Ms. Lisa narrowed her eyes. "Isaac, take Cecilia to the nurse. Now."

Isaac blinked like he couldn't believe he had been chosen for such a small task. Or maybe he couldn't believe that he was going to have to support me all the way down the hall.

"I can take her, Ms. Lisa!" Nala said, running over to me. Ms. Lisa shook her head. "No, you can't, Nala. You don't have enough credits in health right now. If you don't stay for the rest of this class, you won't have enough credits this year."

"Aw, come on!" Nala complained. "Can't you just let it slip by?"

"Actually, I am letting it slip by. If you leave today you're six credits short. I'll let you pass with five short, but no more."

Nala blinked, like she hadn't realized how many P.E. classes she's missed. She liked to skip P.E. a lot. She hated running.

I, on the other hand, suck it up. Yeah, I get hurt. I get hurt literally all the time. But I also want to have enough credits to graduate, and they don't count it against you when you're hurt so badly that you can't move.

"Isaac. Here. Now." Ms. Lisa ordered, her voice unusually stern.

Isaac walked slowly over to me, as if he couldn't move his legs. "Move!" Ms. Lisa yelled at him.

Isaac jogged over to me and shot me a venomous glare. I shot him one back. I didn't like this any better than he did.

Okay, maybe a little.

But not that much!

Isaac put his hand under my arm and yanked me harshly to my feet. I bit my tongue to avoid squeaking.

I wrapped my arm around Isaac's neck and started to hop out of the gym on one leg, keeping my other one off of the ground as best as I could.

I glanced over my shoulder and caught Nala's eye. She shot me a sympathetic look.
I shot her one back.

"Keep moving." Isaac hissed in my hear, dragging me along.

The walk down the hall felt like an eternity.

"Why are you always getting hurt?" Isaac asked me coldly.

I glared at him. "You think I know why?" I snapped, trying to keep my voice steady. This pain in my hip was getting worse by the second. I needed to sit, or lie down, or something.

"Well you should...and even if you don't, why haven't you gotten it checked out?" Isaac added. His tone made me want to knock his teeth out. He was acting like I was stupid.

"Trust me, I have." I muttered.
"And what did they say?"
"Nothing."
"So what does that tell you?"
"Nothing."
"Well, it should tell you something."
"Like what?"
"It should tell you that you're weak."

I stopped hopping and stared at Isaac, fury boiling in my stomach. My hands were shaking. I pushed him away from me so hard he ended up flying into a wall.

"Weak? Did you just call me weak!?" I screamed at him, limping up to the wall. Isaac stared at me, like he couldn't believe I had just pushed him.

"You don't even know what I'm going through right now! This is hell for me, Isaac!"

"Hey, you're right, I don't know what you're struggling with. But there's no way it's that bad. I think you're just doing this for attention."

That was the final straw. I screamed something at him that I shouldn't have screamed. I screamed something that caused me to clap my hands over my mouth and bite my tongue so hard I tasted blood.

"IT'S NOT FOR ATTENTION, YOU ARROGANT PIECE OF CRAP!"

No, that wasn't the worst part.
There's more.

"I HAVE CANCER!"
