>Chapter Forty-Six< Cecilia

The only thing that kept me from having a panic attack at the hospital was the thought of my date with Isaac.

I was back with my doctor to get checked out, see if I needed another dose of treatment. Nervously clenching the arms of my chair, I replayed the date over and over.

For being three days ago, it was still fresh in my head. From the moment we walked in the restaurant, beautifully underdressed and looking rather childish, to when we walked out, laughing so loud we drew the attention of everyone.

And the little moments, the ones that still made me smile. Like when Isaac had spilled water all over the rolls we were given, or when I took my red knit hat off and got a reassuring smile from Isaac as everyone stared.

Perhaps the funniest moment of the night, however, was when Isaac somehow managed to snag the table cloth in his belt and ended up pulling the entire thing off the table right before we left.

Of course, we stayed to help the annoyed waiter clean the space up, but we were laughing so hard we didn't do much. If anything, we made the entire experience more annoying and drew much more attention than we had ever intended.

The thing was, neither of us cared. We had made some meaningful memories that would stick with us for as long as possible. That was what counted.

I was so zoned out while replaying that night that the doctor had to clap in front of my face to get my attention. I jumped out of my chair and refocused on his face, grinning awkwardly.

"I'm done running the tests." He explained to me while pulling a needle out of my arm. I winced a little bit. "Sorry." He apologized without looking at me.

I tilted my head as he bustled around the room, cleaning up and entering information into the computer.

"Well?" I said eventually. The doctor glanced over his shoulder at me, took a deep breath, and smiled. "Why don't I tell you outside?"

He stood up straight and helped me out of my chair. My knees were shaking. Was he going to give me bad news? Was all of my hope for nothing?

I walked into the waiting room, the doctor following close behind me, his hands clasped behind his back. Isaac, Nala, and my parents were all sitting in chairs, gazing nervously at different points in the small, clean space.

The first person to see me was Isaac. He stood up, ran over to me, and leaned forward. Before he could do anything, however, my dear father pointedly cleared his throat and raised his eyebrows when we both turned to look at him.

Isaac's face turned red. He uncomfortably walked back to his chair and slumped into his seat. My dad's mouth twitched a little bit. I scowled at him.

"What's the news?" Nala asked eventually, getting straight to the point. She blew a bubble with her gun and popped it with her tongue, then continued to chew it loudly.

The doctor sighed. My mom leaned forward a bit in her seat as he began to speak.

"Well, Mr. And Mrs. Kee, it looks like your daughter has..."

He paused for a moment, then he grinned widely. "...gone into remission!"

Isaac and Nala both yelped with joy, jumping up at the same time to hug me. My mom and dad let out sighs of relief, then began to cry on each other's shoulders. As I hugged Nala and Isaac, I started to cry too. Tears of joy. Something that I wasn't expecting to do that day.
