Forever - Für Immer (Germany x Reader Songfic)

Hey! Welcome to Für Immer. Before I go about telling the story, I would like to say that this story revolves around a real life tragedy that occurred on May 6th, 1937. While this is not the most romantic setting, it is one my plot revolves around, and I mean no disrespect to anyone connected to the event.

Keep in mind that countries are hard to kill and can withstand much.

Just in case media doesn't work:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ich hab' heute nacht unsere Flagge gehisst - Tonight I hoisted our flag

Und habe Wind gesäet - And have sowed wind

Oh Gott ich hab diese Brandung vermisst - Oh God, how I missed this surf

Schau wie der Wind sick dreht - Watch how the wind turns

Ludwig wistfully viewed his home country, as the sun outlined the skyline of Frankfurt, Germany. The Hindenburg floated lazily on the launch platform. Ludwig watched his lovely girlfriend, (Y/n), gaze at the mosaic of homes and shops below them. He smiled slightly and examined the little black box concealed in his pocket.

Ludwig had bought both of them tickets for his famous Zeppelin as an anniversary gift. Both halves of the couple were absolutely ecstatic to take the journey to America.

The couple was situated in an elegant cabin on the Hindenburg. It was furnished with wooden tables shrouded by crisp white table cloth, paired with cherry red chairs. Bright lights shone down from the ceiling, twinkling upon the silver plates and pristine wine glasses. However, The two had chosen an outlying cherry booth.

They would began sailing the great blue sky at any moment.

Setz die Segel - Set sail

Komm an Bord für immer - Come on board for ever

Nimm meine Hand ich lass dich nie mehr allein - Take my hand, I'll never let you be alone anymore

Komm tauch mit mir in die Ewigkeit ein - Come, dive with me through eternity

The engines eagerly roared to life. Ludwig's stomach fluttered with anticipation, but there was something sinister underneath the excitement, waiting to bite, it made his hands tremble furiously. He cast a warm glance at his girlfriend, (Y/n). They had been together so long, he knew just her presence was enough to send a warm calm over the cabin, like a blanket over his icy demeanor. (Y/n) reluctantly pulled away from the amazing view below and sent an elated smile towards Ludwig.

Ludwig embraced her smaller, warm hand in his larger, calloused ones, intertwining his slender fingers in hers. He shut his blue eyes and reclined on the seat. His fears were tranquilized by her love, but they still remained, lurking...

Die Welle kommt es ist längst ander Zeit - The wave is coming, time has come

Das Wasser türmt sich auf - The water is stacking up

Ich kapp das seil und du machst dich bereit zum letzten Stapellauf - I cut the rope and you are getting ready for the last launch

Ludwig snapped his eyes open. The pit in his stomach had reemerged along with a peculiar stench wafting into the cabin. It was an odor he knew well. Smoke.

Ludwig rattled his partner awake. (Y/n) let out a small, displeased whine.

"What is it? Are we landing?" She murmured, still under the potent trance of deep sleep.

"Not in the usual way."

The exhausted mumbling of passengers soon transfigured into alarmed shouts and piercing screams.

Flames licked the walls of the cabin. They crawled along the floors and stalked to the edges of the ceiling. The encroaching threat was too swift and strong to be extinguished.

(Y/n) shot up in her seat. She was meet with waves of heat like an oven. Ludwig watched painfully as tears welled up in his love's eyes. He cradled her with his firm arms. This was his fault.

Fühl den Seegang - Feel the movement of the sea

Küss das Meer für immer - Kiss the sea forever

The air ship moaned fretfully and swayed. Other passengers clung to their seats in a paralyzed state, others scrambled to the back of the cabin to escaped the torrent of flames devouring everything in the room. Smoke billowed from the seared holes in the wall.

(Y/n) weeped into Ludwig's broad chest. The tears quickly evaporated from the ever rising heat. (Y/n) lifted her head and searched Ludwig's face with her puffy eyes.

"We have to move to the back!" She called over the crackling of burning wood.

"It won't make a difference. This airship is going down no matter what."

"We're going to die!"

"Nien! I will never let anything ever happen to you."

"B-but-"

Ludwig searched deep into his love's eyes. They may have lost their cheerful sparkle to desperation, but they were still as beautiful as gems.

"Do you trust me?" Ludwig asked in a stern unwavering tone.

"What do you mean!?"

"Do you trust me!?"

"Yes! Yes, I do!"

Ludwig swept a lone tear of (Y/n)'s moist cheek.

"Ich liebe dich. I hope you know that."

Ludwig surveyed the flames as they carved scorched paths over the cabin, like fiery vines. He pressed his lips to (Y/n)'s forehead sorrowfully. He retrieved the little black box from his pocket. He ran his thumb over the sleek casing. With only a few movements left, he threw himself over his love's quivering form and waited for the flames to consume him.

Nimm meine Hand ich lass dich nie mehr allein - Take my hand, I'll never let you be alone anymore

Komm tauch mit mir in die Ewigkeit ein - Come, dive with me through eternity

Für immer - Forever

Für immer - Forever

Für immer - Forever

The flames burned holes through his shirt and seeped into his skin. His howls joined the chorus of pained screams that echoed around the room. He endured the flames relentless attack for the woman shivering below him. Frightened beyond comprehension yet still breathing. That's all that mattered.

Der Sturm hat erfass unser sunkende Schiff - The storm has grasped our sinking ship

Ich seh kein ufer mehr - I can't see a shore anymore

Kein fernes Land und kein rettendes Riff - No land in the distance, no deliverance reef

Um uns nur totes Meer - Around us there is just dead sea

Things took a toll for the worst. Ludwig spared some of his valuable energy to look at the destruction that played out before him. The decaying airship was nothing but a husk. The fire carved off the remaining walls. It fried through the wallpaper and into the insulation. Ludwig could see the sun rising on the horizon just as it was in Frankfurt. His red-tinted eyes watered at the sight. He never knew if he would see that glorious star again.

The frame was all that was left of his creation. He knew that even that would not stand forever. He was right.

A shriek could be heard by all. It was not of human origin, it was the desperate cries of metal scraping metal. The shriek was followed by a sound Ludwig would never truly forget. The rushing of wind in his ears.

The wind filled his mind with a haze of thoughts and snatched away his shocked shouting. The tatters of his shirt were ripped from his scarred back. (Y/n)'s features contorted into a frantic wail, but no sound reached Ludwig's ears.

Ludwig gritted his teeth and held (Y/n) tighter, determined to protect her at all costs.

Nimm meine Hand ich lass dich nie mehr allein - Take my hand, I'll never let you be alone anymore

Komm tauch mit mir in die Ewigkeit ein - Come, dive with me through eternity

The couple deftly fell through the sky, plummeting towards their new welcoming party, the pavement. Ludwig watched the ground draw nearer. He scanned the shocked faces of the surrounding crowd. He squeezed the black box clutched in his fist. Ludwig blinked away his tears at mumbled an inaudible 'I'm sorry', before he felt a thunderous crack and it all went black.

Ludwig woke to people crowding over him. Flashes of the cameras blinded him and voices overwhelmed his aching head. Ludwig wiped the ash from his face and sat up in a daze. Questions came flooding in from curious spectators. Ludwig waved off the slew of reporters and spectators. More came pouring in for each person that retreated. Each inquiry was ignored by the anguished German. There was only one thought on his mind and that was (Y/n).

With a shaky start the resilient man stood still holding the black case. The crowd rushed him and threatened to suffocate him with their overpowering curiosity.

"Get back, all of you!" Ludwig hollered over the ramblings of the crowd.

The myriad of voices all silenced under the intimidation radiating off the German.

"Have any of you seen the woman that was with me?!"

His normally firm and commanding voice was cracked by the mention of (Y/n).

An unidentified voice spoke up from the swath of people.

"We saw a woman over there, but she never answered any of our questions."

Ludwig's rage flared. How could they just leave her to die! Ludwig smoothed himself. Now was not the time for thought-clouding anger, he must be reasonable. He had to reach (Y/n).

Ludwig spotted a huddled figure sprawled in the ash. Placing the little black box in his remaining pocket, he broke through the barrier of people and sprinted over the frame of what was once the Hindenburg. The crowd did not attempt to pursue him.

He dashed through the soot, kicking up clouds of ash behind him. Finally he reached (Y/n)'s stirring figure.

He breathed a deep sigh of relief. She was alive. Alive.

Kneeling down, Ludwig tenderly grasped (Y/n)'s hand. It was still warm and full of life.

(Y/n)'s eyes fluttered open to a view of her love standing over her.

"Ludwig?"

Rivulets of water flowed from the grateful German's perfect blue eyes.

"Ja, Ja it's me! I'm here!" He sobbed, lowering his tear stained face to the crook of (Y/n)'s neck.

"I'm fine, dummkopf."

Ludwig chuckled softly and moved to see (Y/n)'s faint smile glowing through the ash caking her face. He removed the small case from his pocket.

"This isn't the way I imagined I'd do this, but... (Y/n), will you marry me?"

Ludwig flicked the lid and popped it open. A golden band was nestled in the center of the container. A large diamond was adorned on the gold. It glinted in the afternoon rays of sun. (Y/n)'s eyes grew wide.

"Yes, of course I will!" (Y/n) replied jubilantly.

Ludwig leaned forward and delivered her a passionate kiss. It was driven by all the fear, love, anger and any emotion in between. Ludwig slowly parted from (Y/n)'s soft lips.

Gently, Ludwig slipped the band of gold on (Y/n)'s finger and whispered in her ear.

"Ich liebe dich... Für immer..."

Nimm meine Hand ich lass dich nie mehr allein - Take my hand, I'll never let you be alone anymore

Komm tauch mit mir in die Ewigkeit ein - Come, dive with me through eternity

Für immer - Forever

Für immer - Forever
