Act VI
The world around The Kid changed in the blink dramatically as he was no longer standing in his parents bedroom. He tried to catch his breath as the room around him slowing materialized in front of him. The stage was lit and everything looked like he remembered. Except there was a slight difference. It wasn't visible to the eye but The Kid could hear in a very familiar song playing just behind the black stage curtain.
"What......what's going on Chris? Why are we here?"
Christopher never answered and it began to worry him.
"Chris? CHRIS!?!?!" He shouted but he still didn't get an answer.
"Some guardian." The Kid huffed as he looked around some more.
He was amazed at how First Avenue looked. It was much brighter and it looked as if the seats at each table had cheetah printed fabric on them. The Kid was quick to realize that yes it it may have been Billy's club but one person ran the show when it came to the entertainment. Stepping out from behind the curtain was is worse nightmare. Morris and his only lackey sidekick Jerome. The was ready to turn and run but soon remembered that they couldn't see or hear him so he stood off to the side of the stage and watched.
"Jerome I want them selling sex! These bitches ain't doinn nothin but sellin hot and sour lemonade!" Morris complained.
"Maybe they need a little.....inspiration." Jerome snickered as he pulled a bag from behind his back.
The two looked at he other and grinned as they chuckled.
"Jerome. Go get out new act." Morris said followed by a bird call laugh.
Jerome went back stage and to get the a group of girls and two of them to Kid's surprise were faces he knew all too well.
"Wendy. Lisa. What are you doing with Morris?" He whispered as he looked on.
"I think you already know the answer to that gorgeous." He heard a voice say above him on the speakers on stage.
The Kid looked up surprised but happy to see Christopher return out of the blue. The Kid knew that if he asked what was going on he would get some type of smart comment but he had asked Chris anyway.
"Why are Wendy and Lisa in Morris' group? They know that he's only gonna exploit them for money not the music."
"Well my fine feather headed friend since you aren't around and Billy needed a hot new act to bring more people in Morris decided to revamp his girl group. And guess who made the cut?" Christopher replied pointing over to Wendy and Lisa who looked annoyed that they were being treated like sex symbols and not musicians.
That wasn't all that changed. BrownMark was sitting off to the side practicing on his bass in a dark corner when Morris called him over and demanded that he either play his solo right or he can hit the bricks. BrownMark simply rolled his eyes and defiantly and purposely played three chords in his solo wrong just to piss Morris off even more.
"Look now. I ain't got time for yo shit Mark! Do it right or you'll be swimming in a dumpster soon too!"
Wendy being the hot head that she was shot at Morris about the way he was treating mark as well as Lisa and herself.
"Morris nobody wants to be here! This isn't real entertainment and you know it. You won't even bother to pay us anyway!"
"Shut up girl! Or you can join him!" Morris yelled.
Wendy said nothing more and just rolled her eyes. Morris walked over to Jerome who was taking notes.
"Jerome. Go and find my honey Jill. She'll be a fine ass-et.....to the group." He squawked.
The Kid's face went pale as his eyes widened.
"No." He whispered to himself.
The Kid backed away from the stage and slowly made his way to the door and Christopher was confused.
"Hey. Hey where are you going?" Christopher asked him.
"I'm gonna go find Jill and convince her not to join Morris' group." The Kid shouted as he ran out the door.
Christopher disappeared from the speaker and appeared right in front of The Kid and scared him.
"Will you stop fucking doing that!?!?!?" The Kid yelled at Christopher.
"Aaahhh that never gets old!" Christopher laughed.
"How about I beat the hell outta you how bout that?" The Kid hissed as he gripped Christopher up and slammed him against the wall of First Avenue.
"Ok ok! I got it! Damn! Ya ain't gotta grab a man by his silks! That just my get yo sexy ass killed."
Thunder clapped softly in the distance and once again Christ had made God mad.
"Sorry. What I meant to say was gosh darn it don't touch me! Now what are you doing?"
"I need to get to Jill." The Kid insisted as he tried to find a fast way to get to her apartment.
"What are you so pressed about her for? Didn't she leave you for being prettier than her?" Christopher joked.
"Look man I'm tired of your shit now get me to Jill or I'll go without you!"
"I can't even if I wanted to."
"Why not?!?!?!"
Christopher sighed and showed Kid his watch.
"My time here is almost up and I still have to get you home in time before midnight. So either you figure it out on your own or you don't go. That simple."
The Kid was rather pissed off that he was now stuck in a situation that he felt like wasn't going to get solved with help from Christopher. The doors to First Avenue flew open and out came Morris and Jerome. They were about to get into a waiting car when Morris shouted back at the group inside.
"And when I come back we really gonna have some asses wigglin' and jigglin'!"
Jerome closed the door and helped Morris inside to a waiting car. Christopher looked over and smiled as Jerome closer the door and got into the front seat closing his door. The car slowly began to pull away as they both watched. Christopher just stood and shook his head with a grin.
"Tricky. What are you doing with your life these days?" He chuckled and crossed his arms.
The Kid was annoyed that Morris was already steps ahead of getting to Jill and Christopher seemed to not be bothered. He stormed off in search of a way to get to Jill before his rival did. He rounded the corner to an alley way that was just behind the club and right in front of his very eyes was what looked to be his motorcycle but the only difference was that it wasn't Purple.
"Aww yellow beautiful! Hey Chris!" He called as he happily mounted the bike.
He found the keys were still in the ignition and wasted no time starting it up and racing from the alley nearly running Christopher over.
"GOD DAMNIT!" Christopher shouted as he jumped out of the way.
Almost instantly Christopher was struck in his neck by a shocking thunderbolt.
"Aaaaaahhhh!" He shouted as he rubbed his neck from the pain.
The thunder rumbled loudly and even The Kid knew that he was on God's last nerve.
"Stop pissing him off then maybe he wouldn't strike you." The Kid snickered at him.
"Shut up!" Was all Christopher said before looking up at the sky giving his boss an earthy side eye.
"Come on. We gotta go." The Kid commanded as he revved the bike again.
"I'm not getting on that thing. You might mess up my silks." Christopher hissed.
"Either get on or I kill you." The Kid shot back.
"I told you I'm already dead."
"So? You're in my world now and what I say goes! Now come on!"
Christopher rolled his eyes and got on the back of the motorcycle. He was afraid that he would ruin the fresh white garments on his angelic body riding through the wet streets of Minneapolis after the snow had melted down from earlier in the day.
"Don't you get me all dirty. Angels need to be clean and pristine. These silks were made by God's hands." Christopher scoffed at The Kid who was at this point ready to leave him behind.
"Please. It's a polyester soy blend. It ain't real silk." The Kid shot at him before slamming on the clutch and zipping away down the street.
The Kid purposely hit a small pot hole filled with water which splashed on the left leg of Christopher's heavenly garment.
"Damnit Kid!" He cried as they sped through town.
The Kid could say nothing but only smile and think that it served Christopher right. It wasn't much longer when the two had finally pulled up in front of Jill's apartment. The Kid let out a sigh of relief knowing that Morris and Jerome didn't get there yet due to not seeing Morris' all white Mercedes. Chris and The Kid quickly got off the bike and ran up the steps and through the door and raced to the third floor of the building hoping that something could change before Christopher's time on earth was spent. Once there The Kid was about to step inside Jill's apartment when he heard the voice of a man standing just on the other side. The door came open and he was standing face to face with Morris Day himself. The Kid swore that he was having an intense stare off with Morris but he just walked right through him. The Kid looked back and watched him leave the building then went inside to check in on Jill. She made her descent to her cream colored sofa as tears fell from her eyes. She was left with a decision that she didn't want to make. Either join Morris' group or lose her home. Sure she was getting at exposure but was the money worth her soul? Jill was feeling as if the world was coming to an end and time for Christopher and The Kid was surely running out. The Kid couldn't bare to watch the pain grow on his loves face.
"I gotta get out of here." The Kid said sadly.
"But what about Jill?" Christopher asked confused.
"I can't help her even if I wanted to! What can I do if she can't see or hear me? You just proved to me that no matter what I do the world is better off without me in it. Just......just take me home."
"But Kid-"
"I don't wanna talk about it damnit just take me home!"
Christopher jumped back an inch or two after The Kid lashed out at him. Then his face changed from surprised to disgusted. The Kid was just inches from walking out the door when Christopher magically and very angrily popped up in front of him.
"Now wait just a minute you whiny wimpy crying ass bitch-"
God had sent a loud roll of thunder through the city of Minneapolis that was so strong that it scared Jill and shook her apartment building.
"Nah! He needs to hear this!" Christopher shouted up to the ceiling.
"You think this is affecting just you! Glee PL guess what! It ain't! All of this is affecting the lives of everyone you know and everyone is unhappy. Know why? Because of you!"
"So why are you stopping me?"
"Because I'm trying to show you that the lives of the ones you touched will be affected by your absence. You got some serious growing up to do. Look at what happened to your band. Jill. Your mother."
The Kid's eyes opened wide when Christopher mentioned his mother and the memory of her sitting at her vanity crying for the longing of a child had soon made him realize that his angel was right.
"Let Jill see me." The Kid said excited as he was hit with an idea.
"Huh?"
"You heard me. Let Jill see me."
"NO! That's not how this works!"
"Look you have just enough power to do it before midnight."
Christopher huffed and looked at the band on his arm. He raised his eyes up at The Kid and tried to figure out how he knew that it was just enough.
"How long sweetness?" Christopher giggled.
"Two minutes."
"That's all!?!?!"
"Are you gonna do it or not?"
Christopher pressed a button on the side of his device and The Kid became visible to Jill. The shock of a stranger appearing out of thin air was the craziest thing that had happen to her. She slowly stood up from her sofa and went up to him as the feeling of Dejavu was corrupting her mind.
"Do.....do I.....know you?" She asked The Kid in a near whisper.
"Maybe from a dream?" She continued walking towards him and reaching her hand out to touch him.
"We'll meet again my love. Just sat that you love me when we do." The Kid replied as he began to slowly fade away from her.
"Wait!" She called and tried to touch him but in a blink he was gone out of sight.
Although she couldn't see him anymore The Kid was standing in front of her and waited her tears fall from her eyes.
"I will." She said as she dropped her right hand back to her side and soon realized that she was once again alone.
The Kid turned to Christopher and nodded.
"Smooth. Now let's go. Time's up."
Christopher tapped on his wristband three times and seconds later it was a bright and sunny Christmas morning and The Kid had shot up out of his bed in a cold sweat. He looked frantically around in hopes to find Christopher but he was nowhere in slight.
"Chris?" He called but failed to get an answer.
Throwing his covers from his legs he got up and got dressed quickly and ran out to his bike. He was never so nervous and his thoughts were racing a mile a minute. Once he revved the engine he sped across town to First Avenue. When he got there he couldn't believe his eyes. The Revolution were together again and Jill was standing on stage with them. The Kid was never so excited to see everyone.
"It was all a dream." He said to himself.
"Well don't just stand there jackass get on up here!" Lisa said to him playfully.
The Kid ran up on stage and gave Jill a hug.
"Hey. Did I ever tell you how much I love you?" She asked.
"Well gee yesterday you refuse to marry me."
"That's because I didn't want to ruin the surprise."
Jill gave The Kid a small box with the very same ring with their names engraved inside.
"But-" The Kid tried to explain.
"Yes. My answer has always been yes." She whispered to him before leaning in to kiss him.
Just as our lips touched BrownMark snapped a guitar string accidentally from adjusting it a little too far.
"Damnit!" He hissed as he looked up at The Kid who was surprisingly smiling at him.
"It's ok man. Every time a guitar string snaps a gigolo gets his dap." The Kid said as he looked up at the rafters and saw a happy Christopher with his halo and wings.
Chris gave The Kid two thumbs up and faded away.
"What are you smiling at up there?" Jill asked.
"Nothing! Come on let's get out of here." The Kid said as he kissed his future bride.
The Revolution went on to be a famous band and The Kid was married a year later.
