Act V
The Kid felt like he was looking at himself from another dimension. The perplexity of what he was seeing was scattering his thoughts. He stood up from the bed and continued to gaze upon what he felt was his doppelgänger from another realm. He raised the gun slowly pointing the barrel at a now smirking and unphased Christopher.
"You ain't gonna shoot me with that thing buddy." Christopher stated as he munched away on the bag of chips in his hand.
"Who are you?" The Kid asked still pointing the gun at Christopher.
"I already told you. You're guardian angel." Christopher replied with another crunch of a chip.
The Kid still didn't believe him.
"I'll ask you again. Who are you? And I want the truth." He said to him with more bass in his voice.
"I ain't gonna repeat myself girlfriend." Chris snickered.
"Then I guess you wanna bullet buried in your brain. Now who are you!?!?"
"First of all. Ya ass is as soft as this cheap mattress you've been fucking on. Secondly you can't kill someone.....that's already dead."
The Kid was puzzled by still didn't let his guard down.
"Bullshit if you were dead then how come you ain't got no glow or something? Since you call yourself an angel."
Before his very eyes Christopher disappeared and reappeared behind him. Christopher pushed The Kid's arm down as he chuckled.
"You can't shoot me! I told you. I'm dead! Someone's already did what you wanted to do just now. So you can save your peashooter pellets and listen up."
The Kid was startled from Christopher pushing his arm down from behind him and he fell back down on the bed.
"How did you do that!?!?" He shrieked.
"Boy if I gotta say it one mo time!"
"Ok ok! You're an angel! I heard you! Just.....don't do....that again."
Once again in the blink of an eye Christopher disappeared and reappeared back in his original position at the head of the bed.
"Do what?" Chris giggled as he began to tease The Kid.
"That! What the fuck!"
"Calm down captain crybaby. There's a reason why I'm here."
"Then why are you here? Intruder."
"BITCH! I'm here to save your miserable ass life! I know what the situation is with you my friend and offing yourself ain't the way to do it. You gotta think about the bigger picture. Since your a.....rockstar and all."
"Keep the insults to yourself. You don't know anything about me to even try to say anything about how miserable my life is."
"I know your lady left you and rejected your proposal."
The Kid's face nearly went pale as Christopher smiled. He was beginning to believe that his new found friend was telling the truth.
"If you're an angel.....then where's your-"
"Didn't get em yet. But don't worry I'll get them tonight because of you!"
"Me? Why me? How can I help you get your wings?"
"Well my long haired beauty.....you want something. So... what do you want?"
"More like what don't I want." The Kid said in a melancholy tone.
He sat back down at the end of his bed with his pistol still in hand.
"Jill just.....left me. It was like she took a part of my soul that can never be replaced. The band is complaining about the new sound. And Billy......who am I kidding. You know? These last few hours alone have been nothing but pure hell! Sometimes.....sometimes I wish that I've never been born."
The Kid let out a deep sigh as he looked out the window at the moon. That was all Christopher needed to hear but before he got to work he decided to play deaf for a little bit just for confirmation that he heard him right.
"What did you say?" Christopher taunted.
"I wish I've never been born." The Kid replied again.
"Come on? Say it again! This time say it louder."
"I said.....I wish I'd never been born."
"Louder!"
"I wish I'd never been born! Damn!"
"As you wish!"
Christopher snapped his fingers and the world around them changed in an instant. The Kid soon realized that their surroundings didn't change by much. Once the air around them settled down The Kid soon became very unenthused. He found that he was still at home in his basement bedroom. The only difference was that the drawings on the walls were gone and all of the figurines of puppets as well as masks were missing. It was a subtle difference but it still nothing short of confusing.
"Some angel." The Kid scoffed as he made his way to the steps.
"Check ya attitude sweetness!" Christopher sassed back to him as he followed behind him.
When The Kid made it upstairs he noticed big changes throughout his home. There was designer furniture in the living room. The walls were a blinding white in color and frames of gold albums cascaded them. The silk curtains that hung by the window was nothing he knew his mother would buy. The kitchen looked newly renovated with a appliances and tile flooring.
"What happened here?" The Kid asked as he continued looking around.
"I'm guessing ya daddy wore his Jimmy for his Johnson!" Christopher snickered.
The Kid turned quickly to Christopher angry.
"Why would you say that? For an angel you're a real asshole."
"Because! You wished you were never born so! Wish granted!" Christopher said with a bow.
"What????" The Kid replied shocked.
"That's right! Welcome to the home that you....don't.....have."
The Kid was amazed at how bright his home looked. He never saw it so bright and cheerful. It felt like love filled the rooms ten times over. He was about to asked his guardian angel another question when he heard the sound of laughter coming from the other side of the door that lead out to the driveway.
"Shouldn't we hide or something?" The Kid asked fearfully as he began to look around for a place to get out of sight.
"No jackass! They ain't gone see us!" Christopher hissed.
The door came open and in steeped his mother and father. They were different. They were happy. His father was alive and well! His mother couldn't keep her smile hidden from the world. They looked like the happy couple that The Kid had always wanted them to be.
"What's gotten them so happy? I haven't seen Ma smile in years."
"Those Jimmy's come in handy when your a famous Jazz musician without a kid like you to get in the damn way." Christopher said as he placed his hands on The Kid's shoulders from behind him.
"You sure you ain't going to hell?"
"Nope! If I was I'd already be there and not here with you!"
"Well maybe you should tell whoever hired you to send you there."
The angel mocked his pouty companion from behind his back and as looked at the man and woman slow dancing in the middle of the living room floor.
"They're actually able to stay in the same room without getting into a fist fight. What changed?" The Kid asked.
"I already told you. Without you around your dear old daddy was able to get his career off the ground and ya mama's fine ass-"
The clap of thunder roared just outside of the house letting Christopher know that he's still being watched and is on God's time. He closed his eyes and restated his thought.
"Your dear sweet mother wouldn't be able to enjoy her life with her new wealth. Now that your dad has the career that he wanted instead of him hitting rock bottom not only did his records sell like hot cakes but he was also heavily requested as a songwriter. So you see without you they were able to live......well....at least pops was."
"What are you talking about?"
Christopher snapped his fingers and in seconds they had appeared in The Kid's parents bedroom. His mother sat at her vanity removing her makeup from her face and once she was done she looked at herself intently. She placed a hand on her stomach as a single tear dropped from her eye. The Kid was confused.
"She's......pregnant.....with me?" The Kid asked.
"HA! Please! Ya Pops was so interested in his career that he didn't want kids at all! Sure she was happy for him and the fun they had together but she sacrificed her own happiness for him. She always wanted children but he hit big he changed her plans for her and they n vet talked about it again. Now she sits every night.....after every party and cries all alone."
This made The Kid very sad. He walked up behind his mom and tried to touch her but he was struck with fear when she looked up in the mirror and he swore that he was caught.
"She can't see you Kid. Remember you don't exist." Christopher reminded him.
The Kid proceeded to place a hand on her shoulder.
"He'll come around Ma. One day." He whispered to her.
He leaned in and kissed his lonely mother even though she couldn't feel his affection he knew it would have meant a great deal to her to be loved by someone other than her husband. The Kid turned to Christopher and pleaded for him to take him out of this lavish hell but the night was far from over.
"Dontcha wanna see the band?" Christopher asked.
"What for? All they do is argue all the damn time!"
"Ahhhh wrong again. You would be happy to see them argue with each other after tonight." Christopher said with a grin.
"Oh yeah? Why's that?" The Kid snapped.
"You'll find out soon enough." Christopher replied.
Chris snapped his finger and off they went to the one place where The Kid's rise to fame first began. First Avenue.
