Act IV

Once upon a time there was a bad boy turned angel named Christopher Tracey. He lived high up in the clouds in heaven as God's second in command. He was once a selfish gigolo who who had proclaimed himself an honest man after falling for the rivière's richest girl Mary Sharon. Before he was able to confess his love and true feelings for her he was shot in the heart. He's been in heaven for the last 40 years and he has yet to earn his wings. Angels have gotten missions from the man himself and earned their wings within days of entering the golden gates sand he was growing tired of being what he moans about "Mr. High and mighty's errand boy." As he sat around lazily in his mansion of all white he was summoned by God to see him regarding an urgent matter. Christopher huffed and got up off of the sofa dragging his feet all the way. When he reached the house of God he took a deep breath and pushed through the doors. Christopher used to be nervous whenever he was called by God but he's been called so many times he was at times beginning to wish that it was somebody else being the second. He finally met with God who was sitting in a chair behind what appears to be a huge book.

"You wanted to see me your......Godliness?" Christopher questioned.

"Yes my child. I have a job for you that requires your utmost attention." God instructed to him.

"My attention? Is this about the time that I accidentally set a cloud on fire? I told you if Mr. Afro sheen shouldn't have tried to light the candles while he had me spraying him up it wouldn't have happened! I kept telling him it was a bad idea but-"

"Silence!" God interrupted as the thunder loudly rolled around them making Christopher nearly jump out of his skin.

"Was all that necessary?" He sassed back.

"There's no time to discuss previous mischief. I have a job for you to do and only you can do it." God replied.

"With all due respect sir, but don't you think I should do a job that has more.....weight to it? Something that will earn me my wings? I'm doing all the things that would get me wings in a heartbeat but-"

"This task has great weight indeed. You've been wanting to earn your wings and now you can." God interrupted once more.

Christopher seem pleased with what God had said and was eager to get the details of his new task.

"Great weight huh? Ok! We'll lay it on me.....uh....sir." He said reminding himself that he was no longer on earth.

  "Come this way."

Christopher followed God into a room that was cloaked with a heavy golden curtain. Behind that curtain was a room that contained a massive glass orb. The orb was as huge as God but way to big for Christopher to look at. Christopher was amazed at how huge and how beautiful the orb was. He was so excited that he ran in place overjoyed.

"Oooooooh Weeee! This beauty must have been waiting for me all its life! I just wanna touch it-"

"DONT! Only I can use this orb. Under the wrong hands and it will destroy earth and all the planets surrounding it." God instructed.

Christopher dropped his hands down by his sides and groaned.

"This is ridiculous. Don't touch. Don't say. Don't go. All I've heard since I've been here is don't don't don't. Can I at least hear DO????" He griped.

"You are about to DO as I command because if not you will be exiled out of heaven."

Another thunder clap rolled loudly around them and once again Christopher was shaken up.

"Ok! Alright! So what's this job of yours that your assigning me. Cleaning the  hundreds of heavenly toilets?" He joked.

He looked up and noticed that God wasn't happy so he soon stopped his snickering and cleared his throats before apologizing for his childlike behavior.

"You want your wings don't you my child?" God asked him.

"Well yes sir. More than anything."

  "Look into my orb son."

With a wave of his mighty hand God activated his orb and pictures of people from all over the world flashed across the glass feverishly until the pictures stopped at one. Christopher looked  surprised that the picture of The Kid looked a lot like him.

"Hey! It's me! But......more.....feminine. What in the hell-"

The loud thunder made him quickly rephrase his wording.

"What in......heavens name did he do to my hair!?!?!?" Christopher questioned angrily.

"That isn't you son. That is a musician in Minnesota called The Kid. You see Christopher his Christmas hasn't been going well and now he's....."

"He's what? Crying like the little girl he dreams to be?" Christopher giggled.

"He's going to kill himself at the twelfth stroke of midnight."

Christopher soon saw the seriousness in this mission and wised up.

  "What for?" He asked.

"The Kid was already having a tough day as it was until....."

God waved his hand over his orb and played Christopher the last thing that happened to The Kid just hours ago. Christopher watched as he saw The Kid get his heart crushed by his now lost love Jill after she abandoned him by the Christmas tree and refusing his proposal. Christopher felt The Kid's pain in a way because he was never able to show Mary that he was committed to because a one woman man. All it took was a bullet to the heart to take away all of his hopes and dreams.

"What am I supposed to do sir? I.....I can't make the girl say yes." Christopher said empathizing with The Kid but confused with his task.

"That's not what I need you to do my son. Keep watch on my orb. It will reveal the matter at hand." God explained.

Christopher did what God had asked and watched the orb some more as it faded from The Kid leaving the ring behind and showing The Kid at home in his bedroom sitting at the foot of his bed. His eyes were wet with tears as he sat in the dimly lit and cold room all alone. In his hand was a small pistol and beside him was a small box of bullets. Christopher looked on in fear of what was to come.

"Oh no." Christopher mouthed to himself.

As he kept watching he noticed the clock on the wall just off to the side of The Kid read a faint 11:40PM.

"Wait! You said at the twelfth stroke of midnight. You mean to tell me I have twenty minutes to save this fool from offing himself??? That's almost impossible! How am I gonna go that?" Christopher asked in a frantic state.

"I can't give you the answers child. Only you would know what to do."

"But sir.....how will I know where to find him? How will I know how to convince him that he has more to live for. I'm sure there's more than one dame out there dying to be with him. What is he thinking?"

"He's thinking that he's all alone and that life has no meaning. His thoughts have become dark and without his love by his side he feels abandoned. His dark thoughts are being spoken to him by he who was exiled from heaven many centuries ago. He wanted to be better than all who inhabit here and eventually take my position. I couldn't allow it so I turned him away. He earned his wings but felt as if it wasn't enough. That's why I need you to prove yourself Christopher. I trust you the same way I trusted Lucifer. I hope that you won't let me down."

Christopher felt overwhelmed at first but he knew that earning his wings was all he really cared about. He didn't have any plans to ever take over God's position. He just wanted to be like everyone else around him. Flying high with wings of silk and a bright halo of gold that hovered above his head. He let out a deep sigh and agree to accept the tedious mission whole heartedly.

"Alright. If this will get me my wings.....I'll do it." Christopher said.

"I knew you would." God replied proudly.

God waved his hand over Christopher and out of thin air appeared what looked like a golden watch. It didn't tell time but how much power he had left while helping The Kid down on earth.

"Take this with you. It will let you know how much time you have left. Don't squander it all away or else you can never come back."

Christopher strapped the band around his wrist and looked of at God confused.

  "Never?" He asked fearful.

"Only if you don't complete your mission. Now go son. There isn't much time. Remember to make this about him. Not about you." God said before the whole room around them went black.

"But.....what happens if I....." Christopher tried to ask before God faded away.

"You'll know what to do." A voice said as it faded away.

All that glowed in the darkness was a now lonely and confused Christopher. As he looked at his watch and sighed the world around him once again began to change. The walls became familiar to him as he found himself realizing that he was not in heaven but on earth. His glow was fading to a faint light as the dim and cold background became more visible to his eyes. He looked around and he spotted his mission. Just like the orb showed was The Kid sitting at the foot of his bed sadly thinking what was the point of living if he had nothing to live for. Christopher didn't know what to do to get his attention. He didn't know what to do at all. The only instrument he was given was this watch and the phrase "you'll know what to do." He looked over at the analog clock on the wall and the fear and stunned feeling took over.

  "11:59!?!?!?" Christopher thought to himself.

He looked over to find The Kid loading a single bullet into the gun's chamber and securing it tightly. The safety unlatched and The Kid placed the barrel to his heart. He took a deep breath and was about to pull the trigger when.....

"WAIT!" Christopher shouted from behind The Kid as he sat on his bed confused.

Who was in his room? How did they get in?

The Kid turned to find Christoper sitting at the head on his bed. The Kid thought he was going mad. He was looking at himself?

"Who.....who are you?" The Kid questioned puzzled.

Christopher let out a soft chuckle as he picked up a bag of tortilla chips from the bed.

"I am your guardian angel." He simply said before snacking away on the chips.

Christopher was about to begin his lifesaving mission and The Kid was very confused. Let the journey begin.
