Ch-33 Things Travel Fast
The smell of disinfectant invaded my nostrils; a rhythmic beeping surrounded me. Slowly, I opened my eyes to find myself in a dimly lit, unfamiliar room. I looked around to see Jax and Nick sitting on chairs next to where I was lying.
Hospital.
How long have I been here?
I shut my eyes, trying to remember what had exactly happened. Then it all hit me with a bang. The memory of it all started to occupy my thoughts.
I tried to stifle the groan escaping my mouth as I tried to sit up but failed quite miserably, falling sideways on my elbow. The sound alerted both of my friends, who rushed to help me.
"Easy, Lory," Nick said.
"What the fuck happened?!" I voiced my thoughts and winced at how hoarse I sounded.
"You died in the simulation," Jax said.
"Well, I know that part," I deadpanned.
"The same time there was an attack, we all got distracted, couldn't pull you out in time, turns out you had really outdone yourself, and your vitals were crashing. When they got you out, you were unconscious," Nick explained.
"Oh," I said, taking it all in
"There is, um, there's one more thing," Nick hesitated.
"What?"
"That was two years ago,"
"WHAT?" I clamoured.
No
No no no
This can not be happening.
"And..." Nick hesitated again.
"Say it," I said sharply.
"Argenta is," He trailed off, looking for words.
"She's what?" Panic rose within me, "Is she alright? Tell me she's fine,"
"She's married."
"What?!"
I can't believe this.
She would never do something that stupid.
She's only 18-
Um, 20, but that's still too young to be married!
"Why?"
"Things got serious with her and Sean," Jax stated.
I don't know how to process this.
She's- she's MARRIED?!
To HIM? This is too much.
My Cupcake-
My thoughts were interrupted by loud cackles.
These bastards!
"That was not fucking funny!" I growled.
"Oh, it was. Your face!" Nick laughed and howled, grabbing his stomach.
"Is she alright? Tell me she's fine! BAHAHAHA," Jax imitated me in a terribly high-pitched voice and then laughed at me.
What did I do to deserve these infuriatingly fantastic fools?
Once they stopped laughing, they got me some porridge and juice and resumed their spots on the chairs to chat with me.
"She was here every minute for two days," Nick said.
"Who?"
"Your Cupcake,"
"She was here for two days straight??"
"Yeah," Jax nodded.
"Alone?"
"Yup," Nick said.
"And none of you idiots thought that maybe you could send her back to get some sleep or maybe, I don't know, accompany her?"
"How do you think we got her to leave you?" Nick said with amusement.
"Did she eat properly?" I muttered after a few seconds of silence.
"Reyna made her," Nick stated.
"Good," I trailed off.
The door opened, and all three of our eyes snapped towards the sound on instinct. It was Cupcake.
As soon as she saw me sitting, she grinned, relief flooding her and all but ran towards me and wrapped her arms around me so tight as if Cupcake thought I would disappear if she let go.
"Hey," I smiled, hugging her; and running my hand on her back in an up and down motion, calming her down.
"I'm sorry," She said as she nuzzled her head deeper between my shoulder and neck.
"Why the fuck are you sorry?"
"For making you do it,"
"Shut up. You didn't make me do anything. Don't you dare beat yourself up about something I decided to do,"
"Mhmm," She hummed and held on to me tighter if that was possible.
Can someone freeze this moment?
All I want is to stay like this-
Is someone coughing?
"AHEM! AHEM!" Nick yelled next to my ear, giving me a near-cardiac arrest, and it also caused Cupcake to jump back slightly, breaking our hug.
"Now I know why you're always complaining about being alone with them.," Jax said.
"Right!" Nick enunciated.
"Damn, you guys made me feel like I was invading your privacy. I mean, that hug was so intimate that I thought I shouldn't have been seeing it,"
A deep red blush covered Cupcake's and my cheeks while they complained about feeling like third wheels.
"ARGENTA AVYANNA SILVA!" The door shot open with a bang, revealing a fuming Reyna.
"What did I do?" Cupcake worriedly mumbled while I smiled at how cute she looked when she was scared.
"Do you have something that you wanna tell me?" Reyna inquired with one eyebrow raised.
"Umm, no?" Cupcake said.
"Really?!" Reyna exhaled exasperatedly.
"Hint?"
"Sean! Break-up! Ring a bell?"
"You broke up?!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah, we did. I did." She nodded at me and then turned to Reyna, "And I'm so sorry I didn't tell you earlier; I just went back to the dorm after it happened, and then I fell asleep, and when I woke up, I came here,"
"It's alright," Reyna sighed, "I was so shocked when Priya told me about it!"
"Who's Priya?" Jax asked.
"A friend, she's in Jayus,"
"How did she know?" Cupcake quirked up an eyebrow.
"Are you kidding me? It's the talk of the town! The gossip of Gladys! The scuttlebutt of the school!"
"What?"
"Wowie," Nick said.
"So, why did you break up?" I asked.
Cupcake looked up at me, and something unrecognisable flashed across her eyes, an emotion I didn't know how to put in words.
"We just weren't working out," She shrugged and looked away.
"I don't believe that-" Reyna was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in!" Jax hollered.
The door opened slowly, and a girl peeked through.
"Rose?" Cupcake asked.
"Yeah," The girl nodded and looked around, "Cheesecake?"
What?
"Yeah, I trust them. Come in, have a seat," Cupcake said.
Rose closed the door after checking the hallway for possible eavesdroppers and grabbed a chair for herself.
"Remember how you asked me to tell you if I got to know of anything related to the Fallen?" Rose said, and Cupcake nodded, "I think I have found the mole,"
