Ch-29 Another Assembly, Kinda Good, Kinda Bad
"Sooooooooo, how did it goooo?" Nick sang while waggling his eyebrows as I stomped into our dorm.
"What." I snapped, really not in the mood for anything childish.
"Did you guys kiiiiiiss?" He closed his eyes and made kiss faces.
"Do not remind me of that." I said, disgust lacing my words.
"What?"
"I was just standing there, and she walked up to me. I obviously thought she was there to talk. But NO. She just kissed me out of nowhere." I shuddered at the gross memory.
"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? YOU HAVE BEEN WANTING TO KISS HER SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL!" Nick yelled out, frustrated and confused.
"WHY THE FUCK WOULD I WANT TO KISS NINA?!" I shuddered again.
God, I wish I could erase that.
"YOU KISSED NINA?!"
"SHE KISSED ME!"
"WHERE DID SHE COME FROM?! YOU WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO KISS HER!"
"IT WAS NOT BY CHOICE! SHE LITERALLY GRABBED ME!"
"Hold up, did you talk to Ar?"
"No," I sighed and sat on my bed, "I had told Rey where I would be today. Again. But, Cupcake didn't show up. Again."
"She didn't show up?" He furrowed his brows.
"No, I'll try again tomorrow."
"No, wait. So you're saying, Argenta never showed up, and you kis-"
"Nina kissed me," I rolled my eyes and huffed.
"Whatever!" He stood up, tensed.
"What is wrong with you?"
"Oh my GOD!" He exhaled and started walking back and forth in the room.
"What's wrong?" I asked again.
"Everything,"
"Nick," I stressed.
"Argenta was going to talk to you," He said, and it felt like someone gave me a 440V shock. But a good one. One I wanted to feel. I felt alive. For the first time in so long, I felt like every cell of my body was working at full power. It was like a festival inside my body.
However, short-lived.
"Why didn't she then?" I asked him, realising that he said 'was going to'
Did she change her mind?
Does she still not want to forgive me?
How long will I have to live without her talking to me?
It's so bland!
I'm severely Cupcake deprived.
God, I want to hold her in my arms. Hug the life out of her little body.
Watch her beautiful smile and her dork face after reciting jokes.
How much longer?!
"Maybe she saw you-" Nick said, but rephrased upon being met by my death glare, "-Nina kiss you."
"Oh no," Was all I could utter.
No
No
NO
"So she was coming to talk to me but went away because of that lizard of a thing?!"
"Precisely," Nick said.
"How do you feel about committing a murder tonight?" I shot, fuming. Probably even more than an active volcano.
"I'll call Rey to see if Argenta's there. Then you can talk to her right now," Nick said, and I nodded.
A few seconds later, Nick hung up the phone and faced me.
"She went somewhere," Nick said, looking disappointed.
"Great," I muttered.
I woke up the following morning determined to talk to Cupcake. There was no way I was going another day without hearing my name coming from her mouth.
I got dressed and left for the training ground with Nick.
We expected to see everyone training and practising, but the ground was surprisingly empty.
"Where is everyone?" I said.
"How would I know? I was with you this whole time!" Nick exclaimed.
"Wasn't asking you,"
"Who else is here?"
"Oh, forget it,"
"What are you two still doing here?"
Both Nick and I turned to face the voice briskly only to find that it was Ms Brister's.
"Umm,"
"Assembly hall!" She said, "Run!"
Crap! I forgot about the assembly.
Nick and I ran for our lives and entered an eerily silent assembly hall.
The kids were all there, but no one was saying anything. Hell, they didn't even turn to look at us when we opened the door.
And it only made us more curious regarding what the principal was saying that they were so tense and attentive.
"There have been a few more intrusions and break-ins," The principal continued with her announcement or whatever she was there to do.
Since we wouldn't have been able to go to our squad row without grabbing attention, we just sat in empty chairs at the back of the hall.
"They are stronger this time. The memorisutira are evolving, and they are looking for a chance to attack us. War is coming to Gladys."
"Fuck!" Nick and I whispered simultaneously and looked at each other worriedly.
She then explained how they attack, how they can affect our memories and use them if they manage to cut us. No one in the hall moved a muscle for the next few hours as they all listened to every word carefully.
"We are going to train you more. You will be given new schedules today. We believe in you, students. Together we will fight the Fallen, and together we will win."
With this, the principal walked into the wings, and the hall erupted in loud chatter.
Schedules were handed out to all team leaders, who, in turn, stood up and started distributing them among their squads.
We were still sitting at the back when Cupcake came to us with our schedules.
She gave Nick his sheet without even casting me a glance, then she looked down at the last schedule she had. Mine.
I saw as she exhaled and held out my schedule, looking at her feet.
"Not until you look at me," I said, still looking into her eyes.
She stood for a few seconds before exhaling again and raising her eyes to meet mine.
I took my schedule silently as I felt the air around us become thicker.
She instantly turned around, ready to walk away.
"Cupcake!" I said, and she stopped, "Please look at me," I pleaded.
She turned awfully slowly but turned nonetheless.
"I'm sorry. I really am. I miss you. So much! You know what? Shout at me, slap me, hit me, use me as your personal punching bag, but please, please, start talking to me again. I cannot go any longer without hearing that sweet voice," I walked closer to her and watched as her face softened, "Please let me have my best friend back. I know I was a jerk. A huge one at that. But please forgive me, Cupcake. Please." I placed a hand on her cheek and the other on her waist as she leaned into my touch.
"I forgive you, Lory," She whispered with her eyes closed, "But I swear to God if you ever do that again-"
"I won't," I laughed breathily and hugged her, wrapping my arms tightly around her small waist as I rested my head on her shoulder. Her arms wrapped around my neck, and she stood up on her toes because of our height difference.
At that moment, I felt like the happiest man on the planet. All the sadness I had felt evaporated into nothingness just after a simple hug. Who am I kidding? The hug was not simple in any context. It was one of the best things I had ever felt.
"Lory, I have to go now," She said and broke apart.
"I just got you back! No movie night?" I joked.
"No," She chuckled, looking slightly regretful.
"Heyyy, Loryy," Nina's voice pierced my ears.
"Hi." I turned to face her reluctantly and saw that she was standing way too close for my liking.
"Can I talk to you for a second?" She said.
"Sure." I muttered.
"Alone." She gave Cupcake a look.
Really?!
Ugh!
"That's alright," Cupcake said through a clenched jaw, and her fists were tightened, "I was leaving anyway,"
What happened to her all of a sudden?
"You alright?" I asked her, just to be sure.
"Mhmm," She nodded hastily, "I have to go get ready,"
"For what?"
"Ready for tonight?" A voice came from behind Cupcake.
What the fuck is he doing here now?!
"Yeah," Cupcake smiled as she turned to face him.
"What's tonight?" I asked.
"Our date," Sean said as he wrapped a hand around Cupcake and placed it on her waist, making her smile.
"Your what now?" I exclaimed despite myself.
"I asked her out yesterday, and since we are going to be hella busy these next few days, I'm taking her out today." He smiled, and so did Cupcake.
I can't believe this.
"You're going out with him?" I raised an eyebrow and looked into Cupcake's eyes.
"Yeah," She said feebly, looking into mine.
"Oh." I scoffed.
I felt my heart clench with hurt and jealousy as I watched the two of them smiling. Sean was the reason she was smiling. Not me. And for some reason, it pissed me off beyond limits.
"Well, congratulations, man," I shook hands with Sean as he thanked me. I was beyond mad at him. And myself.
"Loryy, can we talk now?" The lizard tugged at my sleeve. At that point, I wasn't even listening to anything anymore. All of my senses shut off, and all I could feel was my chest getting heavier and heavier, the walls of my heart contracting and contracting until it felt like it had shrunk to the size of a peanut.
"You should go," Cupcake said through a clenched jaw again.
But it wasn't just her who had gritted their teeth. I had too.
I hated everything about that situation. Every-fucking-thing.
Before I could say anything, Sean whispered something in Cupcake's ear, making her let loose and chuckle while all I did was stand there and glare at him.
Then he said something else, and she nodded, so he took her away. And I couldn't do anything as I watched the girl I love leave with another guy.
My Cupcake is going out with Sean.
God, help me.
