Kevin thought he heard broken glass shards raining down on them from above.

“Excuse me?....What?” Kevin couldn’t help his whole body stiffening at Dani’s question. Which to Dani might seem like a red flag but Kevin was genuinely -honest to God- shocked beyond belief.

“Am I not enough for you?” Dani asked.

“Wait, what?”

“What do they have that I don’t?”

“Hold up a second” Kevin pushed his seat back and stood up.

“No, I’m not giving you time to think your way out of this” Dani stood up too.

“There’s nothing to think my way out of” Kevin said, “I’m just trying to grasp what it is…what you are…w-what” he pinched the bridge of his nose.

“We need to work through this” Dani said, ignoring her husband’s babbling.

“There’s nothing to work through!” Kevin accidently yells. He didn’t know what happened but something made him snap, and right now he was looking at Dani with regret in his eyes.

“No need to short circuit” Dani says cautiously. “We can get through this calmly-”

“Listen to me” Kevin shot forward and grabbed both of Dani’s arms. “You’re not making any sense, there is nothing to get through I. AM. NOT. CHEATING. ON. YOU”

 Dani just shook her head as she stares into her husband’s eyes, and at that moment Kevin knew that she didn’t believe him, wouldn’t believe him…didn’t want to believe him. What had happened to her? To them?

Kevin let go of Dani’s arms and let his hand fall back to his side limply. With wide eyes and gaping mouth he just stared at his wife, his wife who thought he was having an affair. He straightened up and turns away from her.

What is he going to do?

Discreetly in the distance Kevin could hear something burning, then he smelt it, but he was so heartbroken-so gut wrenched!- that he even forgot what he was cooking. He reach over grabbed the handle and dumped the content in the sink, letting the water douse the smoke.

She didn’t believe him, the look in her eyes made that clear enough. Dani, the love of his life. He’d never do anything to hurt her, never. What was it that she saw or heard that made her strengthen her resolve? Kevin clearly remembered not having so much as kissed any girl since his eyes landed on Dani. She was his everything, and her accusation cut like a knife.

“Just tell me…” Dani said quietly.

Kevin sighed, “Tell you what?”

“When it started-”

“Good God” Kevin cried out.

“I know it was when I was pregnant!” Dani says quickly, rushing through her husband’s words.

“I am really glad our show didn’t get renewed” Kevin says to no one in particular. “I’d hate to imagine what the internet would do with this”

Knock, knock, k-knock

“I’ll get it” Kevin says with all too much pleasure and relief oozing through his voice.

Dani folded her arms and huffed, but meekly followed after her husband.

When Kevin reached the door Dani was all but breathing down his neck.

“Who is that? Did you invite anyone? We weren’t expecting any one. Who did you call over? Is there something you are not telling me?”

Kevin yanked the door open, “Dani! GIVE IT A REST! I’M NOT CHEATING ON YOU!”

Kevin could plainly feel a vein throbbing in his forehead. He turned to see who was at the door.

Nick, Miley and Olivia were cramped onto the steps, it looked like Olivia was fighting Miley for both sides of Nick so Miley meekly stood behind them. Nick was holding a pink balloon which deflated comically at the awkward moment, he was also holding a teddy bear with matching pink ribbons as the balloons.

“Uh…” Nick just stared at them.

“Congratulations?” the three scared look visitors managed to say in awkward unison.

Miley had been in some pretty awkward situations.

She’d mess up a word or two during her concerts, she once snorted out a milk drink during a first date, she fell during rehearsals of Hannah Montana, she even caught her mom kissing her lead drummer (that was more like a nightmare). But nothing, and she meant nothing, compared to going to your old friends house with his brother who also happened to be your ex, whom you kissed while he was in a happy relationship, and watching said old friend scream at his wife about ‘not cheat’, when they both had a barely 3 day old baby, in front of a clearly cheating couple.

Miley was sure the other two felt the same way, but in different terms. It took all her willpower not to blush at Kevin’s embarrassed look and Dani’s dumbfounded expression.

The silence was stressed and stretched out for too long. So Miley pushed herself between Nick and Olivia to stand at the front. Olivia was reluctant to move aside, probably thinking Miley wanted to stand next to Nick, it was actually sort of amusing. When they first walked out of the car Nick went to the boot to retrieve his gifts for his brother, and while walking up the steps Olivia fumbled and shoved and kept a firm grip on Nick’s right arm. When Miley deflected to the left she wrapped her arm around his left shoulder, a clear indication that she shouldn’t try it. Miley decided to stand next to Olivia but she shifted her legs so Miley thought it was best to just stand behind the both of them.

Miley smirked at the image of Olivia spread out like an eagle around her boyfriend. It nearly made up for the awkward moment they just encountered.

“Where is this baby I hear everyone talking about?” Miley says brightly, only slightly pretending. She couldn’t stand the tension any longer, time to break up the group into manageable pieces.

“Sh-she’s in her room. The nursery” Kevin stammered.

“Then let’s go see her!” Miley walked in and grabbed hold of Kevin’s arm. She tugged him into the house and away from the awkward air at the door.

“S-sure, let’s go” Kevin turn and smile down at Miley, despite the madness that was going on he looked genuinely happy to see his friend come visit his daughter. He turn and led Miley to the stairs, but something at the back of his head kept ringing that what he was doing was wrong.

“Nick, why don’t you give Dani Alena’s gift?” Miley offered, calling over his shoulder as they reached the stairs.

“No” Dani says out of nowhere.

Everyone turned to look at her.

“So she’s the one” Dani says feebly.

“Which one, what?” Nick interrupted.

Dani turn her back on Nick and Olivia and face Miley and Kevin at the base of the stairs with Miley holding onto Kevin’s arm. Miley heard Kevin gulp, she looked up at him and saw something like recognition hit his eyes.

“Dani, enough” Kevin says in a tired voice.

“No Kevin, tell me!” Dani screamed.

“Whoa, what’s going on?” Nick asked cautiously walking into the house.

Dani turned back to face Nick, with so much rage boiling in his eyes he actually took a step back.

“Kevin has been cheating on me!” She had tears streaking down her face, and then she whipped her head to focused her accusatory gaze on Miley. “And Miley’s his mistress”

Okay back to the story.

Dani is so messing up things! What will Nick think!??? And Olivia is acting like a hopeless puppy who doesn’t wanna give up a dead-dried up bone. (Can bones be dead???)

Things are getting heated up and nothing good can come of it.

Poor Miley…..

Why is Dani doing this? What’s going to happen next? And where is Joe???
