Days flew by and the atmosphere around the house changed noticeably. It grew a little tense and awkward since what happened on this one particular night. The two males just do not know how to act around one another that they tried to avoid seeing the other as much as possible. Kind of difficult if they're living under the same roof right?
Well, not really if you're them.
Given the fact that they're flat is one heck of a huge house, Soobin became busier these days that he mostly spends his time working on the office, leaving Yeonjun alone with the place all to himself.
Benefits them both if you'd ask them. They don't have to try hard in avoiding each other that much.
But honestly speaking, it would be pretty nice to have the other's presence around. Even though they're pretending to ignore each other.
Yeah, it's confusing for them too.
Not wanting to see them but also wants to be with them.
Now, that's the kind of shit these two are into.
The couch shifts under Yeonjun's weight when he lied down, trying to find a comfortable position. He's been staring up at the wall for 10 minutes straight now. He has nothing to do. And his mind has been occupied by this certain someone for days that he couldn't seem to focus on what he's doing so staring at the fucking wall is the most he could do.
It sucks.
Whatever, at least he got a reason to sloth around all day.
The world doesn't seem to work that way though. It doesn't go the way you want it to. More on like, you will go the way how the world wants you to.
So Yeonjun, get the fuck up and see whoever is downstairs trying to unlock the door.
But come to think of it, he and Soobin are the only ones who know about their passcode. And Soobin texted that he wouldn't be home until late, so who the fuck is outside that door?
Oh my god.
Is it perhaps, an intruder?
With that in mind and a rapid heartbeat, Yeonjun got up of the couch and grab the nearest item next to him to use as a weapon, just in case.
It just so happened to be a flower vase.
He could just throw it to the person, right?
Whatever, he's doing it now.
Yeonjun took his time to walk out the living room and into the hallway, a couple more steps and he'll be in the den, and at the front door.
He readied himself and raised the vase, casually waiting for the supposed intruder to step forward and come to light.
Oh, and there she comes.
Wait.
She?
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE MOM I THOUGHT SOMEONE TRIED TO BREAK IN!"
___
The mother and child decided to spend a bit of their time at the backyard. They were seated inside the shed which was decorated with vines and flowers hanging around it, and Yeonjun's mom was just happily sitting there with a cup of tea in her hand.
Don't get Yeonjun wrong, he's glad his mother paid a visit but why?
After all the shits that had happened, he couldn't just believe it was out of nothing. Like there's a certain purpose why she's there.
Oh my god. He can't even trust his mom now wtf that ain't right.
"Hey, mom?" he speaks out, finally finding the courage to ask his mother. The woman hums in response, "I don't mean to sound rude or something but, why exactly are you here? Is there something you want me to do?"
His mom lowers the cup down and stares at his son with a wounded look, making him worry and want to whack his head open. "Am I not allowed to visit my son?"
"I don't mean it that wa—"
"I know." She chuckled, putting the cup down on the table before flicking her son's forehead.
Yeonjun whines and pouts at the action.
"But anyway, I'm not here to scold you or tell you things you need to do. Stop making me comes off like a bit—I mean, a female dog."
The younger male gazed at his mom, clearly looking unimpressed.
"You know you could swear around me, right? I'm not a child anymore mo—"
"Hush! You're still my baby~" Mrs. Choi coo-ed reaching out to pinch Yeonjun's face, resulting into a sulking big baby also known as Choi "I'm not a child" Yeonjun.
The parent and child continued to play around for a bit, filling the air with laughter and occasional banter. Making Yeonjun realized how much he misses his mom and how he would like to come home but he can't.
At least, not for now.
A little while later, when Yeonjun's telling a story about the carnival they went to, his mom suddenly said something that caught him off guard.
"I want to meet Soobin. That's why I came here."
"Oh." He shuts his mouth.
Why would her mom want to meet Soobin? Didn't they meet each other already last time at that dinner? Did he do something wrong? Why couldn't she talk to him instead? Why with Soobin? What is going on?
"You're panicking." His mom smiled. "Don't worry, I'm not gonna murder him, just want to talk about something important."
"Why can't you talk to me instead?"
"Because you are my son and I have to know my son's husband."
"It's not like it's real!" complained Yeonjun, whose face was a flushed mess by the way.
"Hmm. The papers say otherwise though."
"Mom!"
___
After quite some time, the two moved inside the house and Mrs. Choi was too busy inspecting the interior with Yeonjun standing awkwardly on the side. Everyone would be if their mother was there, face to face with yours and your spouse's portrait, which was taken when you were drunk by the way.
Now, tell Yeonjun if that isn't an awkward situation.
His mother took a step forward and spins around a little, then stops to face him with a playful grin.
That doesn't mean anything good for him.
Sighs.
"Is this a new trend for young people these days? Having their faces plastered on the wall almost as big as the wall for everyone to see?" Mrs. Choi asked, her brow raised and lips curled up in a teasing manner, making Yeonjun groan and wants to disappear.
His own mom? The betrayal.
"Stop getting in touch with Beom and Taehyun, look at what they did to you." He replied, burying his face in his palm.
His mom only sends him a shrug before walking away to look around. Yeonjun watched as she sauntered her way, her navy blue dress swaying lightly from side to side with every step she takes. His mom has always been a head turner even now in her age, she was always graceful and radiates elegance, she even talks softly though she was mad. She just looks like an overall soft person and loves too much.
Yeonjun loves her too, a lot, even though she could be silly and mischievous at times.
Yeah, Yeonjun takes after her more than his dad.
Mrs. Choi was about to leave the living room when she spotted a suit hanging on the rack, she reached for it and grab it, raising it in the air afterwards with her brows furrowed.
"Is this yours? It looks a bit larger tho—"
"Nope. That Soobin's. He tends to remove his suit a lot, says it's more comfortable without it. He even often forgets to bring one whenever he go to work. Tsk, that forgetful giant." Yeonjun said nonchalantly, muttering the last part under his breath.
"That would make him look less presentable."
"I figured. That's why I always nagged him for it before he leaves. Seriously? Is he always gonna make me run after him just to bring him this?" he said, snatching the suit from his mother's hands who just has her lips pursed at her son. She didn't make a comment after that and went to the hallways.
Of course, Yeonjun went after her.
"Jun?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you want me to hire a maid for you? Or a cook? Or someone to do your laundry? A garder, maybe? Don't you get bored here since you're alone? Is Soobin making you have a hard time? Shall I scold him? Or do you want me to talk to your dad and have you come back home? Is there anything else you ne—"
"Mom, I'm fine."
"No, I was jus—"
"No mom, really I'm fine," Yeonjun cut his mother off the second time. The older woman looking at him with concern which made him send her a smile. "We don't need a maid, Soobin and I split the work around the house. He may looks like someone who would boss around people and would pretty much love it if someone will just serve him, trust me he isn't. Err, at least, not entirely.
"In the first two weeks, it was kinda hard to be with him since we always argue and he wouldn't do his part but now he does, not that perfect since he isn't used to it but he's trying. So no mom, Soobin is not giving me a hard time. If you're worried about me doing some dumb shit out of boredom, don't be. I could just pester Soobin about it and you can worry about us both—I mean, he won't let me do it, at first—I mean he wouldn't. Trust me, he wouldn't.
And if you talk to dad, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't listen and think that I was bothering you to talk to him, so I suggest you don't do that. I would say yes for the gardener though, neither of us has a green thumb."
Yeonjun's mother stares at his son with an expression that couldn't be read but she looks convinced anyway. Yeonjun was waiting for her to respond after his improvised little speech. Honestly, he did not expect himself to say all that but oh well. If it was the first day, if he heard just a tiny bit hope of him getting out of that house he would immediately grab it. But now, he's getting used to it. Plus, it'll only last for a year anyway so why bother hiring so many people?
"Are you sure?"
He nodded. "Yeah. I'm sure."
___
It was around 8 pm when Soobin got home. The guy was exhausted to say the least and he was damn starving. Fuck that director for showing up late for their meeting. Made him missed his dinner.
That's right. He missed his dinner because the director showed up late, not because he wanted to eat with Yeonjun. That's the only reason, okay?
The giant bunny dropped his things at the living room before making his way in the dining room, immediately spotting a troubled looking Yeonjun with his food left untouched.
It made Soobin frown.
Yeonjun might have noticed him walking in because he was dragged out of his trance and was surprised to see him there.
"Oh, you just got here?"
Soobin nodded. "Yeah."
"Have you eaten? There are some in the microwave, mom brought food. By the way, did you meet her? She said she might drop by at your office. You probably di—"
"Are you okay?" Soobin cut him off. He couldn't help it, Yeonjun seems off.
Not like he's concerned or anything.
"Huh?" Yeonjun replied dumbly.
"Is there anything wrong?"
The brown haired was quick to shake his head no. "Oh no, there's nothing. I'm just you know, tired."
I'm tired too, but.
Soobin wanted to ask another question but Yeonjun beats him into it before he could even open his mouth.
"I'm gonna head up to my room. I'm done eating." Yeonjun said, bidding Soobin with a small smile.
You didn't even touch your food.
Soobin sighed. He got the untouched plate of food out of the table and placed it in a Tupperware along with the one in the microwave before putting both in the fridge.
Guess he'll just skip dinner and go to his room. That director made him lose his appetite anyway.
On the other hand, a certain someone was lying on his head while staring up at the ceiling. His mom's words keep on echoing inside his head.
**
Mrs. Choi was unloading foods and dishes out of her bag with Yeonjun helping her by storing it in the fridge and in the pantry. They were at the kitchen, since it was probably the last place his mom hasn't invaded yet and now she's there.
"I made you all of these, so make sure to eat it, alright? Don't you dare throw away even just a tiny bit. I'll find out. Oh, and give Soobin too. I know you could be such a pig sometimes."
"Yeah, yeah but like, can you make your stir-fried chicken less spicy next time?"
"Why? Don't you like spicy things?" Mrs. Choi looked at her son confusedly. But it seems like he didn't notice something was off from what he said.
"I do. But Soobin can't handle spicy food that well. Oh, and did you use olive oil? Soobin's allergic to olives, mom."
Now. What are these things she was hearing? His son was giving up his type of food for someone else? Voluntarily?
Is he okay?
"Junnie, do you think Soobin will like this?"
She was tryna see something.
Yeonjun glanced at her and saw her holding a black pack of ramen. "Yep. He prefers the red one though."
Hmm. Okay.
"Does he like banana milk?"
"He drinks it but that giant's practically in love with almond milk."
"Oh, so does he drink coffee?"
"Yes? He likes it black but sweet. 2 spoons of sugar, I think."
"How about wine?"
"Nah, he favors champagne. Why are you asking though, mom?"
Mrs. Choi faced Yeonjun with a serious look, making him stop what he was doing and spare her his full attention. He was puzzled as to why his mother's mood changed suddenly but his question was answered instantly.
"Yeonjun," his mom started. He tilted his head to the side as if asking his mom to continue, which she did, "it's the first time in years I heard you talking about someone else with this kind of knowledge aside from—"
"Don't mention his name, please."
Mrs. Choi pursed her lips. "Aside from him. Yeonjun, what do you think it means?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about mom. I know what you and dad like, I even know what my friends' prefer to eat when they're upset."
"Yes, but do you know how much sugar do we put in our coffee? Or not wearing suits make us more comfortable or not?"
"You don't wear suits that often."
"It doesn't matter, you get it." Mrs. Choi grabbed Yeonjun's hand. "Yeonjunnie, do you like Soobin?"
**
Why would his mom even think about that? He doesn't get it.
It's a simple thing, anyway. Why is she making it such a big deal?
Yeonjun shifts around on his bed and buried his face on his pillow and groans.
I kissed him once but that doesn't mean I like him, right?
Why did I even kiss him, anyway?
Ahhh, this is confusing the fuck outta me, mom it's your fault.
He shifts once again, this time on his side and stares out the window. Good thing, he pulled the curtain open. The sky's pretty with the moon and stars tonight.
Like that night.
Fuck, why is he thinking about that again? He's gonna go crazy.
But, if he comes down to it, there's no point in liking Soobin in that way. They're supposed to stay together for a year and after that, what? What will happen to them afterwards? Will they stay in touch? Be friends? Be back at being strangers and pretends none of it ever happened?
He doesn't want to trust the uncertain. It will hurt.
