"I feel really uncomfortable right now." said Yeonjun. He and Soobin are out in the city and they're currently sitting outside an ice cream parlour since there aren't any vacant seats inside anymore. Soobin declined at first, insisting on paying the shop to provide a table for them but Yeonjun managed to drag him out. Thus, they're situation right now.
"May I remind you that you were the one who made us sit in here when we could've just easily rented the whole place." replied Soobin as he lied back down on his seat, his sunglasses falling down to his nose a little bit.
Even with those shades on, Yeonjun can easily tell he's rolling his eyes.
"I'm not talking about our spot, I'm talking about– about them..." Yeonjun raised his hand and pointed his thumb at his left side.
Soobin glanced at that direction and quickly understands what the other meant. He straightened his position and flicked the elder's forehead with his fingers, causing a startled look on the poor male's face.
"Ow! What the heck?"
"You're not supposed to acknowledge them, dummy."
Yeonjun glared at him. "I know! But still– don't you feel weird or something?"
Soobin shrugged, removed his glasses and went to place them on Yeonjun. The other flinched, thinking that he would flick him again but quickly composed himself when he realized that Soobin was just putting the glasses on him. He frowned at the action.
"And why am I wearing this?"
"Helps in ignoring them. Kinda blocks the sight." Soobin said like it's the most casual thing in the world.
Is he unaware of the effects of his actions? Or is he doing this on purpose?
Oh, right. He's probably just doing this for the show.
Don't forget that, Yeonjun.
Turns out the dinner they had last week wasn't a simple family dinner after all. He should've seen it coming the moment his parents showed up but no, he genuinely thought they were there to eat and have some fucking chitchat.
What a clueless idiot he was.
The true purpose of the dinner?
Yeah well, it was planned to talk about a new business strategy.
And it just so happened that he and Soobin are involved in that said strategy.
Actually no, they are the strategy.
Apparently, the public was so caught up in their "secret romance" that the sales went up the moment they made it official. The media began to get hooked in their entertainment company too, resulting for more publicity and promotions. Definitely benefiting both parties that they decided to use it further into their advantage.
And these two happened to be the baits.
They were tasked to go on a "date" publicly so the people would be more interested to them and get the attention they're supposed to bring.
Now, a single date wouldn't really hurt anyone, right?
That's what they thought too, causing them to agree (not like they have a choice anyway) but they weren't informed that there would be photographers tailing them all throughout this so called "date".
They even have a fucking manual. The poses they should be doing? Fucking listed.
What the fuck kinda date has a script? Their date, that's what.
But that wasn't the only matter they've discussed on the table.
It was a known agreement that both families would have to join companies to support this made up romance they're having and to make it seem even more realistic, they planned to hold a party dedicated for that too. Inviting all the other rich business-people across the country and other celebrities.
They plan to make it grand and all formal. And these two males are supposed to be each family's representative, so they have no choice but to show up.
Talk about being goddamn rich.
The buzzer on the table rang, causing both males to turn their attention towards it. Yeonjun was about to get it and stand up but Soobin beats him to it and told him he'll get it. He didn't complain of course, saves his energy.
He watched as Soobin made his way inside the shop and put his chin on his palm, his elbow on the table. When Soobin was finally out of his sight, he took his time to scan the place. It was rather jolly looking, with lots of colours and huge objects hanging on the roof such as ice cream cone, sprinkles, marshmallow and a cherry. The walls were a mixture of pink and white, making the shop looked like a giant strawberry ice cream with chocolate sauce since there was a fake chocolate dip from above that looked like it was flowing down.
It was pretty cool. No wonder there are loads of people in here.
They should thank him, actually. If it wasn't for him, Soobin would've rented the place and there would be no space left for them anymore.
After a few minutes Soobin came back with a large bowl in hand, containing their ice cream which are flavored mint chocolate, cookies and cream, and salted caramel. Both of them wanted to try different flavors so they just settled with ordering 3 of them.
However, when Soobin placed the bowl on the table and sat down, Yeonjun's feature is suddenly taken over by a frown. The younger male raised his brow at him as if asking what's wrong.
"Where's mine?" Yeonjun asked, his lips unknowingly forming a pout.
"Do you think I could eat all these by myself? Of course we're sharing."
"But why do we have to share?"
"Because it's on the manual, can't you read?"
Yeonjun glanced at him with an unimpressed look though Soobin couldn't really tell because of his shades on. Deciding to just shake it off, he gets his spoon and started eating as well as Soobin who's already enjoying the ice cream.
In the middle of savouring the cold treat, Yeonjun was the first one to break the silence between them and asked about the script or the manual or whatever the fuck you want to call it, the person their parents' paid gave them.
"Do we really have to follow everything listed in here?"
Soobin shrugged. "We could be the little obedient children they want us to be or we could do it our way."
"What do you mean by our way?" The elder questioned. Actually a little intrigued.
Soobin put down the spoon from his mouth and stared at Yeonjun. The brown haired was caught a bit off guard but thank the heavens Soobin gave him his ray bans or else he'd witness how flustered he is. "Rip the papers, throw it away and do whatever we want since it's supposed to be a date anyway— might as well enjoy it instead of turning it into an acting workshop."
Yeonjun was confused but above all, amused, since he never expected Soobin to say that. He won't even be surprised if Soobin said they'll just go back and ditch this so called date but here he was, suggesting that they should do what they want and enjoy.
Is Soobin sick or something? Is there something on the ice cream?
He moved his chair closer to the younger male and reached his arms forward, aiming to squish his face but decided he'll just grab his shoulders instead.
"Who are you and what have you done to Soobin? He wouldn't suggest such thing!" Yeonjun shakes his shoulders.
Soobin swatted his hands away and sent him a threatening glare. "Or I could just push you and break your leg. Tell them you hurt yourself, go back and get this day over with."
The elder gave a sheepish smile and a nervous chuckle, attempting to smack Soobin's arm playfully but retreated it back when he received another glare.
"Yeah, definitely still Soobin."
___
"Hey do you think I look funny with this on?" asked Yeonjun with a huge puppy hat on that's kinda pressing his face, making his cheeks look puffier than usual. The male he questioned just gave him a blank look then proceeds to turn his back against him, acting like the ground is more interesting than his company.
After ripping the script apart and trying to lose their photographer, the two somehow stumbled their way in front of a carnival of some sort. It doesn't look that grand or anything but it was obvious that this part of town is having a type of celebration; a festival according to their guess. And since they don't have anything planned, they just gave it a shot and explore this carnival themselves.
They were looking around when this certain stall caught Yeonjun's attention and so he dragged Soobin with him. The booth displayed cute plushies and hats that Yeonjun couldn't help his inner child, too bad his date for today conceal an inner old man and not a child like him.
"I was asking you!" Yeonjun tugged on his Soobin's sleeves, his eyebrows furrowed and face flushed because of the hat. He actually looks adorable though you will never hear Soobin admit that out loud because no, Yeonjun looks totally ludicrous to him as of the moment.
He's not tempted to boop his nose, okay? Like, no. Never.
"You don't look funny—"
"Right? I knew I look cute—"
"You look ridiculous. Let me finish first." Soobin finished, still sporting that blank look as if what he said wasn't insulting at all.
With a huffed and a roll of his eyes, the shorter male smacked Soobin's arm and turned away, feeling a little annoyed because his date is being a complete bummer. Does this giant even know how to act around his date? Is this how he usually treats his dates? Not even a single compliment?
"Whatever, I'll still buy it because I'm adorable and you're just in denial."
"Sure, Yeonjun, sure."
"Shut up you tasteless giant!"
And with that, Yeonjun made his way inside the stall to pay for the hat, oblivious of the smiling idiot watching him as he went.
Turns out this carnival isn't so bad after all. There are loads of different stalls, stands and booths varying from foods and drinks to clothes and accessories to toys and games to rides and little show performances. This festival is actually fun, much to their surprise which results to an overly excited Yeonjun. He even managed to make Soobin join him to a couple of carnival games.
"All you have to do is pop 5 balloons with these darts." Instructed Yeonjun, handing Soobin his 5 darts before moving over to his spot. The black haired male didn't take it that much of a challenge since it sounds so easy and balloons are bound to pop when they are stab so he began tossing the darts carelessly.
Which resulted into a total flop. And Soobin failing = Yeonjun dying out of laughter.
"I can't believe you failed that!" exclaimed Yeonjun as he laughed his ass off.
Soobin glared at him and scoffed, hiding the fact that he was embarrassed but his burning ears tell otherwise. "I failed on purpose."
"Sure, Soobin, su—"
"Oh look! That game looks interesting!"
*
"So I just have to shoot them with this gun?" Soobin asked the game holder when a muffled laugh interrupted them, catching both of their attention.
"You just had to pop balloons and you failed." Yeonjun snickered, unaware that Soobin heard him and was sending him daggers using his eyes.
"How about instead of those bottles, I shoot you, huh?"
That made the elder shut up immediately.
*
Yeonjun was so close into throwing a whole fit. He was holding his final hoop and if it still wouldn't go in any of that fucking cones he's going to lose it, like how he lost the very same game for 4 rounds now.
Like seriously? Is it that hard to get into that fucking cone? This hoop better does a good job.
Soobin watched Yeonjun get into position with a teasing smug look on the corner. As if mocking the elder which made him wants to win this game even more since that male wouldn't shut up about how he won the game he played.
With a strong sense of determination, Yeonjun threw his last chance and he followed how it went flying over and fell down, slowly, and slowly, and close to the cone. His eyes focusing on the hoop and his lips starting to curl up as he hoped that it would finally land properly only for him to let out a frustrated groan when it just hit the corner of the cone and he failed miserably, again. For the 4th fucking time.
And that was the cue for Soobin to laugh.
*
"No! Let me go! I'm not leaving until I win that!" Yeonjun tried to break free from Soobin's hold as he writhed and trashed about. The taller doing his best to take Yeonjun away from the poor claw machine.
It was getting a little embarrassing, really. With people turning their heads to look their way, he didn't even care if they recognize them or shit. His main priority was to get Yeonjun away from the game before he buys it.
"Yeonjun stop."
"I'm not going to stop until I break that stupid machine!"
"You're not going to break anything."
"I will break your arm if you don't let me go this instant, I'm telling you!"
Yeah. You could say that the events earlier were pretty wild and chaotic. They visited almost every stall and tried a few rides, which was a difficult persuasion by the way, since Soobin refused for a good 15 minutes. He was spurting out reasons about how those rides weren't professionally made, and how much he doesn't trust low quality materials which sound like total bullshits for Yeonjun.
He made Soobin agree by saying that he was just reasoning because he was scared and called him a weakass.
By now, they are just wandering around side by side, with their silly hats on occasionally bumping into each other but they didn't mind (Yeonjun actually forced Soobin to wear the same hat as him). The prizes they won from the games they played were given to little kids they found sulking due to losing the game, instantly brightening up those adorable creatures' day.
However, one key ring with a cute tiny bunny dangling on it was safely tucked inside Yeonjun's back pocket. It was the first prize Soobin won and he gave it to the elder because he wouldn't stop whining about how he didn't win that stupid hoop game. It was something so little but it managed to make him shut up and it made Soobin wonder why he would want to keep it when he could've chosen the larger ones they gave away.
Maybe, he really just likes it.
A moment passed by and someone abruptly bumped into Yeonjun, making him stumble. Thankfully, he caught on to the male beside him so he didn't entirely lose his balance. He didn't pay it that much thought and just ignored the guy but Soobin looks quite pissed and was about to call out the guy but he quickly stopped him, not wanting to cause a fuss.
While the two exchanged their thoughts, a loud cheering could suddenly be heard, much louder than the noise the crowd was making earlier that it caught the two males' attention. They walked over to the huddle of people to see what the commotion is all about and from a distance they could see different floaters displaying variety of designs with people dressed in fun outfits and some mascots doing a dance movement of some sort.
Witnessing such thing made Yeonjun's eyes twinkle in excitement. It's pretty easy to see the joy in his face that you won't be able to help yourself and smile along with him. It was proven, tested by Soobin himself, that Yeonjun's smiles and giggles are much more captivating than that parade.
They could exert more work and effort into making their floaters and costumes pretty but they don't stand a chance against Yeonjun's simple smile. It is effortlessly beautiful and mesmerizing along with his giggles that the marching band playing their instruments magically faded into thin air. Seriously, they're just wasting so much energy; they could've just recorded a video of Yeonjun and play it for everyone to see.
Okay, that thought creep Soobin out. What the fuck? He probably is too tired from walking around all day that his thoughts are getting messy.
"Hey! Soobin? Hello? Earth to Soobin?" Yeonjun waving his hands in front of his face brought him back to reality. "Are you even listening to me?"
Oh, he just made a fool out of himself from daydreaming. It's a good thing people can't read other people's mind or else he'll be dying from embarrassment.
"What?"
Yeonjun frowned. "Wow, you're really not paying attention to me?"
You literally was just in my mind and you said I don't pay attention? Okay, go off.
What the fuck was that Soobin? Shut up.
"Uh.... Do I have to?"
"I'm so close into punching you." Yeonjun deadpanned, bringing his attention back into the parade.
Soobin brushed it off, guessing that it wasn't that important anyway since Yeonjun did not repeat it. His focus went back to the crowd, his vision filled with happy people and vibrant colors but it was quickly replaced with Yeonjun's face with his stupid adorable grin.
"Thank you."
"What?" Soobin dumbly replied. He was too caught off guard that he couldn't process it.
Why would Yeonjun suddenly thank him out if nowhere?
What did he do?
"I said, thank you."
"I heard you the first time," he shot back. "I mean, why? All of a sudden?"
The male just shrugged at him, turned around and slowly walked away from the parade. Of course, Soobin has no choice but to follow him.
"Hey!"
___
It was getting dark as of the moment but the two weren't bothered at all. In fact, they were still mindlessly walking in that part of town where the festival happened. Neither of them striked up a conversation, resulting in a quiet atmosphere between them but it wasn't alarming at all. It was quite comfortable.
Fortunately though, they weren't wearing the hats anymore or else they'll look silly walking around with a huge puppy sitting on their heads.
The wind blew and they felt its cool breeze against their skin, their hair moving along with it. Yeonjun sighed, feeling thankful that he brought a jacket with him and looked up. In there, millions of twinkling stars greeted him. The moon shining brighter than all of them, making him smile out of content.
The dark haired male watched the latter as he does his thing. No thinking he's being weird. No insults. No teasing. He was just simply watching Yeonjun who's now turning his head to look at him.
His smile grew bigger.
Soobin felt his heart stop for a second.
He has to shift his eyes elsewhere or else Yeonjun would cause a problem.
That problem involves his heart.
Yet, he didn't look away.
And Yeonjun is taking a step forward, closer, and closer, and closer.
He's right in front of Soobin now. He's raising his arms and Soobin's a little confused. It was in the rush of the moment. It was impulsive. It was unexpected.
And it was the warmest embrace he had ever received.
His eyes shot wide out of shock but his arms betrayed him and hugged the shorter male back. He was confused and startled but he didn't push Yeonjun away.
He let him stay there, in his arms.
"That was the most fun I've ever had in a while." Yeonjun confessed, his face tucked in Soobin's shoulder. "To be honest, I never thought my first time attending a festival and going in a carnival would be with you, you're a meanie." He let out a low giggle.
Soobin did not respond, he's waiting for Yeonjun to continue talking and it's not like he has something to say. He's currently out of it.
"I always wanted to visit one, you know? But Taehyung hyung was always busy and my friends are often out or in college." Yeonjun paused, closing his eyes and gave a bittersweet smile. "And Hyunjin never took me out in one, he said it wasn't his kind of place and it was too crowded. He prefers places where it's all classy and sophisticated but don't get him wrong, he just wanted the best for me and he really isn't the crowd type but I just really really wanted to try one and today," he pulled away from the hug but not completely, he's still close to Soobin and was still kinda holding onto him. He just moved back a little so that he could look up to the quiet male.
"–you went with me and it was so fun. More fun than I thought it would be, actually. And I love it. So much. Thank you Soobin, I won't ever forget this day." Yeonjun genuinely said, smiling at Soobin's blank face before standing on his tiptoe and planting a kiss on the taller's lips.
That's right. He just pecked Soobin's lips.
It was supposed to be just his cheek okay? But Yeonjun couldn't help himself, Soobin was looking so adorable standing there like a statue that he just had to.
When you see a statue you kiss its lips. At least, that's what he learned from that group's music video, Bloody sweaty tears.
Plus, by the time he realized what he's doing it was too late, he's done it already. So no turning back now.
Oh, and remember Soobin's heart that stopped for a second? Well it's beating so fast right now he feels like he's running out of breath.
Damn. The Yeonjun effect got him good.
