{Ben's p.o.v}

Today's the day. Today is the day that I'm going on a date with April. I still can't believe she said yes to me, but then again who wouldn't say yes to a free ticket to the carnival. I just hope I don't mess this up, I want to make this night perfect for her.

"Oh Ben, there you are!" I heard April's voice from behind me.

I turned to where her voice came from and I was instantly stunned. She looked so beautiful. I don't know if it was the the way the carnival's flashing lights hit her beautiful brown eyes that were encased by her framed glass that enchanted me, or the way that she didn't need a dress to look stunning, that made me practically fall even more head over heels for her. She walked up to me and spoke once more,

"Uh hi, sorry I'm late, I got caught up with something at home...I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long..."

"You look so beautiful!" I blurt out without thinking

April's already red cheeks, turned even darker and she looked at the ground,

"I'm not really wearing anything fancy, just what I always wear...a plain old turtle neck and jeans..." April said quietly, while crossing her arms

"No you don't need all of that... You're beautiful the way you are...a-and I actually like that you don't wear dresses all the time" I reassured her.

She glanced back up at me before returning her gaze back to the ground and she muttered to me a quick thanks followed by a smile.

"Well uh I guess we should go inside..." I say changing the subject

"Oh...yeah you're right" April agreed.

"Wow I still can't believe you and your friends fought off an evil clown demon!" April exclaimed as we walked away from the concession stands,

"I know right, that summer was crazy." I say in reminiscence

"Do you still talk them? Your friends?" She asked

"Well yeah, I talk to them all the time, they're like my best friends and I don't know where I'd be without them..." I reminisce once more.

I look over at her and she's smiling sadly,

"It's good to know you have such great friends.." She says looking at the ground

"hey, let's go on that, I wanna show you something..." I say pointing at the large Ferris wheel

"Okay so what did you want to show me?" April asked me

I looked into her eyes and they just seemed to shimmer in the light, mesmerizing me for a second more,

"oh um, it's a surprise...I wanna wait till we get to the top..." I say to her

"Oh okay!" She says, enthusiastically?

Could she actually be interested in what I have to show her? No, it can't be, can it? No, it doesn't matter, We're almost at the top. One more minute and we'll be at there, but then the Ferris wheel stopped. I looked down and noticed that the lights on the Ferris wheel had went out as well,

"Oh no..." I muttered to myself

"What happened?" April asked concerned

"I think the Ferris wheel broke down." I said trying to keep my cool

"Oh no, we aren't in danger, are we?"

"No, I don't think so, I just think that the ride stopped, see look," I say pointing down to the man in the booth below us, "See he's not panicking, It looks like he's trying to fix the button."

April seemed to be more at ease now, and she sat back,

"How long do you think we'll be up here?" She asked me

"I dunno, but, hopefully it won't be too long...but do you wanna just...I dunno...talk? Since we're up here?"

"Sure." April said with a kind smile on her face, "Was there something you had in mind?"

"No..." I say awkwardly

"Oh..."

An awkward silence loomed over us and I just couldn't help, but stare at April and mask in her beauty. She caught on pretty quickly and nervously asked me with a slight pink tint to her face,

"What?"

"Nothing! It's just that you're so pretty, and I can't believe you're here."

"y-you can't?"

"No not really, I wasn't really sure that you'd come."

"oh, well to be honest, I never expected you to ask me..."

"Well, I'm sorry that I didn't ask you sooner," I said smiling shyly

She smiled back at me, but then her smile faded,

"Why did you ask me out?"

I felt heat rush to my face, and I stuttered out,

"Well, I uh...it's stupid...really..."

"Look, I get it-"

"Wait actually no the reason isn't stupid..."

I look up at her and she's leaning in intently. My face heated up even more than before and I looked anywhere but at her,

"It's just that I've liked you for a while, I guess, and I wanted to show you the whole of Derry and how beautiful it is once you get to know it, kinda like you...I don't know...I guess this night didn't exactly go as I planned..."

I was too afraid  to look her in her eyes, but then she said,

"Oh Ben...I'm pretty sure I've felt the same way longer..."

My head shot up and I finally looked at her,

"Really??" I asked

"mhm." She said biting her lip.

"whoa...I can't believe that-"

"Hey Ben?"

"yea?"

"Can I kiss you?"

My eyes widened and all I could manage to do was nod vigorously. She leaned in, and so did I. When our lips touched I felt fireworks. The kiss literally lasted one second, but in that second I knew...she was the one. I looked into her eyes and I saw her, I really saw her. All the times we'd hung out and just talked, the times she'd been my shoulder to cry on and I for her, they way just thinking about her made my day. The way that she was comfortable with herself and dresses only for herself and no one else. And she was ever so smart, more clever than a fox. She was perfect in every way and I realized, I had been taking her for granted,

"April...I think I'm in love with you...You don't have to say it back, but it's true! I've been blind for a whole year, thinking that I just liked you, but that can't be true! You're Amazing and you make me smile! All those times we had deep talks in the fields and all the times you helped me be more comfortable with who I am, and I've been like...I've been so blind. Until now. April...I see you and I think I'm in love with you!"

April's face, her beautiful face, it lit up, and her smile it was still as warm as it had been the whole time we were stuck up here,

"Oh Ben..." April said putting her delicate hand onto my cheek.

The next thing I knew we were both leaning in again, but this time it was longer than before. Everything just felt right, but then it was cut short by sudden movement. We pulled apart and looked over the edge,

"They fixed the Ferris wheel!" April Exclaimed.

I stared at her with loving eyes,

"Yea.." I said to her.

"Uh Ben?"

"Yea?"

"Can we skip the top, and just get off this ride?"

"Yea! Of course!" I say

As soon as the clerk opened the booth to our cart we both hopped out and started for the entrance from which we came from. Once outside the Carnival, as if on queue April's mom's car pulled up in front of us,

"Well I guess I should get going."

"yea..." I say slightly sad.

April smiled sympathetically and stood on her tip toes to quickly press her lips against mine once more,

"I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"

"Okay," I said awestruck.

She gave me one last smile before she got in her mom's car and they drove away. I stood there watching them drive away. I don't think I'm in love with her...I know it.
