You Need To Eat
The next day;
In Eloise's room was a couch and reclining chair. Jessica took the couch and Sam took the chair to sleep in on their first night. But it was hard for them to close their eyes. Nurses were coming in every hour to check on her. Every little noise she made alarmed Jessica and Sam.
They felt like their weren't cut out for this. They didn't know what to do for their baby. They felt so scared for her and just wanted to take her home.
The doctor was keeping an eye on her lungs to monitor the amount of fluid and see if she needed a procedure to get chest tubes.
Jessica and Sam felt drained. They had no energy and were running off of fear.
When the sun came out Jessica stood next to Eloise for hours just watching her and talking to her.
"This little light of mine... I'm gonna let it shine...." Jessica sings before she starts to choke up.
Sam knew she was about to cry so he came up behind Jessica and held her.
"I just want to hold her." Jessica whimpers
"I do too... but she'll be better before you know it."
"I don't want her to have to get chest tubes."
"Let's just pray that she doesn't." Sam sighs
Sam's phone started to ring. He quickly answered it before it woke up the baby.
"Hello?" Sam says
"Sam, it's mom. What's going on?" She panics
"Eloise is the same today. We are just waiting for the doctor to tell us if she needs the chest tubes or not." He says with sadness
"What can we do for you and Jessica? Is there anything you guys need?" Jane asks
"We may need some more clothes. Dorthy is bringing those by, but they have everything for the baby."
"And we can't come see her?"
"No. We want to be extra careful. The little girl can't risk getting even more sick."
"Alright, give Jessica my best. I love you both."
"Love you too, mom."
"My mom gives her best." Sam says
"Aww, thanks sweet." She says softly
"Why don't you try to rest? I can stand here next to her."
"I can't sleep." Jessica says
"Honey.... you have to sleep."
"Maybe I'll take a shower." She says looking towards the bathroom.
"Okay. Just give your body a break." He says kissing her

Day 4;
Over the last four days Eloise's health stays consistent. She was still the same as she was when she first got to the hospital. But, her wheezing became more and more profound. Jessica was worried that this would make the doctor want to put in chest tubes.
Sam and Jessica waited for rounds to talk to the doctor. They were a nervous wreck. Eloise wasn't getting better, she was staying the same.
"Let's just pray..." Jessica says
"Okay. We can pray." Sam says taking her hands
Sam and Jessica how their heads and say their own prayers before the doctor arrives.
"Good morning!" He says
"Hi, good morning." Sam says fixing his face masks
"So, are we going to be able to avoid the chest tubes?" Jessica says getting straight to the point.
"Unfortunately, no. After careful consideration, we believe that going through with the procedure and getting those chest tubes in as soon and possible will be best for the baby. We believe her health will start to improve, she won't struggle as much to breathe and maybe by next week she will have the oxygen removed and be up to par. That meaning she could go home."
"How soon do you expect her to go home?" Jessica asks
"I think she'll be here for the full two weeks. Depending on how the chest tubes work. But she still have a fever, flushed skin, and wheezing a lot."
"What if instead of the nurses feeding her formula, I could try to breast feed again or pump? Isn't it very beneficial?" Jessica says
"It is... and I hope to have you two feeding her very soon. Maybe a few days after the chest tubes."
"So when is the procedure?" Sam says
"Tomorrow morning, bright and early."
"Thank you." Sam says
After a little bit more conversation with the doctor, he finally leaves. After he closes the door behind him Jessica falls to her knees and cries. She couldn't handle it anymore. She felt so heart broken and scared for her baby.
"Sam i can't." She says
"Yes you can... we have to be strong for her." He pleas
"How can I be strong for her when I can barley be strong for myself?" She sobs
On top of Jessica struggling with postpartum depression and Eloise being sick, she felt like she lost control of her life. All she could do was cry.
"Babe I know we don't want the chest tubes, but maybe it will help her more than we think?" He says trying to calm her down
"They probably think we are idiot teen parents that made her sick!" She says
"But you know that's not true. That's all in your head. How old we are doesn't matter. This is something that is common."
"Really? All babies stop breathing and get sick like this? This is normal?" She yells
"It's not normal but it happens." He says
She shakes her head and covers her face. "I don't know how long I can do this for." She says
"You have to do it." He says sternly
".... she needs you." He continues

Early the next morning;
Eloise was taken in for her procedure to get her chest tubes placed.
Jessica's head was going a thousand miles per second. She felt so overwhelmed and scared for her little girl. Sam stayed strong for Jessica and the baby of course. He just prayed and made sure he was doing everything he possibly could.
Dorthy stayed at the lake house since it was closer to the hospital. She wanted to make sure she was close if Sam and Jessica needed anything. They were four hours away from home and couldn't go very far.
Dorthy woke up extra early to bring Sam and Jessica some comfort food during the procedure. It wasn't expected to be that long, but a little break didn't hurt them.
"Thanks for all of this food. It looks so good." Sam says
"You're welcome. I know the food here can get a little gross."
Sam continued to eat while Jessica sat there staring into space.
"Honey, do you want anything to eat?" Dorthy asks her
"I'm not hungry." She says
"Well, save it for later. You have to take care of yourself too." Dorthy says
Jessica was slowly starting to get annoyed with everybody. They kept trying to tell her what to do and how to feel. She didn't feel like it was fair to her. She was a young mother struggling with depression and her month old baby in the hospital.
"Jessie, maybe you could come back to the lake house with me one night. Just so you can get sleep. Sam you too. You guys can take turns." Dorthy suggests
"I'm not leaving her." Jessica says sternly
"Maybe it would be good for you." Dorthy says
"I know what's good for me and that's being here with Eloise."
"Honey, maybe think about it?" Sam says
"I said no! Was I not clear the first time? I'm not leaving my baby here alone at night. It's cruel. She didn't ask for this. She deserves to have someone with her." Jessica stands up from the table and walks away. Dorthy and Sam look at each other than sigh.
"I should go after her." Sam says
"No no... I know my Jessie. She needs time." Dorthy says
Sam sits back down and sighs. "She was suppose to go to the doctor about her postpartum stuff, but never did."
"She never went to her appointment? Oh no." Dorthy shakes her head
"Well, everything happened over the weekend and she didn't want to make the trip back to Cloquet and be away from the baby."
"I'm worried about her. She isn't eating, she looks so tired and weak. She's been like this since the baby came home, I hope this passes."

Hello everyone! I wrote this chapter on the plane from Ohio to Arizona! I'm now back at school and in my dorm. Classes have already started but now that I'll be around friends and stuff I may not have as much time to write. So please forgive me. I'll try my best! I have a few prewrites that I'm excited to post!
Comment below what you want to see happen next with Sam and Jessica? Should we skip to Sam leaving for college? Hmmmm. Marriage?
