My Best Friend

The next morning Jessica woke up in Sam's arms. She stayed the night at his house because she couldn't bare facing anyone. It was six in the morning and it was time for them to go to school.

Jessica was up all night crying. She told Sam everything and explained all of her feelings. She barely got any sleep in or study time. Now she was more nervous than ever to go take her exam.

"I'm going to fail my classes." She cries

"No you're not. If I got through it, you most certainly can Miss Straight A's."

"Sam it's not like that. My head isn't even on right." She cries

"Honey... you have to shove all that shit with your mom to the side today and worry about it when you're ready." He says

Jessica sniffles and wipes her eyes. "Your parents don't wake up this early, right? I don't want them seeing me like this."

"Seeing you like what?"

"A mess up." She cries

"Stop that. You know what I see?" He says

"What?" She says turning to him with tears filled up in her eyes.

"I see a beautiful, intelligent, and amazing girl sitting in front of me. You're so mature and bright. Literally Jessica Lange.... the most stunning woman ever." He says

Jessica falls into Sam's arms and cries hard. "Thank you." She cries

"I also see a wonderful mother too. Because I know that you're going to be the best mother to our daughter. You're so strong, baby. I couldn't ask for another person to go through this all with. So much that I want to marry you one day. Somewhere nice and quite with our little girl in our hands, watching their parents who love each other more than life itself, commit to each other until the end. A lot of people have come in gone in your life, but I'm here till the end Jessica. You'll always have me. Whatever you decide with your mother. Even if you decide you don't want me anymore, I'll still be there." He says

"I'd never want anyone that isn't you." She cries

"So you'd marry me one day?"

"You want to marry me?" She cries

Never have the ever talked about marriage before. It was a first for them.

"Yes, one thousand percent yes. I wouldn't be the man I am today without you. You've helped me grow, you've taught me how to love, and I'm now in training on being the best dad possible. Even if there wasn't a baby, I'd marry you in an instant."

"I'd marry you too." She giggles

"Now come on... get ready and be the best you can be. You deserve that."

After Jessica's exam, Sam was waiting outside the door for her.

She comes running to him with the biggest smile on her face. "I did it." She smiles

"I know you could." He says kissing her forehead.

"No PDA!" The teacher says to the two of them with a smile

"Sorry, Ma'am." He says taking Jessica's hand and running towards the front door.

"Sam, where are we going?"

"Our midterms are done for the day! We can leave." He says

Jessica giggles as she walks out the front door with Sam and straight to his truck.

Jane watched from a distance as she was leaving her class to see Sam and Jessica happily running off together. It only gave her hope that maybe Jessica made amends with her mother.

Sam and Jessica climbed into the truck and he quickly took off his shirt.

"Sam..."

"Please." He says as she slowly takes off her blouse.

He looks at her in awe. All he saw was pure beauty.

"Kiss me." She says softly

The next day-

Today was Jessica's first ultrasound of the year and her and Sam couldn't wait to see their little baby. It was just the two of them today. Usually there was a whole crowd, but her and Sam needed this time to themselves. They wanted to share some moments alone, but the two of them.

She was twenty three weeks and her baby was growing fast.

The doctor did the usual check up and examination. She finally moved on the ultrasound part.

"I have a surprise for you two... I think I'm going to make this a 3D ultrasound. Maybe we can see how your little one looks like." She doctor says happily

"Oh! Yes!" Jessica smiles

"I can only hope she looks like her mother and not me!" Sam chuckles

"Please, you're pretty cute yourself." She smiles

The doctor starts the 3D ultrasound and their eyes were glued to the screen.

"There she is." The doctor says

Jessica unsurprisingly starts to cry. Sam clenches onto her hand and cries with her.

"She has your nose." Jessica giggles

"I know. That's all I see." He chuckles

All Sam and Jessica could see in the baby was Sam himself. She had all of his wonderful features. It was quite amazing to see and made Sam's heart ache for his daughter.

"When can we get her out?" Sam chuckles

"Sam! She still has a lot of time to bake."

"Yes, she's a little bit underweight right now. She still has some time."

"Is that bad?" Jessica says

"No, we just always tell the mothers to eat more. Make sure you're still taking all of your vitamins."

"I am.. I am."

"I know where we are going after this!" Sam says

"Where?" Jessica smiles

"Dinner to make you fat."

"Uh! Excuse me!" She giggles

"Go enjoy yourself! I'll get these pictures printed out!"

After the appointment Jessica and Sam got a set due date May fourth. It was only January and they couldn't wait anymore. But in reality, they had a lot to do. They didn't even have a solid plan of where they'd be living let alone a crib. As wonderful as today was. Reality was really setting in.

As promised, Sam took Jessica out for a big dinner before he took her back to Ann's.

"Will you stay the night with me?" She asks

"Yes, of course. I'll text my mom." He says

Sam was stilling living at his parents, but most of the nights he was with Jessica at Ann's. Luckily his parents were fine with him being away from home. The expected him to be with Jessica throughout her pregnancy and where proud that he was doing so.

"So... what's on your mind?" He asks

"Baby stuff. I'm trying to budget in my head. Im thinking about diapers, clothes, wipes, binkie's,"

"We will get that all taken care of. I promise. I've set a lot of money aside. I know my moms planning that shower too."

"Yeah, I know. I hate asking though." She says

"Don't be. My mom is on board. Once we get all of the important stuff all we have is weekly diapers, wipes, doctors appointments and formula." He says

"Yeah, but it's still expensive no matter what. And I've decided I want to breastfeed and avoid formula." She says

"Even though you'll be going back to school in the fall?"

"I'm going to try to do it as long as I can. It's really good for the baby."

"Okay, cool." He says

"I'm not against formula and I'm not saying no formula because of money... it's simply that I want that connection and all the benefits that come with breastfeeding!" She smiles

"Okay baby! That sounds wonderful." He says

A few days later:

It was finally the weekend. Midterms were over and Jessica finally didn't have the stress hanging off her shoulders anymore. It was also a good time to talk with Ann. Jessica didn't have anytime to discuss things about their mother with Ann. While Sam was working Ann and Jessica went out to lunch to talk.

"So... she came to you? After she saw me?" Ann asks

"Directly after she saw you." Jessica sighs

"If you what to know how it went. It went well. We had a great conversation. She told me now she loves me no matter what, even if I'm this a girl. She's proud of me. But she apologized and I told her that I do want a good relationship with her... I just need time to forgive her and to talk to you." Ann says sincerely

"Thank you." She says

"How did it go for you?"

"She did a lot of explaining and apologizing. She caught me on a bad day... but for some reason I'm still angry and can't forgive her just yet...."

"But?"

"I miss mom. And I miss dad too."

"I'm sorry, but dad may be a lost cause. But mom isn't. She wants you back in her life."

"I know... I know..." she says

"I'm not pressuring you. You take this all at your own pace. I'm here for you."

"Ann, she wants me and Sam to live with her." Jessica says

Ann immediately felt very hurt. Her and Jessica were so close and grew closer these last few months. The fact that there is a possibility that Jessica could move out made her unbelievably sad. She wanted Jessica to live with her and have the baby at her place, but she knew maybe that wasn't best for Jessica. With Ann working, she didn't know if she could be there as much as Dorthy or Sam's parents.

"Would you?" Ann asks

"I don't know... I mean Sam and I always had plans to get a place of our own so we don't have to depend on anyone... but."

"You can depend on me! I'll be there." Ann says

"I know, Ann. But it should be your turn to take new steps in your life. Like get married to Madison and start a family. You can't have a normal life with your teenage sister, her baby daddy, and her baby living under your roof. I feel like I'd be holding you back."
Jessica sighs. She knew this was hard to hear, but she had to tell Ann where she stood.

"Would you move into moms instead of get your own place?"

"I don't know, Ann. There are so many uncertainties. And it's not just me that gets it make the decision, but Sam too. He'll be going into college... what if he wants to go somewhere far? The baby and I will follow him. You know. I have a family to think about. It's just not about me anymore. It's about the baby and Sam." Jessica says breathlessly

"But if mom never came around, you would not live with me and still have intentions of moving out?" Ann says with frustration

"Ann, I thought you knew that would happen. I can't depend on my older sister. You even said, until I got on my feet."

"I'm sorry... it's just coming sooner than I thought. It's my own selfish reasons that I want you to stay."

"I'm sorry..."

"No, it's okay. I get it. It's just that my baby sister is growing up so fast and I just want you by my side forever."

"Ann" Jessica giggles

"No, really. You're my best friend."
