Mommy & Her Baby

May 10th;

"Good morning to you two!" Dorthy says as Jessica comes down the stairs with sleepy eyes and Sam is holding the screaming new born.

They had been up all night with Eloise. This was the first night that she was up all night long screaming and crying. Nothing could soothe her.

Jessica had tears in her eyes as she sat down. "I don't know what to do. I've done everything. I've tried feeding her, I did skin to skin, Sam held her, we tried to feed her with a bottle, everything. She just won't stop crying." Jessica said breathlessly

"Let me see that little girl." Dorthy says taking her from Sam.

Sam sits down next to Jessica and drinks whatever coffee cup was available.

"Hey that's my coffee." Jane says

"Can I have it?" He asks desperately

"Yeah, sure."

Today was Jane and Sam's big day. They were graduating. The plan for today was for Sam to go drive over to his parents house to take pictures and get ready. He would meet Jessica and her family at the school. Jessica and the baby are going to be driving with Dorthy Jane and George to the school.
After gradation Jane had plans with her friends. So she wasn't "needed" at home. So Sam decided to take Jessica and the baby out for the night to celebrate themselves, as a family.

Dorthy gently rocks little Eloise and holds her close. She immediately stopped crying. "How did you do that?" Jessica asks

"It's nana's touch." Dorthy winks

"My ears aren't ringing anymore." Sam says

"Why don't you two go get some rest. You have a big busy day today. I'll watch the baby for a bit."

"Really?" Sam says

"No, mom. She's our baby. You don't have to babysit her." Jessica reply's. She hated the feeling of people helping her. But she knew she needed this break for the first time in eleven days since Eloise was born.

"Go on. It's okay. I got her. I love spending time with the baby!" Dorthy smiles

"Thanks mom." Jessica says as she stands up

"Thanks Dorthy. If you need us just wake us up." Sam says

"Ellie bean, say "bye mommy and daddy, go sleep!""

Sam and Jessica run up the stairs and go straight to bed. Jessica says as she wraps herself up in her blankets.

"Hey, don't be sad." Sam says

"Why did she stop crying when my mom held her? What am I doing wrong?" Jessica cries

Sam cuddles up next to Jessica and holds her. "You're doing nothing wrong. Sometimes babies need a little change of scenery." He says

"I feel useless."

"But you're not, babe. You have to get this negative energy out of your head. You're a new mom. It's not easy for anyone. But we have been doing great so far. I mean look at the amazing eleven days we've had." He smiles

"I've only taken five showers these last eleven days." She giggles

"But it's worth it, isn't it?" He says

"Yeah... it is. I just can't help these feelings I've been having." She sighs

"I'm here to talk."

"I think right now I just want to sleep."

After a two and a half hour nap, Jessica and Sam woke up to start getting ready. Dorthy let the two shower before Dorthy got ready herself. She was trying to make today go as smoothly as possible for the young parents.

After Jessica was done with her shower Dorthy had to go take Jane to a hair appointment for graduation, so it was just Sam and Jessica.

Jessica put Eloise in her little swing while she did her hair and makeup. She was taking a little nap so it gave Jessica a little bit of free time.

"Wow, my girlfriend is so hot." He says coming into the room.

Jessica's hair was curled, she had her makeup on, and a nice white dress to go along with it.

He comes over and kisses her cheek.

"Thank you, baby." She smiles

"And look at my other pretty girl! All cozy and sweet." He says

"She's being so peaceful and cute right now." Jessica smiles

Sam had to leave for his parents in a few minutes and hated leaving Jessica alone. This would be her first time all alone in the house with the baby. George was with his mother and sister and Sam was leaving.

"Are you sure you're okay here? I can tell my parents just to meet me." He insists

"No! Go be with them." She smiles

"Why don't you come with me?" He asks

"Because my mom is having us take pictures here and Ann is coming with Madison." She sighs

"Did you want me to take her?" He asks

"No... she can stay with me."

"Alright, well I have to go." He says softly

"Okay! Don't forget your tie! It's in the closet." She smiles

"I love you."

"I love you too." She says softly

"Okay, smile guys!" Dorthy says she snaps another picture

"Mom im sick of smiling." George complains

"Oh chip up!" Dorthy smiles as she snaps another picture.

All of the Lange children stood outside the house posing with Jane who was about to graduate. A friend of Dorthy's came over to help so that no one was missing.

This moment of the day was extra uncomfortable. They all knew who was missing, Albert. Dorthy was at the point where she refused to call him anymore. She was so close to divorce so it was up to Albert if he wanted to come today or not.

"You all look beautiful!" Her friend says Oh, Jane, maybe hold the little baby!"

"Here she is." Jessica smiles placing her in Jane's arms

"Smile!"

Then, after a few more pictures Jane gets some individuals. Jessica gets ready to put Eloise in the car. She was being so good and smiley. Jessica just couldn't help but wish that she was with Sam right now taking photos and sharing this moment with him. She had just felt so detached from him.

"Are you guys ready to go?" Jessica says anxiously

Jane hops in the front seat with Dorthy and George sits in the back with Jessica and the baby.

George wasn't too fond of the baby yet, but he had to admit, she was pretty cute. Sometimes Jessica will catch George smiling or waving at the baby.

"I knew you loved her." Jessica smiles

"Yeah, she's actually a cute baby." George laughs

"Well thanks."

When they arrive to the High School Sam walks to the car in his cap and gown to see Jessica and the baby.

Jessica started to cry when she saw Sam in his cap and gown. It made it even more real that today was the day.

"Hey baby." She smiles as she gives him a big hug

"Don't cry.."

"I can't help it. Look how handsome you look."

Jessica takes Eloise out of the car seat and swaddles her. Jessica brought a wrap so that Eloise could sleep on her chest during the ceremony.

"Let me take a picture of you two... mommy and her baby." Sam says

Jessica smiles then wraps Eloise up.

"Are you excited?" Jessica asks

"Yes... very excited."

Jessica's family and Sam's family sat together in the bleachers to watch Jane and Sam.

They had the perfect view from the field. It was a beautiful day. It was sunny and warm which was perfect for a day like this.

"Eloise, you're gonna see your daddy graduate!" Ann says as she's wrapped up to Jessica.

"She is! She's so excited!" Jessica laughs looking down at the sleepy baby.

The ceremony started about thirty minutes after everyone got situated. Now they just had to wait.

———

"Jane Lange!" The announcer says

Though it's not suggested that people do so, everyone stood up and cheered for Jane.

"Yes Janey!!" Jessica says loudly

Jane looks up at her family and waves she he receives her diploma.

"Sam's up next, Jessie!" Dorthy smiles

"I know! I know!" Jessica giggles

——

"Samuel Shepard!"

"GOOO SAM!!! I LOVE YOU!" Jessica yells as the rest of the families clap and cheer him on.

"Look Ellie Bean, daddy's waving to you!" Jessica smiles

After the ceremony Jessica rushes down to see Jane and Sam. She hugs them tightly and cries with them.

"You guys did it!" Dorthy smiles

"We did!" Sam chuckles

"I'm so proud of you." Jessica says to Sam as she kisses him

"Let me see that little girl!" Sam says as Jessica takes her out of her wrap and gives Eloise to Sam.

"She's wide awake now!" Sam chuckles

"That's because she was waiting to see her daddy."

"She's a daddy's girl." Sam chuckles

The family took a few minutes to get in their pictures before everyone was told to leave the field.

After they were done Sam and Jessica were planning on heading out for their little date night with Eloise.

As they were all  walking towards the cars Jessica was stunned to see her father. It had been almost nine months of not seeing or hearing from him. Of course it was Jane's special day and she was happy to see her father at her graduation even though no one was happy with him.

Before Jessica knew it Madison and Ann were walking the other way to avoid Albert.

Jessica starts to panic. Her body starts shaking and she just wanted to run away.

"Sam I don't want to see him." Jessica says loudly

"Jessie? Are you okay?" Dorthy asks

"No, I don't want to see him. Sam we have to go." She says

"Okay, okay. Here hand me the baby and start heading towards the car." He says

Sam could see the affect Albert had on her. He had never seen Jessica so anxious or nervous in her life. It was like she had seen a ghost.

Dorthy wanted to run after Jessica and comfort her, but Albert had already made his way to his wife and children.

Sam's family all walked away, they were not too fond of Albert either.

"Mom, Jessica and I have to go." Sam says putting his back to Albert so he wouldn't see the baby.

"Okay, go ahead." His parents say

They understood Jessica's relationship with Albert. It took everything for Sam's parents to hold back and not share a few words with Albert. But for the sake of today, they just looked the other way.

When Sam made it to the car with Eloise he saw Jessica sobbing.

"Hey, baby. It's okay. We are leaving."

"I'm sorry." She sobs

"No, don't apologize."

"I hate him!"

"I know..."

"I don't want him to see her or me!" She says

"And he won't. Let's go." He says kissing her.
