Chapter 21

Nya's POV

Fortunately I was able to grab a cab upon arriving outside of Prime International Airport. The fare was hefty, but he was able to drive me to the border of Terra Technica until I ran out of money. Paying him with what I had left, I step out, breaking into a speedwalk towards the centre of the city.

Compared to the hot and rainy-ish days in Ninjago, Terra Technica this time of year was pretty stormy. The first hints of rain fell from the sky, and I groaned, speeding up my pace.

I asked several nice-enough looking locals to point me in the direction of the university, to which they all said it was just outside the centre of Terra Technica.

Long distance was never my favourite, but I always put up with it. This was on a whole other level, however.

I'd been to the campus before! Just not on foot the whole way. The rain grew heavier and my coat was now dripping wet, and I had no sense of direction as to where I was- wait.

A brightly lit diner stood proudly just in front of me. My family and I had come here for dinner when we helped Kai move into his dorm last year! That meant the campus wasn't far from here.

And my instincts were correct!

My jog slowed into a walk as I approached the large building, reading the sign plastered on the brick wall.

OFFICIAL ACCOMMODATION  CENTRE: UNIVERSITY OF TERRA TECHNICA WELCOMES YOU!

Soaking wet, I trudged into the accommodation flats, and towards the elevator.

OUT OF ORDER

Groaning and cursing to myself, I drag myself towards the stairs, heaving myself up. My limbs were cold, numb and achey, but I had to push on.

Then only did it occur to me that I had no idea which dorm was Jay's.

Well fuck.

A woman passed by me, wielding a mug of steaming liquid. "Uh, excuse me?" I call out.

She turned around, nearly spilling the beverage as she cradled it in her arms. Red hair was tied into a loose ponytail, with tan skin and a deep orange pyjama set, a book in her other hand, "Can I help you?"

I probably looked like some sort of stalker; my hair covered by the hood of my rain-sodden jacket, my mouth covered by the thick scarf Kai insisted I took last-minute. I nod at her question dumbly, before realising in order to hold a conversation I had to speak, so I let myself form a bunch of words tiredly, hoping she'll understand what I'm talking about.

"Y-Yeah, I'm looking for a guy with um...curly brown hair, blue eyes, freckles, super talkative, uhh..." I gasped for air, as the girl in front of me quickly pieced it together, "Mechanics degree?"

"Yeah! Yes!"

She chuckled, "5th floor, Room 503."

"Oh, thank you, you're a lifesaver!" I sprint up the stairs, regretting it as my legs were this close to giving out. But I had to push on.

Despite being a highschool track star, my stamina was not built for running halfway around Terra Technica in the rain, and up several flights of stairs.

It felt like forever, but I finally reached the fifth floor, panting and heaving. Room 503 is right in front of me, and I regain my breath, whilst also figuring out what to say.

I was regaining my breath for a while.

At long last, I ditch my bag on the floor and knock on the door, leaving a puddle of rainwater in my wake.

The door opens and Jay sticks his head out, looking beyond confused when he sees me.

"Nya? What are- what are you doing here?"

Suddenly all thoughts disappear from my head and I gabble out hurriedly, "I had to see you. I hate how we left things, and you were right, I was afraid of starting a relationship with you. I'm too in my comfort zone which is why I backed out, but I really like you, Jay, a lot, and I want to see where this goes too, but it's okay if you changed your mind, because I will wait-"

Jay shuts me up by a long-awaited kiss which I immediately melt into. It's electric, and wonderful, passionate and everything good wrapped into one. His hands cup my cheeks, pulling me closer into him and my arms grip his shoulders tightly because if not, I'm pretty sure my legs will give out and I'll collapse to the floor in complete exhaustion.

But everything else aside, I'm guessing he reciprocates the feelings too.

"You know, I've never had someone fly out of Ninjago and run through the rain to confess their feelings for me," he murmured whilst pulling away, pressing his forehead against mine.

"Then let me be the first," I whisper, my eyes drooping shut, "right after I catch a nap..."
