Chapter 14

Chapter 14: Grounded

Caspian dropped me off at home, kissing me once more before a very angry mother rapped on his window.

Caspian swore under his breath.

"I'm sorry," he apologised, rolling down the window. "Good afternoon," he greeted my mother, smiling at her.

"It was until you kissed my daughter," she retorted. Her hair was braided but a few loose strands settled on her shoulders. Her hair was the same colour as mine, but the similarities ended there. Her features were sharper than mine: her nose more pointed, her cheek bones higher.

She walked up to my door and yanked it open. With the force she used, I'm surprised the door didn't fly off its hinges. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the house. I knew a 'sorry' wouldn't do any good now, so I kept my lips sealed.

"You bunked school to spend time with a boy," my mother fumed.

I didn't argue. I couldn't tell her about Asher and Principal Hugh. How did she know I had bunked? I mean, Caspian might have been just dropping me home, it was around the time school ended.

"Do you have any idea how worried I was when Chrissie called and asked if you were alright?" She shook with rage.

Chrissie could have called me; she didn't need to alert my mother.

"You're grounded," my mother declared.

I expected this much.

"I'm dropping you off at school tomorrow, and I'm asking the teachers to keep an eye on you," she concluded.

I had not expected that. How was I going to meet James? Caspian would help me think of something, at least I hoped so.

I sluggishly dragged my body to my room. I crashed on the bed and typed a message to Caspian.

'I'm grounded. How are we going to see James?'

The reply came back almost immediately.

'I'm so sorry I got you in trouble.'

He continued to type another message.

'Tell your mom we have to do the English project. If she phones the school we're still covered.'

'She'll make us do it at home,' I texted back.

'Research at the library,' he suggested.

I texted Caspian a thumbs up.

He sent me a kissy face. 'Wish I could give you a real kiss.'

I set my phone down and walked over to my cupboard. This was the first time I was actually taking clothes out for the next day.

I decided to wear my new black jeans, but I couldn't find a cute enough top. I stuck my whole head in my cupboard trying to find something. My eyes fell on blue material that had lived in the back of my cupboard its whole life.

I took the top out; it had a halter neck and it was adorable. The only problem was it was a crop top. Was I feeling brazen enough to expose my tummy? Yes, I was. I took an oversized t-shirt out as well, to hide the crop top from mom. She would freak if she saw it, especially since she had caught me kissing Caspian today.

I heard the sound of a car pulling into the single garage, signaling dad's return home. I tried to listen through the walls, but the voices were too muffled. I really didn't understand what the big deal was. Asher had a girlfriend and he was only two years older than me? I'm not saying Caspian was my boyfriend, but he might be sometime in the foreseeable future. Who was I kidding? He jumped around from girl to girl, and everyone knew he wouldn't hold a steady girlfriend for over a month. But part of me kept wishing that would change.
